Just as thick as Louisiana black strap molasses on a stake of Johnny cakes just as high as an elephants knee. On a riverboat floating down da Mississippi, just finish da damn story Blanche!!! Literally dyeing of laughter!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
*Deborah Kerns* Brooklyn was not socially acceptable, especially back then, so it is Blanche who is the one being snooty, since she's sarcastically putting down Brooklynites and calling them classless.
@@musicaltheatergeek79 ~ We'll have to agree to disagree on this. I've always found Dorothy's character to have a "high & mighty" attitude. Dorothy was always putting down the other characters if she disagreed with them on something...
You like that line, too? When the other girls return Dorothy's criticisms with a snide remark of their own, I applaud them. The "socially acceptable as Brooklyn" line gets me smiling all the time.
It just occurs to me how Southern I am. If I met someone named Catfish (and I have) or Tarnation I wouldn't bat an eye. I might roll one but certainly not bat one. This was one of the best written shows ever❤
Rose: too silly. Blanche: too poetic (southern). Sophia: too unrealistic. Dorothy can't stand anyone's stories, basically 😂. She's the one that tells them the least and the best.
I always felt so bad for Dorothy having to listen to the other 3 girls's stories: Rose's dumb St Olaf stories, Blanche's southern drawn out stories, and Sophia's exaggerated Sicily stories.
dorothy: blanche, I am in no moode to hear about the endless parade of sexual encounters you have experienced up and down the florida coastline with nothing but this blanket between your sweaty bodies and the cold wet sand! Blanche: This blanket is what I brought my son skippy home from the hospital in when he was born! Dorothy: You're lying Blanche: Damn you're good!
You like that line, too? When the other girls return Dorothy's criticisms with a snide remark of their own, I applaud them. The "socially acceptable as Brooklyn" line gets me smiling all the time.
This scene is included in the DVD's and unedited seasons of the Golden Girls that I purchased here on TH-cam. Hallmark, TV Land, and Country Music Television has edited this scene out for some reason. I remember when the Golden Girls were on Lifetime they kept this scene in. I laugh so hard every time I see this scene.
...all life long, in return for your self-respect, dignity, values and mostly the deeplt satisfying allegations against the bastard fermenting inside of you as a wife, mother and a self-determined woman?! I mean, I too would love myself a brand new Cadillac, I just don't think the man could afford enough all marriage long. 🤔 But have a good trip while your husband spends his long afternoons "licking the nectar right out of the honeycomb!" 😁
There's always funny bits in Golden Girls, but this is one of the episodes I was like, meh... the paramedics didn't check Trudy's vitals? Or did the Girls just go "oh well, Trudy's dead, let's go home" and leave without trying to check/revive her/call 911?? Did Trudy find a doctor willing to risk his medical license to officially declare her dead for a joke? I guess it makes the episode more amusing than EMT's going "Well, her heart beat and blood pressure look fine and she's faking being unconcious, so..." Insurance company: "That'll be $1000... great prank lol"
The suspension of disbelief is difficult for me on this episode, too. I agree with the opinion that the plot is poor. The fantastically funny lines are the only saving grace for me.
You like that line, too? When the other girls return Dorothy's criticisms with a snide remark of their own, I applaud them. The "socially acceptable as Brooklyn" line gets me smiling all the time.
1:38 They flubbed their lines. Rue meant "stack of Johnny cakes" but she said "steak".. Bea starts to say "...tell the damn story..." but she stops and says "tell the... finish the damn story!"
"... basically, they were trash." And that was when Blanche's dad was still alive. Although he had remarried to the young Margaret Spencer a few years prior, so Blanche probably did not hold her punches here.

The way Blanche says Brooklyn cracks me up every time!
THE DELIVERY OF THESE LINES ARE NOTHING LESS THAN SUPERB.
Incredible actresses!
This is literally one of my fave scenes! The way Dorothy always loses her temper with Blanche and her stories!
Just like her and Rose
Dorothy hates flowery stories 😁🤭
Dorothy usually loses her temper with Rose's stories. The moment St. Olaf is said, the girls already know what's going to happen.
Pardon me, Dorothy. We can't all come from places as socially acceptable as Brooklyn.
And Dorothy's look to Blanche after that was like, "Geez. Jealous much?"
Dorothy was always a bit snooty...

*Deborah Kerns* yes, Dorothy could be haughty, but not because she was from Brooklyn. It was more to do with being Northener/Yankee.
“-On a river boat floating down the Mississippi delta!!!!” 😂
_...basically they were trash!_ Wow, honest words for a true-hearted Southern Belle!
I Miss The Golden Girls...They were hilarious lol
"..on a riverboat floating down the Mississippi Delta" 😂😂
All of them are brilliant but Bea Arthur says more with her facial expressions than most actors do with pages of dialogue.
These ladies were BRILLIANT !
FINISH THE DAMN STORY, BLANCHE!.

Rose: too silly.
Blanche: too poetic (southern).
Sophia: too unrealistic.

I beg to differ. They all had good stories. Sofia told stories about the Italian Mafia, so...
