  • Here is the tenth episode of Remarkable Engines! This episode will include special appearances from GP40s, heritage units, observation cars, and Led Zeppelin! To celebrate this occasion, I decided to focus on one of the three heritage units of NJT. Interestingly, the locomotive was also repainted back into its original livery, as 4109 was originally from the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Hope you enjoy the tenth episode of Remarkable Engines!
    P.S. The end screens are not working since the episode ends a bit early into the video. Therefore, watch until the end of the video for a lesson in video making/deleted scene.

    Keep in mind that the B&O also had something to do with the acquisition of these units...thats why they were numbered in the C&O/B&O numbering system. 3671-3683 were CNJ...while 3684-3699 were B&O units.

      I am saddened to hear that. That's the third time something bad happened to a locomotive I covered in Remarkable Engines. There are reports of ELS 600 being missing and IANR 678's main trian (the Hawkeye Express) has been cut from IANR's budget.

      As of 5 months ago, 4109 is back in active service; not only its computer problems been fixed, a new bell and horn has been placed on it. The "new" horn is a Leslie RS3L, replacing its previous K5LA unit.

    Has anyone actually seen 4109 running over ex-CNJ routes (Raritan Valley or NJCL)? From the pics/video I’ve seen it’s been relegated to the Hoboken Division, and in my return to riding the RVL in the past 6 months after several years away from it, I’ve seen only ALP45s and PL42’s. Even just in passing I don’t recall seeing any GP40s on the line since the ALP45s first appeared. But it would be cool to see it back on its home rails.

    • @Pensyfan19
      @Pensyfan19  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Surprisingly no. But there was one exception: on July 19, 2021, 4109 was used on the Raritan line for the retirement run of a CNJ engineer.

  • @nathanjiang100
    @nathanjiang100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I should note that 4109, along with 4105, 4110, and 4112, were never rebuilt in 2014. that's why 4109 could re-enter revenue service so spontaneously, and in theory, so can 4105, 4110, and 4112.

    • @georgemurphy2579
      @georgemurphy2579 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4105 is the one pictured in the postcards that were available for sale ... back when postcards were in sinc ... I operated it once and had an incident with this unit. They originally had dual pedestals and steam generators...

    The other line where 4106 can run is Atlantic city line because of the PL42AC being too heavy. Speaking of 4519 that can also run on CNJ Raritan Valley Line as a direct High Bridge to New York Penn Station train

    • @Pensyfan19
      @Pensyfan19  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Makes sense since ALP45s are dual mode. I'm not sure if *4109* ever ran on the Atlantic City branch before. How often are Geeps swapped out on the branch that's isolated from the rest of the NJT system?
