Konami's sound engineers and composers transcended the hardware. This soundtrack was masterful.

I agree. Konami was kickass at doing a lot of great game soundtracks. Even though this game was wicked hard, I could get down and funky to that first stage music. Konami has done great music for their other games (Contra, Castlevania, etc.)

I would love to speak with any of the people who contributed to making that last track. I’m sure most if not all of them are retired now, probably with wife and kids, or at least I’d like to hope to think that’s the case. Because even though I may think of myself as a hopeless romantic, it still means I’m at least a romantic, whether it’s hopeless or not. I’m sure the people you who made the last track also are romantics to be able to make such an incredibly beautiful romantic song. I hope they finally found the women of their dreams. Maybe someday I will too, and you as well, if you haven’t already, for anyone that may be reading this. She’s out there somewhere…it’s just a matter of finding her! Just go find her and make it happen. So I ask…”How far will you go for the girl of your dreams?”

One of my favorite games because of the music, and the story was pretty decent. A very hard game, but when you get rewarded with one of the most touching endings on the NES it's all worth it. The only thing I didn't like was the driving stages, they just went on and on and I always ended up hurting my thumbs.

I like so much the music from the first Car Drivin' stage, a challenging stage that I can only finish if keep hearing it when playing.
My other favorite is the Boss Theme, one of the top 10 NES boss melodies in my opinion. It sounds like you will fight a "formidable" opponent, as if you are going to the fight of your life, it's simply A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!
Stage Clear and Game Over musics are very motivational.
Generally, all the tracks are awesome.
The only track I never heard in the game is the ending. Some years ago I almost beat the game but was defeated before entering Gordo's mansion. Some day I will do it.

It was a very special sync up between the development that was going on at the time and the creative types that were in the area. It's pretty legendary, actually. That's why so many of their soundtracks just hit in that special way.

Has anybody ever heard actual creole/zydeco/cajun music that sounds like this? This soundtrack is clearly inspired by something but after quickly browsing some cajun music on the internet I'm hearing similar sounds but nothing quite like this. I absolutely love when NES composers created music that sounds fantastic on an 8-bit chip but was clearly intended for "real" instruments and inspired by specific genres.

It sounds kinda stupid but if you ever play Bayou Billy again -figure out my second tip and- try them.

+figment1988 ok nice!, the music of Nintendo (8 bit) is wonderful because so many games like Contra, Mega man 2, Castlevania 3, Ninja gaiden, etc, they took the base the music style of the 80's in the games, you know new wave, sinthpop, pop rock, check Yazoo "Situation" from 1982, the sound of the sintetizer of "Unbreakable determination" by Ninja Gaiden is similar to Situation

    • @sandy1980ification
      @sandy1980ification 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+figment1988 check Bloody tears from Castlevania II and Acuarius from Castlevania III too, the intro of those songs is similar to the intro of the song Fooling yourself 1977 by Styx

Ultra awesome comparisons!!! I checked out Fooling Yourself and Situation, and yes, they are very similar to the NES melodies you said. About the opening of Bayou Billy I discovered it some years ago, but it is nice that another person has good ears to notice it too.
And 80's music is the best for me too. 👌

I remember playing this game when I was kid. When I first say "Damn" and got slapped by my sis. Was I think 6 maybe at that time. A decade later I'm working my (or maybe when I was 12 or 13) finally making it to the final boss and getting my ass handed to me by the twins. Realizing I could never beat the damn game without the bullet proof vest, the gun and the whip. Yeah those were the days.

    Best NES soundtrack. ❤❤

For a long time, the main reason I would go to this soundtrack was for that great Stage 1 music, but now, after listening to the whole thing, I think that ending theme trumps it. That really feels like a movie's ending theme. And works perfectly with the reuniting of Billy and Annabelle.

Artican All the tracks are excellently composed, and the ending theme does stand out.

Love this game. I can finally admit to everyone that I always thought the last track was one of the most romantic themes I've ever heard in a game. At least a hundred of these page views came from me. Beat the game many times without any cheats just so that I can hear the ending and kiss my girl. Nothing would stop me: killing gators for meat, dynamiting cars just because they were there, beating up thugs in the French Quarter with whips... I guess I'm a hopeless romantic. And a bit strange! :D

I would love to speak with any of the people who contributed to making that last track. I’m sure most if not all of them are retired now, probably with wife and kids, or at least I’d like to hope to think that’s the case. Because like you said you are as well, I’m sure they also are romantics to make such a beautiful romantic song. I hope they finally found the women of their dreams. Maybe someday I will too, and you as well, if you haven’t already. And anyone else reading this. She’s out there somewhere…it’s just a matter of finding her! So I ask…”How far will you go for the girl of your dreams?”

I remember the day (THE ONLY DAY!) when I finished this entire game... I was on the edge of a nervous colapse! It worth rescuing the girl and promised never playing the F* game again! XD XD XD Though, the soundtrack is cool! :D
