Well done!! You must be so proud of your accomplishment! I've signed up for my first ultramarathon in April next year, the Canum (40 miles along a canal from Newport to Brecon). You're attitude is making me feel like I might actually be able to do it! ❤
Thank you. You have motivated me to stop thinking about doing an ultra and actually do it. Going to do my first next year as part of my 60th birthday goals.
Very well done, Emily 🎉 Both on your ultra and your running journey so far. Thanks for sharing it, it's a great inspiration 😊 I've also discovered Runna through your videos, so I can't thank you enough! I'm a slow runner too, I've been running consistently for the past year. This time last year, when I started my journey, I had signed in for a 5K race and I was worried I wouldn't be able to finish it before the cutt-off time (1 hour). Fast forward to today, I have been travelling for races around Europe, I've ran 3 halfs, 2 30K races and I'm one week out of my first Marathon in Athens. I really can't believe it! People like you have been an inspiration to me this whole time, so a shout-out to you! Thanks 🙏
Thank you so much and so pleased you're loving Runna! Wow that's incredible progress, you should be so proud!! Good luck with your first marathon, sounds like you're well prepared!
I love how you always say "my first ultra" - running is not just a one time challenge for you, but part of your life and future, and that's inspiring 😊
My first marathon is in less than 50 days and this video couldn't have been more perfect for my dip in confidence this week. One foot in front of the other really does get you there!
Ah Emily, I do look forward to your videos! Thank you for sharing your life with the rest of us... you are an inspiration and just love how down to earth you are :)
Well done Emily 🎉 You’re an inspiration 😊 I’m running a marathon on a track-105 laps. It’s more about the mental challenge of running in circles, and I wanna see if I can push through.
Thank you so much :) ooo massive massive good luck. 105 laps!!! If you can do that you can literally do anything. Remember to keep smiling, it really helps!!!
Late to the party, but great to hear your thoughts on the ultra! Apparently, using paper towel instead of toilet paper is superior, because the toilet paper disintegrates from the sweat the second you even think about using it, the paper towel doesn't! So that's what I'll be carrying for my planned 50miler in June next year. Happy training!
Hi Emily, great video!! While I'd never do a marathon, never mind an ultra marathon, I have signed up for the metric marathon in Chester for October next year!! 😮😱🙈 Never run further than 13.1 miles so I'm a bit nervous to go 5k further in one race, but like you say, until you try you never know! So that's my 2025 goal! Who knows what I'll do afterwards, but who knows!! 👀😁🤷🏻 Xoxo
emily, you did so well! you are so inspiring (i’m a fellow slow runner). i found it fascinating how you said your peak training weeks were 50-60km (31-37 miles), i am currently training for my first half marathon and i’ve been striving for up to 38 miles a week… i’m a full time student so this takes a lot of juggling, so maybe im running too much? the advice online about mileage is so conflicting, especially “your long run shouldn’t be over 50% of your total mileage” which i’ve always followed? anyway, i also resonate with your city running, i’m in manchester and it’s super flat. it’s actually crazy, luckily when i go home i do live in a hilly area! take care
Thank you so much! I think whatever training plan / miles work the best with your schedule, then do that. If you feel like you’re running too much, maybe pull back a bit? There is such conflicting advice, I honestly try to not read too much on it because I feel like it would just leave me more confused than before 😂😅
Hey! I'm definitely not an expert but I've done a couple of marathons and a couple of ultras. If you're feeling good and building slowly then there isn't necessarily "too much" running. It's only too much if it's negatively impacting you, either physically or mentally. You can complete a half on about 18-20 miles a week, but the higher your weekly mileage the easier it'll be 😊 Good luck!
There's a running event called the drop which you may like it's where you get blindfolded and taken to a destination and have to navigate yourself back to HQ
Yes!! You can choose general fitness or a running focus strength routine and it’ll build either for you. Includes a full strength routine, including how many sets and reps, also videos of how to do the workout :)
Haha this one I think I’ll need more time to think about BUT I could see myself doing this a couple years maybe! I’d really like to work on my strength and speed before signing up to another ultra because otherwise the extra time on your feet with being a naturally slower runner is just brutal

Ahh thank you so much!! Yes I’m definitely in running for the long run (no pun intended 😅)

Ahhh I’m so glad the video helped you!! Dips in confidence is SOOOO normal during training blocks. Just trust your training and you will be fine 💖
Ah Emily, I do look forward to your videos! Thank you for sharing your life with the rest of us... you are an inspiration and just love how down to earth you are :)
Thank you so much 💖
I AM still just a 5k race runner but loved to follow your journey all to a ultra marathon. Wow..just wow. Very well done!
Thank you so much 💖💖

Omggg hahaha I would actually fail that, my sense of direction is so terrible
I am doing one in December I do worry I won't make it back
Hey Emily! Where your strength training sessions programmed by runna as well ? Like the exercise selection, sets, reps etc.
Yes!! You can choose general fitness or a running focus strength routine and it’ll build either for you. Includes a full strength routine, including how many sets and reps, also videos of how to do the workout :)
Would you try running a city marathon in Europe
100%!
Emily , is that the right Strava handle ?
