I dreamt that I dwelt in marble halls,
With vassels and serfs at my side,
And of all who assembled within those walls,
That I was the hope and the pride,
I had riches too great to count, could boast
    Of a high ancestral name,
But I also dreamt which pleased me most,
That you loved me still the same,
    That you loved me,
You loved me still the same, That you loved me,
You loved me still the same.
I dreamt that suitors sought my hand,
    That knights upon bended knee,
And with words no maiden's heart could withstand,
They pledged their faith to me,
And I dreamt that one of that noble host,
Came forth my hand to claim, But I also dreamt which charmed me most,
That you loved me still the same,
    That you loved me,
You loved me still the same, That you loved me,
You loved me still the same.

How wonderful to see and hear! I can't listen to this aria without crying, though. Both because it is so beautiful and the story so sad....she had been kidnapped by gypsies when she was a little girl, and now years later she in encamped just below the very castle she had lived in as "the hope and the pride". She somehow preserved a dim memory of those days and had a dream about "marble halls" which she recounts in this song. P.S....just for fun try comparing the middle of this aria beginning with the words "I had riches....." with the middle of the old song "Yes, We Have No Bananas".

Epsteinisms #: And the famous answer to the question posed by ‘Yes, we have no bananas’ is of course: ‘Are the monkeys starving?’

Is this a film of the 1951 production, conducted by Beecham in London?
