    The only way I would buy this for $800 is:
    Theatrical and extended version of Lotr
    Extended version of hobbit
    One ring replica
    Blue ray and DVD version of both trilogies
    All bts
    Includes the deleted scenes and the unseen scenes in the actual trilogy that have never been seen before and edited
    Lotr and hobbit poster
    Bilbo's red book
    Map if middle earth

    Fun video, but, this is all moot because the set is $499 now.
    Truthfully, I like this set very much. Yes, the price sucks, and yes it's far from ultimate. But, I rather love the new leather bound movie books and the extra fluff. So, you buy this for $500, then sell the other sets you already own (and I know many of you double and triple dipped), keep whatever is not on this release, and then you truly have it all. And in the end, you only would be paying maybe $250 for the set, which I think is well worth it.

    Why stop there? Why not just throw in digital copies of the theatrical cuts, the complete soundtrack CDs for all 6 films, The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, a flash drive with pdf files for all the books, a Weta replica of the One Ring, an Eye of Sauron lamp, autographs from all the cast and crew members (and I do mean ALL of them), blueprints for building a real Hobbit hole, a Sting letter opener, every theatrical poster for all 6 movies, every Lord of the Rings video game ever made, Steam download codes for all the games, and the original screenplays for every version of all the movies too?

    Ironically the day before this was announced I was thinking why haven't they produced a Middle-Earth box set yet. I looks fantastic however if that price of $800 is true it would have to be a pass. I paid £174.99 for my 'Harry Potter Wizard's Collection' so it should be within that price range. It's not listed on Amazon.co.uk so it will be a pass whatever the price is.
    For those of you who also hate the price keep it up; they lowed the price by $200.00 :P

    if this set included the theatrical editions and/or maby ultraviolet editions i still don't think this is worth it. they should be selling this for 2 to 3 hundred dollars. Most fans have most the content in this. I am a supporter of the one ring.net and we unanimously agree this in NOT worth what they want us to pay especialy when you look at the ultimate harry potter special set whitch had loads of cool extras DVD'S and the other items- jewelary, book etc.

    The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, Beren and Luthien, Tales from the Perilous Realm and the Children of Hurin ( 20$ each, so 120$ in total )
    Lotr extended editions on blu ray and DVD
    lotr limited editions
    The Hobbit extended editions on blu ray and DVD
    The soundtracks of both trilogys
    Try and get the Minas Tirith model on ebay
    Some other Tolkien books and not even close to 720$...

    I actually like your idea of simply purchasing both theatrical and extended trilogies and ended up following that formula instead. Sure, not as nice looking as this set up, but a better price and frankly with better packaging as the sleeves holding these movies will undoubtedly scratch the discs every time you remove and insert them. I purchased both versions of both trilogies on DVD via Amazon on DVD. I spent about forty on the theatrical editions of both LOTR and TH and about one hundred and thirty on the extended versions (the LOTR extended box set was only running for about sixty dollars on Amazon at the time). I would like to upgrade to BD but have heard that the quality of the LOTR extended editions were not very good transfers, but if anyone here would care to confirm or debunk this I am open to discussing it.

    yeah BUT the hobbit films in this set are 6 blurays with only 2d: so it's more disc than you get on 3d extended version: here they have 2 disc for the film in 2d + 4 blurays for the bonus on each film.. on extended version 3d you dont get that many bonus discs : it's 5 discs only and it include 3d discs and 2d discs.. sooo obviously there are more stuff here.. I dont give a Beep about the props but the bonus are all I want

It also sounds a heck of a lot like the contents of my Tolkien Junkie bookshelves, although for that you'd need to include all the books about the movies by Brian Sibley and Daniel Falconer as well as hardcovers of all of Tolkien's work; along with that little statue of Gandalf and Bilbo, the BBC audio on cassette tape and CD, a little deck of cards, and a foot-tall Bilbo action figure.

    Who do they think they are fooling with that $719 price tag? Their target customer seems to be really hardcore collectors. Yours is the definitive collection, but instead of a shelf, I would buy a Sting replica. I don't care about the DVDs so I would replace them with a One Ring replica. Of course, this is hypothetical, I would never spend that much money even if it was the only way I could get them.

    Tell u the truth I wasn't all that interested in this set not just because it is murderously expensive but they didn't really add anything new to this collection part from the awesome package design
    I'm hopin at least for either the 20th or the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings trilogy will get a supreme omega collector's set that has both the theatrical and extended versions of both trilogies and also most importantly a new retrospective documentary with the entire crew artwork for the Hobbit trilogy which was missing from the extended editions of those movies and above all else they got to put in the deleted scenes that Jackson never bothered to put any of the previous home video releases not to put in the movies themselves but as a separate bonus feature and maybe some other extra tidbits that I can't think of

  • @maggot216
    @maggot216 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here's some more insult to injury though. They could have made each one of the trilogies volumes. I would have rathered them exclude the DVDs all together then the production price point would have been lower. Besides, How many of us already own the DVDs of this shit?! especially the Appendices on six DVDs from the sets back in 2014. Personally I'm not fond of up-conversions as they just blur the picture and my own upscale conversion does a bang up job.
    I'm no mathematician either, but two DVD9 = 16 gb A single layer BD is 25. A single BD would have sufficed. Hell Appendices + theatrical would make it a four disk set the way they like.

    • @007DeanBond
      @007DeanBond 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. I didnt want the dvds when they released the blu ray extended versions back in 2011. Its wb being lazy. The special features are the best part of these box sets so i dont want them on a crappy disc

    • @maggot216
      @maggot216 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The transfers themselves probably didn't get any upgrades either (see Blu-Ray.com) Nor did WB/New Line bother listening to what videophiles really had to say about the release. Why the 3D cuts aren't on here and why they were cropped for BD release is beyond me. I'm in the minority when it comes to IMAX feature films like TDK. IMAX ratio is 1.44 slightly wider than old Academy ration (fullscreen 1.33). I would have preferred that they actually released the footage at a 1.66 European standard rather than 1.78 (16/9). The balance between the two if you are going to crop a film back to the stone ages is pivotal for cinematic preservation.
      While most people don't have 3D TVs, having the 3Ds sets is a must in this collection. Then if they had fixed the price tag and included the the theatrical cuts as well then we might be interested. But Riggers are flocking for the sets regardless. If you've never bought the sets at all like me then it's something to considered. But NOT at 600 how Amazon has it listed now. Better off buying the used sets off Amazon and Ebay of the old DVD sets then get your book ends that way. Not to mention the Golum statue, book DVD that came with it.

    General Question:
    Do you try to get blurays that contain a digital copies? My reason is bc like if I sub to Netflix, if they lose a show or go out of business, I know that I will lose access to media that I dont actually own. But with bluray and digital, I own at least one copies and one that I can watch online dependent on that they remain an business online.

This way, you can have a choice between the Theatrical and Extended Cuts to watch in 3D. You also need to include The Art Of The Hobbit Book & Digital Copies of the Theatrical Cuts too. Other than that, your Solution is pretty Ideal for the Middle-Earth Super-Fan.
