Thank you SO much for this discussion on CBE! I’ve been looking for validation on CBE since I started my RN job a few months ago. During orientation, I was instructed to CBE, however I wasn’t told why we document this way. As a new nurse, I didn’t think to ask. So CBE is what I did. Initially, I got a little pushback from my preceptor and was given all the reason NOT to do it, (example: cover your own butt & if it’s not documented, it didn’t happen) which totally makes sense. But having 20+ years of business under my belt, I’m also aware that over documenting can be a liability as well. So much of what your guest Michelle said makes sense. At the end of the day, I feel much better CBE knowing I can refer back to our facilities policy and procedures as back up!
