    Safety Not Guaranteed Official Trailer #1 - Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass Movie (2012) HD

      See Hanz that's the kinda stuff I'm talking about......movies like this may not be chart topper's but there's something about them that make them cool entirely on there own.lll.....you know in this day in age I miss the "good ole' days)....I mean things are so different, and not necessarily for the better...like ...I didn't get my first cell phone till I was 21....now'a'days teacher's can't get the students to stay off 'em during class....man things have changed... anyways 2012 was a decent year....I hope things get better...

      @@davidschmidt270 I always wonder how much "factuality" there is in these judgments about "the good old days". I used to be quite ironic and sarcastic about these "kind of people", when I was a teenager. And I sort of been able to keep that perspective for quite some time, but nowadays I do have an almost constant feeling that "things got worse", and I wonder if it´s just not me falling into these category of nostalgic people. I mean, I know there is this factor, because everyone can always look back to some nice events from the past, and even remind them as set apart from one´s actual overall circumstance (like, someone may remember a club they used to go, and think about as the "best times", but at the same time disregard how they hated their family, their home, their job, certain people in school, etc.). But, despite all this nostalgia, and emotional attachment to certain subcultures, I just can´t seem to comply with the whole "surveillance" thing that technology brought, and the whole "smartphone" culture thing. This is something separate from any nostalgic factor, and more about a more actual "better or worse" issue. I mean, "privacy" has always been a core issue in societies, but now with cameras EVERYWHERE, plus the capacity for instant worldwide broadcasting via the internet, we simply have no real privacy anymore (I mean, we can have, but it´s not a solid guarantee). Of course I understand it´s all about preventing and solving crimes and "anti-social behavior", but to some extent, a lot of criminals and deranged people don´t really care about being caught on video and broadcasted to the world, they actually like the idea (they just don't like going to jail). But, anyway, like I said, maybe this is all just a perspective that some people share (endorsing more privacy), and to many other people the "world is a better place" precisely because of these things that annoy us (living through smartphones, having more of a virtual social life than real life, having all your actions recorded, etc.). Maybe it is just a matter of nostalgia.

    *SPOILER* To anyone who didn't get the ending, "The audience is left to believe that Kenneth is crazy at this point (after Darius finding out that his "dead" old girlfriend that he was saving was still alive)...but what really happened is that on his first trip back through time, Kenneth did something to save Belinda's life that changed reality as we know it. Since she would have been killed in 2001 by a car crashing into her house, Kenneth changed that fate by crashing a car into her boyfriend's house before Belinda and Kenneth ever dated in that time stream. This was the "I've only done this once before" part of the time traveling ad Kenneth posted. Belinda is alive, but has no memory of dating Kenneth because that never happened in this new reality. Belinda is alive and well but is now married to someone else while Kenneth works in a grocery store trying to put together a new time machine so he can go back to fix things in 2001 again so this time he gets to be with Belinda."... "It is not outright stated, but is implied, that Kenneth and Darius went back in time to save her mom and that Kenneth has now let go of trying to change time and be with Belinda again because he is now with Darius."

      Jimmy Zheng Because I think they saved her life not on the first trip, but on the second one what had not happened yet. That is why he did not even think she could be alive. :) Brilliant, brilliant movie!!!!!
      Just think about it. If you change the course of events in the past, what could possible be the physical outcome of that. How would that effect the "future". Would create a parallel universe and yours would not be effected at all or really change the history of your universe? If the second one would be true the change is not tied to some kind of timeline. Just think about it!! Really brilliant. I love this movie!!!

      ***** Agreed the ending was great. (SPOILER ALERT) - particularly because through most of the movie you think the guy is a nutball but you're also kind of thinking 'what if'. Then as the momentum picks up your 'what if' starts turning into hoping that he's a legit time traveler. I honestly thought this movie was going to be indie hipster garbage (think "Sideways") but was pleasantly surprised. 5/5

    • @xRadicalAurax
      @xRadicalAurax 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      ShadowKanji Films While I can respect your opinion, I disagree. Ambiguity leaves room for the imagination and in a sense gives people a better sense of closure than some kind of arbitrary/cliche/"tacked on" ending that the writers could come up with (that many people may very well dislike). People are very hard to please in today's day and age, so why not leave it open for the viewers to interpret the ending rather than risking them ridiculing the ever living hell out of the ending you chose?
      Ambiguous endings don't fit every movie, but it fits really well for Safety Not Guaranteed, in my opinion.

    Do NOT judge this movie if you didn't like "Little Miss Sunshine" (I thought that movie was terribly overrated). And do NOT judge it by the trailer. This movie was one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life. It is NOT one of those good movies you forget the next day. I'm a guy, and I cried during the tent song. And I NEVER CRY at all. As outlandish as the ending is, there is something so real and so powerful in this film I can't even put words on it. Its absolute perfection.

    • @ShyLivesMatter
      @ShyLivesMatter 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I really like what you said about this movie (though I did happen to like Little Miss Sunshine, finally got around to watching it recently). And yes, it was better than the trailer. I might not have seen it if I'd watched the trailer first...but I didn't :-) The trailer doesn't really showcase the movie's heart. Anyone expecting a laugh out loud mainstream comedy may be disappointed. This isn't that kind of movie. More awkward, offbeat, and quirky than that...in a good way.
      The ending really moved me as well. I think it, and the movie as a whole, was kind of a love letter to all the misfits and dreamers of the world. All those seen as weird or losers or not good enough and laughed at by the "normal" people. All those cynical assholes of the world that want our dreams to fail just because theirs did or whatever their reason. The end was like a giant middle finger to all the haters. Saying its ok to be different and live your own life (much like LMS), and anything IS possible if you believe and have hope. Loved it. Was just what I needed at the time.
      Also cool that Mark Duplass (main character) was involved with the movie Jeff Who Lives at Home...another of my faves from the last couple years with a somewhat similar theme. He favourited one of my tweets recently, too...seems like a cool guy.

    For those who read comments while video loads, *don't* watch the trailer. It covers basically all of the movie. Just go ahead and fire up Netflix and hit play, you won't regret it. Aubrey *and* time traveling? No brainer here.

    Great film about loneliness and regret, and roads not taken. If you've zigged when you should have zagged in life at least once, and are still hurting from it, you will definitely get the feels. Or hey, if you juts have a heart! I like that the movie had the balls to go through with the sci-fi ending, that was badass. It's saying, "Hey, magic is real!"

    My comment may sound generic to you but it's true, this movie just makes you feel so good when you watch it. I highly recommend it. As for what it's about, as the trailer shows, they want to write a story about the guy who wrote this personal ad looking for someone to time travel with. Aubrey Plaza poses as someone answering his ad so they can find out if he can really time travel or if he's just crazy, then she begins to fall for him. It's such a great movie, you need to see it.

    How can a film be this good? I must have slipped into a time warp myself in order to make it possible, including exciting 15 mph car chases, bizarre office parties, weird kids doing things with their food in the next booth, a dragnet agent duo always chasing but never closing in, and a writer budget with enough money for a buffet if they share beds. I'm going back for you, I said to a blank screen, and I'm bringing back all you slackers.

    Just want to say that I don't watch movies very often. In fact, I cut the cable almost a year ago and I don't watch shit, nor have any interest in Hollywood or nonsense on display on TV. Stumbled across this online and watched, and loved it. Read some comments about some not liking the ending and I almost didn't watch. But, if you really think it through, the ending was PERFECT!
