"I like to bring the base up... and bring it back down." "...It needs to just pop out, face the front. ha! shh... back into business. Fade away." I like how his words go in sync with the video xD Troy is just amazing. One of the greatest bass players AND vocalist of all time. Can't wait for the album!
Come on, people, you must be kidding! It's so easy to spot him, he even moves according to the narration - 3:32, 3:42, 3:50, 4:16... It's quite obvious that he was just being funny. And his camouflage is a joke, also! Are you all joking, too? I can't tell, tbh...
Shame we didn't get to hear isolated bass tracking, love Troy's style! Reminds me so much of the bands Fugazi, Neurosis and Melvins. There was another band too, Bill mentions it in one of these press-related videos for Emperor of Sand (it's either a making of vid, or an interview) it was called "Death of the Sun" or something, I looked them up and couldn't believe how Mastodon-y it sounded, late 90s punk band.
Never have I been so excited for a new album, and so impressed by the teased music already in the making of vids and the released single. CTS is one of the best albums of all time, for me.
wow Troy actually made clear about the role of bass guitar! like wow didn't realize why he was doing camouflage until watching this part and that was for explaining the role of bass in Mastodon!
Ultimate success when and underground band, never compromises or waivers and becomes overwhelmingly huge! Welcome to the mainstream Mastodon! At least you did it on your own terms! I'll love the look on some peoples faces when your album debuts at #1 on Billboard!
I don't know if it's necessarily "compromising", but they did change their musical attitude notably from their early days. They talk about this openly in the Crack the Skye making-of videos. They played faster, they screamed louder. Then they started getting tired of it.
Ryan Mckay - I like your assessment Ryan. They certainly did evolve into a more mature Mastodon. I still don't think they fell astray from who or what they are at the core. However someone wants to classify it is their prerogative. The main point is the music is incredible and if anything keeps getting better. Cheers!
They definitely stumbled a bit along the way. Thats part of growth not always knowing what you're doing. But i will always be picking up new mastodon when it comes out.
Don't get me wrong, I love it when the bass backs up the rest of the band perfectly in Mastodon, but I wish Troy would go for a bass riff every now and then, or would get on occasional solo, because there's nothing like hearing a bass go all out and do some really musically interesting stuff for a few seconds or so. Anyway, this album seems like it might be shaping up to be better than both The Hunter and Once More Round the Sun, which is great. Hope my hunch turns out to be correct.
troys visual metaphor about his bass playing is exactly how i feel about bass guitar! i dont play any instruments and always had trouble making out what the bass is really doing behing tge guitars and drums but when i do pick it up its just like seeing someone in camo thru the bushes for a split second! reason why i love reggae so much the bass is everywhere and it gives it so much rythm.. i wish mastodon wouls do a reggaeish track so troy could trully shine!
Troy is my favourite mastodon. I stood at the front of the crowd and accidentally creeped him out because I didn't know where to look and stared him out without meaning to and he pretended he didn't mind
This record sounds like it's going to slay....looking forward to it's release and seeing them in May in Boston! Sick players, every single one of them....
Yeah, after a little disappointed from the former deathcore band who change their way, my expectation of metal album in 2017 cure with this track 0:33, hope the rest OF this album sound best
They are like those bands were every member is important and interesting to hear, those bands are missing these days.
Yes
Hargonaut Great comment. TRUTH!!!!
MicShazam good job on naming bands i never heard of. will check em out. thanks
They are that band!
Mastodon f~€|
Troy going back and fourth behind the trees and bushes had me dying laughing \m/
Me too man, TROY SANDERS is a master and a very funy guy, love his work in Mastodon 💕
I can't wait for Brent's episode. He's my fucking Spirit Uncle.
as a bass player I really enjoy videos like these from bands
" Keeps it simple, resists the temptations to riff out on the bass." Enough said old boy, enough said.
yeah he plays so calmly while everyone is smashing, but he INTENSITIES the music.
He gives it a certain BOOM.
Troy IS Mastodon.
"I like to bring the base up... and bring it back down." "...It needs to just pop out, face the front. ha! shh... back into business. Fade away." I like how his words go in sync with the video xD
Troy is just amazing. One of the greatest bass players AND vocalist of all time. Can't wait for the album!
Troy is a muscular anaconda coiling round mastodon like the vascular protective bass snake he is
If you look closely, you can see Troy hiding in the bushes
really? where?
He's lying. I've watched the video several times now and there was NOTHING hiding in those bushes.
You have to try bro, his camouflage its really good, zoom in.
Yes. Yes, they are. You ruined the joke.
I think Troy is my Spirit animal... all of these guys are so funny and actually enjoyable to watch as well as informative
Will ALWAYS Love Mastodon
Shame we didn't get to hear isolated bass tracking, love Troy's style! Reminds me so much of the bands Fugazi, Neurosis and Melvins.

Burnt by the Sun, I was rocking them before I even heard Mastodon,
Mac that's exactly what I freaking wanted, we got it for Bran and Bill. I wanted to hear Troy!
Never have I been so excited for a new album, and so impressed by the teased music already in the making of vids and the released single. CTS is one of the best albums of all time, for me.
Calling it, this'll be the album of the year
Bass, bass everywhere...
Troy is a great bass player, his work on Crack the Skye is like James Jamerson playing on a metal album.
Oh my god that snippet from the new song at 0:33 blew my face off yes please!
i think is common between the best rock bands to have an amazing sense of humour
That part at 2:31 has me more excited for the album than anything else I've heard so far. Can't wait for 3/31!
That riff at 2:50 is so devastating
they didn't talk anything about his vocal work....
Carlos Freites Probally next episode
Dude, his vocals are straight up POWER!
Troy is my spirit animal!
Dude, i lost my shit when just a taste of the new riffs showed up. GIVE IT TO ME NOW!
Every day without the new album is suffering
wow Troy actually made clear about the role of bass guitar! like wow didn't realize why he was doing camouflage until watching this part and that was for explaining the role of bass in Mastodon!
I love how Commando Troy is fking hilarious
Troy is my spirit animal

null father they grew up
null father - Changed a bit, yes, but still unmistakably Mastodon!
Ryan Mckay - I like your assessment Ryan. They certainly did evolve into a more mature Mastodon. I still don't think they fell astray from who or what they are at the core. One of the most underrated bass players ever. Really fulfills the foundation of Mastodon's sound
Pre-ordered this jewel, and am *totally enjoying* the tracks already available!!! Thanks, guys!
I met Troy in Madrid in 2006, such and humble, down to earth guy. Can´t wait for the new album¡¡¡

Check out their Orion cover
Loving these making of videos boys! Can't wait for the new tunes!
0:33 OH MY GOODNESSSSS
These guys are great. So endearing.
Troy is pretty sick on bass. I love when he lets loose!
I can't fucking wait to receive my pre-order! This album will be fucking awesome! I hope you can come to Mexico again for a show!
Troy is literally my favourite person ever to have existed
Yeah, if you could just release the album now, that'd be great!
troys visual metaphor about his bass playing is exactly how i feel about bass guitar! i dont play any instruments and always had trouble making out what the bass is really doing behing tge guitars and drums but when i do pick it up its just like seeing someone in camo thru the bushes for a split second! reason why i love reggae so much the bass is everywhere and it gives it so much rythm.. i wish mastodon wouls do a reggaeish track so troy could trully shine!
the part at 2:30 gave me goosebumps
2:29 sounds so awsome!!!! Cant wait for this album
Hoping this will be packaged as a DVD with the CD version.
Yes! LMFAO Love you guys. Can't wait for Emperor
I love these guys
Damn that was actually hilarious. And holy shit I haven't been this hyped for a new album in a long long time.

Hinds is a comedy genius the mad bastard. what a band
🎶
save the best for last 🤘🏽
this is fucking great, their view of everyone´s role in the band
It always surprises me how low-key and serious Bill Kelliher is. Not the personality I expect from looking at him.
he is a solid lovely guy
Super nice dude, and fairly reserved.
2:29 and 2:50 🔥
i was cry laughing to this!!!!! u guys took it to the next level with that mastohumor!
I love this guy
God damn Troy is hilarious
Troy is like a muraena - he creeps in his cave but sometimes leaps out to catch prey or to throw a sick leading bassline
0:58 Troy on this way to fight moby dick with his bare fucking hands.
LOVE TROY!
God damnit, Brent is so fucking hilarious.
Wow. the music starts from 2:31 sounds incredible :O
Brent is the Jack Nicholson of rock/metal. Dude gives 0 fucks anymore
love it
Troy!!! In the camo, that’s amazing! He is so funny.
Haha, Troy! Good thinking on that bass playing and the production aspect.
After nearly 10 years being a fan, I'm still not used to Troy's hair
Troy is turning into Rob Zombie
Hahaha playing bass is like being inside a National Geographic documentary, immerse in Nature.
This video is hilarious!
Laughing way too hard watching this one. Damn man, damn.
THAT. FUCKING. RIFF.
Wow i fucking love mastodon
Bring on the Brent episode!
I'm eating gummy bears while watching this lol! \m/ Good show, jolly good show!
HUGE! 2:28
The Second Coming Of Crack The Skye
0:34 hell ya!
Bet Troy is paddling Lake Lanier. These guys are my hometown heroes!
Brent hinds episode next???
haha i am dying with these guys :D
Mai ear holes are ready.
Their music feels like the backing track of a huge action movie… opus Maximus
I love Brent's astronaut “monologue” xd
0:35 holy fuck that's heavy!!
I'll be listening to the riff at 2:29 until the album drops
Yeah, after a little disappointed from the former deathcore band who change their way, my expectation of metal album in 2017 cure with this track 0:33, hope the rest OF this album sound best
wew
One way you can tell that a band is good by how goofy they are lol
troy is king
bass ninja
What was with the random shots of bushes?
2:30 what is the song? That sounded amazing!
one day I'll have troy's beard
"Dirty B. Hinds to Command Center!!"
Ayyy ealy as fuck
Mastodon is the greatest heavy metal band of all time
Why's that?
I've been thinking, does Troy have any tattoos? It's weird the other three have a lot of tattoos and he doesn't.
