Thank you so much for this review! I just bought this tripod, and this video was super helpful. I learned a lot about the different parts of the tripod, and how to use it! Thank you!
Thank you for a very helpful review. Real happy with this tripod, an excellent value. You and Alex Jerome solved my problem with the knob issue you mention at 6:20. I have the carbon fiber version and it has the "half ball" at the base to perform leveling. I don't like it if I'm planning though, if misaligned can cause your panning to not be straight.
Two words of note, you can hang a sandbag, or a heavy backpack from the central column hook to better stabilize the tripod (so long as the weight isn't swinging around and adding to the instability). And you can get an aftermarket "puck" that will allow you to level the head without having to adjust the legs. It adds a few ounces and about 2 inches to the folded height, so it might be a tighter fit in the tripod bag. Finally, if you have an unbalanced (front heavy) rig, then you might be well served getting a longer Manfrotto-type tripod plate which allows you to adjust the center of gravity better. For the price though, this is a tough one to beat.
I have a question. What tripod would you recommend for a vortex diamondback spotting scope? I have never used a spotting scope before and I am not sure which tripod would be best. I would be using it at small local ponds, as well as on the Atlantic coast.
Thanks for the review. Been looking for a sturdy tripod for counting waders through a scope for a while now. How sturdy are the latches that lock the legs and the bronze ring? Just wondering as these features have failed me in the past with previous tripods from other brands. Cheers.
Latches are very sturdy, as is the ring. After reading your comment I tried pulling on them when locked and they didn't budge. I haven't had a problem with them before either.
Thanks for the timely review, I want a new tripod and have zero knowledge and have done zero research on the topic. This seems like a good place to start. Any other suggestions? Does using it with a scope change your opinion at all?
I would definitely recommend the Cayer one! My friend uses it with a scope and seems to really like it. I switch between that tripod and the larger one I use, which is the "Andoer Video Tripod Aluminum Alloy 67 Inch" . It's really more of a video camera tripod and is considerably more heavy than the Cayer, and pricier, but more stable, and has some of the other features I mention in the video. There is also an Andoer photography model and I would NOT recommend that one. The legs are set up very oddly and it's just not very user friendly. Here is the link to the Andoer Tripod I also use if you wanna check that one out. I'm hoping to do a review on that one to sometime soon. amzn.to/3uRLTTk - Our associates link so we do earn from qualifying purchases
@@BadgerlandBirding Thanks for the response, I think the lighter one is definitely the way to go for me. The one I have is the cheapest one from best buy and I think I'm overselling it if I say it's hot garbage. The short table top one that came with my scope has a handle that locks/unlocks the tilt and pan controls, making it pretty easy to use. Are there any full size tripods like that?
with the knob issue u mention at 6:20... you dont actually to "pre load" the screw... If you pull on the knob, its will actually pull out and spin rachet style and you can crank it as much as you need. Most photography components work this way, life saver :]

Thanks!

Thanks for the additional tips!
Missing one explanation how dismantle the hub and assembly.

Would this be OK for a spotting scope (e.g. Swarovski 60X)?
How heavy is it?
@@BadgerlandBirding 3.1 lbs.
@@elist5082 yup! Max weight it can hold is 13.2 lbs.
OK; thanks!
