Brilliant! I love how these simple tricks can transform basic footage into professional looking cinematography, thank you very much for this huge help!
I only recently started shooting video and have been plagued by jerky panning shots even after upgrading to a Leofoto BV-20K (Knob Clamp) Pro Fluid Video Head. While this head is much smoother than the SmallRig Lightweight Fluid Video Head, it still wasn't smooth enough. But then I tried the rubber band trick, and that made a HUGE difference -- much, much smoother pans! I'm also learning the importance of drag adjustment for smoothing pan shots.
@@CamberFilmSchool it wasn't the settings, it was my inconstant movement when turning the head for panning shots. The rubber band trick, did the trick :)
I was using autofocus. Either do that, or have to make sure to stay the same distance from your subject, or use a deep depth of field so more is in focus.
There’s not really any one thing that makes a “filmic” look. It’s really just a mixture of framing, composition, depth of field, and how you work it all together. Just takes practice.
This is great stuff. I feel so stupid for not thinking of a single one of these myself. I actually went to a school where they did teach (somewhat) proper techniques, but of course they had the proper gear for it. Afterwards I thought stuff like this couldn't really be done without the right gear. Oh boy was I wrong, that footage looks awesome. I'll be sure to use these tricks in my next project :)
Yeah, that can definitely be tricking. Just takes practice and can't start moving too quickly. Or else get further away from your starting point and start your movement early so that you won't get the swing at the point where you want your clip to start.
Hey, Jarrett. I have a video with my beginner camera suggestions you can check out here: th-cam.com/video/Uvpu2rE7RM4/w-d-xo.html I prefer Sony right now, but either camera in the video will work fine. 👍🏼
Great tips! I definitely learned a lot! The rubber band was the most impressive one. I noticed it can be used to make the rolling chair movement smoother too :)
Yes, but it also depends on the camera. Some cameras may actually look worse because the stabilization will be fighting against you trying to stabilize it. Try it both ways and see which works better for you.
Just got my first Mirrorless and the handheld footage is so difficult to keep steady. A proper gimbal is $300 plus, but I don’t think I’ll need it now. Thank you!
I use an image stabilizing lens with an image stabilizing body -- Canon EF lenses with a Canon EOS R body -- and then use Warp Stabilizer in post-production with Adobe Premiere Pro. I own a gimbal, but they take time to set up.
These tips are super valuable, but my favorite aspect of this video is the beautiful family dynamic (daughter anchoring tripod with foot 🥹) God bless you and your family!
Im so happy to have found this. Thank you! I’ve been wrestling my gimbal and not loving it. Undoubtedly, it’s my fault as I’m very new to all of this. In the meantime, these tips are going to simplify my first day of my first film. Subbed.
I’ve heard some of these before and some of the ones you mentioned are new to me. They’re all great. The problem is… I never remember to use them when the opportunity arises lol
Hi. Thanks for the tricks, Could you please tell me the brand and model of the Tripod that you are using? Best regards and once again thank you! I'm writing from Portugal :)
than ks for these ingenius trics! I only knew the rubber band and dolly before. This video opens a completely new perspective to my shots. Thank you so much!!! 😀😀😁📽🎬 yammy coockies 😋🧸🍪
I hear ya. I've found it super useful to be able to mimic the same types of moves with minimal gear because I'll often find myself somewhere without the gear I'd want and try to still make it work.
Which of these tricks was new to you? 🎥 Got any others that you like to use?
For me, #2, #3, #4, #6 and #7 were new. Thanks!!
Awesome to hear, Jaime 👍🏽 I'm glad it was helpful!
all, because i am just a beginner XD
Great to hear you learned something new! 👍🏾
Tripod with 2 legs on should and the third one on belly. Thank you, very nice video...
Ingenious. Love the part when you hit your wife in the head with the tripod. Hilarious!
🤣Thanks, Jesse! She was supposed to just make it look like it hit her, but I guess she takes her acting seriously!
Get a hit 😂 🇯🇲
😉
Spousal abuse is not a laughing matter. Let's keep it classy gentleman....
You’re right. She needs to stop abusing me!
I knew my muscles were too big for smooth camera pans. Everyone said I was crazy.
😂 Nice! 💪
This video is genius! The amount of value you packed into 5 minutes is very impressive.
Thanks, glad you liked it! 👍
That face bump caught me off guard!!! 🤣🤣🤣
😂 her too!

Great video. One of the most useful ones I have seen for simple creative uses for a tool that folks will already own!
Thanks! 👍
Awesome tricks..thx for sharing..I have a gimbal for my iphone but now I can just use my Canon M50
Drost Video, definitely! You’ll get a lot better quality video that way too.
Wow! I love the blue color in your video! So cinematic!
Thanks so much! I've been experimenting with different colors and that is my favorite so far.
Best tripod tips I have ever seen. Please do more tips ! Fantastic job !
Thanks! I made one on monopods too. Any other specific gear you want tips on?
Thank you!
Is there any way I can do the trick at 2:52 quicker?
I'm not sure what you mean by doing it quicker?
Thank you!
Greetings from Brazil!🙏
Oi! 👍 Obrigado.
Amazing idea the video has more life than gimbals thanks
Thanks! 👍

What are your video settings?
@@CamberFilmSchool it wasn't the settings, it was my inconstant movement when turning the head for panning shots. The rubber band trick, did the trick :)
Nice! 👌
OMG! Finally found the channel we were looking for. Will use these tricks in our videos. Thanks man!
That's so awesome to hear, Ansh & Mandy 👍🏼Glad it was helpful!
That rubber band trick is so smooth! I cant wait to implement these tips while filming, thank you so much for sharing!
No problem, Elara Inspires 👍🏽 So glad to hear it was helpful!
How you control a focus on steadycam 4:43?
I was using autofocus. Either do that, or have to make sure to stay the same distance from your subject, or use a deep depth of field so more is in focus.
Exquisitely conceived and expertly executed!
Thanks!
Great tips, thanks. How did you get that 'filmic' look on your finished video?
There’s not really any one thing that makes a “filmic” look. It’s really just a mixture of framing, composition, depth of field, and how you work it all together. Just takes practice.
Best advice combined in a one video - perfect!!!
Thx!
I came back to re-watch this. Brilliant, Bro! Many Thanks. My Best Wishes to you and your family. 🙏🏾
Thanks so much!

Layman terms are not taught in schools lol
Great video. Still struggling to get it to swing less in the glide cam mode..

That shoulder rig trick is amazing... and using one tripod to do all these things reduces the amount of accessories one has to bring along.
For sure! A little creativity goes a long way. 😉

Super useful video! The steady cam trick was new to me. I'll probably use that one for sure!
Thanks! There are a TON of other things you can do with tripods, but these are just the most common ones I use. Maybe I'll make a follow on.
Thanks so much for this video. Please I have a question. What method would you recommend for a LIVE church program. Isaac from Liberia.
I would probably just set it on the tripod and leave it if it’s just going to be someone on a podium preaching.
Great tips! I definitely learned a lot! The rubber band was the most impressive one. I noticed it can be used to make the rolling chair movement smoother too :)
Good idea!
That was excellent! Concise, direct and informative...love it. Well done!

@@CamberFilmSchool you succeeded!
Thanks bro you just raised my production value to a whole new level😎
Awesome. 👍 Glad to help!
do u leave the camera stabilization on when putting it on your shoulder
Yes, but it also depends on the camera. Some cameras may actually look worse because the stabilization will be fighting against you trying to stabilize it. Try it both ways and see which works better for you.
Excellent video. Quality all around. Good information and without all the useless fluff
Thanks! 👍
ALL! The harness trick appeals in particular. I can see lots of fun experimentation in my future. Good thing the weather is turning.
Debbra Lupien, for sure! There are sooo many things you can do with a tripod to get creative shots. Let me know how it works out.
Nice video, if we have action camera with fixed focus, any idea or trick could max the use?
The same types of tricks would work.
