Same, ARPGs were my favourite genre (Action Roguelikes probably take that spot these days) but I have a rule of not playing f2p games as they tend not to be consumer friendly. I always felt I was behind the curve if I ever did jump into POE so sadly never did.
couple of things falcon forgot to say, the 30 bucks is a supporter pack and you get in game currency to spend in micro transactions(its only for that can't be used for anything else) and if you were a POE1 player and brought MT there they carry over to path of exile 2
@@dongvermine The MTX is cosmetic or QoL-only. Not sure what you want: a free game with free expansions, or a paid game with paid expansions? AA/AAA games are too expensive to make nowadays without some form of monetization. You can't buy power, and you don't NEED to buy any MTX at all, so I'm not sure what the complaint is here.
The thing with PoE monetization though is it relys heavily on whales - moreso than other games. It has a lot of big spender bundles and such like Star Citizen (but not to the same scale). Not every f2p game can sustain themselves on what are essentially donations to fund their game.
I think you would be surprise by how many ppl will pay more at companies when said company shows goodwill and passion A lot of company will never take the first of an ordeal like that bc it is very scary when they mess up and don't hit the expected return (witch means publicly traded companies are out of the question) but in general when ppl are very happy with a product they will never mind putting more money to make it even better
I disagree here. I'm not a whale of any sort and I rarely spend on games but PoE manages to make me pull out my wallet a couple of times already. That's just how great the game is.
Got a bunch of in game currency when I got my old 750ti graphics card. Never heard of POE at the time, played it and was immediately hooked. So excited for this, best part is that it’s free so my buddies can try the genre without having to pay
I think my favorite of this overview is the signs it's a little more approachable in terms of passive skills, and also the "weight" of your character and actions with attacks that actually take time for you as well as the monsters. Gives you more time to appreciate the monster design and "weight" to the fights, but also of course introduces strategic elements as well as a desire and hunt to speed up said attacks. Good overview, just what I was looking for! :)
why does every review of the early access say that your paying $30 just to get early access to a free to play game? the $30 gets you 30$ worth of microtransaction currency that you can put towards either cosmetics or stash tabs so the game basically is still free to play. I'm not a fan of basically forcing you to buy that currency to get in but the value is still there.
So if i gave you a compleetly free lollypop, but i only let you out of my house when you pay me 50 bucks, then it's fine... right? Since you payed the 50 bucks and got that sweet lollypop... Compleetly forgeting that you where held hostage and had to pay me 50 bucks for your freedom...? I should start making work of people like you, sounds like easy money... Because i have a free bridge to give you...
@Dezzyyx if there was no mtx the game wouldn't exist because they couldn't make money since the games free. Most people at some point will spend at least 30 for either cosmetics or stash tabs anyways. All I'm saying is your not paying 30 for just the game, you get $30 worth of in game items on top of that.
5:34 I just had a hemorrhoidectomy on Monday. I blame you for the pain this laughter gave me. Great review! I think this is the one that's sealed the deal on me playing this. Sounds like they've fixed lots of the headaches of poe1.
Considering the massive hype for POE2, it was almost inevitable to be release day issues; it's essentially impossible, or just wasteful, to have infrastructure that supports going 0-100 when that's literally only relevant for the first 24 hours. I'd bet money nothing of this kind will happen again until *maybe* the full release, but maybe not even then.
Just wish there was some physics to the deaths.. seeing the deaths react same way is so dull and repetitive, like it doesn’t give the sense of impact or feeling of being overpowered after grinding for special gear and levels all day. I’m sure the gameplay and such is amazing
Ironically there is no such things as "default attack". Everything is slotted as a skill that can be upgraded with supports. I found this difficult to understand when I put a scepter (? can't remember the name) on my Witch and then was unable to melee with it at all because the default skill for that weapon is an aura or summon; a departure from POE1 that I am totally okay with. Speaking of auras (and other buffs), I also love that you don't have to slot those skills on your hotbars anymore to get the effect. Just have it selected as one of your nine skills and it works. Boom.
I'm digging it so far. Still very early in the game. My only complaint at the moment is, group loot. So when you game with friends. It's a loot ninja experience. Which sucks.
I think it would have been worth mentioning that you get $30 worth of in-game 'points' currency with the purchase (handy for stash tabs). Other than that thanks for the video. 👍
The 30$ comes with an equivalent amount of the premium coins that you can use to buy stash tabs, and these things are interchangeable between PoE 1 and 2. It’s gonna go f2p after full release anyways if you’re on the fence, but if you want a deeply customisable ARPG with a slower, more methodical gameplay then I’d definitely recommend it.
@@AMabud-lv7hy Thanks a friend of mine had a key i could use and try, I ended up spending more than the 30$ xD in stash and customization :D Its really a great game I liked it ! r Highly recommended if others are on the fence too
Wondering why there is no mention of the 3 ways to play or install the game. You can download and play on the standalone client once it becomes available. Your Early Access also includes keys to play on Steam or Epic which can be claimed below. I prefer to load the game on my PC rather then run it on Steam. Do you know when the standalone client will be available?
I went with the $60 version just because I wanted to support the dev. I played about 100 hrs of the first game and never spent a cent on it so I figured I could pay them the price of a full game for access to this one. Admittedly being told I hadn't paid for like 3 hours straight today was annoying but I'm not taking my money back.
Ima just get n ps5 cuz that’s all I got. think if u just wanna play, doesn’t matter. Been looking at games like these but never got into just Diablo 2. Ima just full send it
Been wanting to pick up the first game but never found the time. Saw the footage of the sequel and it blew me away how gorgeous it looked. Love these style of games and if anything can pull me away from Borderlands, it might be this.
Nowadays Developer use Early Access as an excuse and strategy to defense against criticism if bug or error occurs and lower people expectations of the game. its actually a full game already done but marketed as "it was not even its final form tho"
Just to be clear, the 30$ gives you currency to use in either PoE1 / PoE2 for mtx, not just access to EA. And the trick here is... what you buy in one game can be available in the other. And for those who don't know, the stash tabs to organise, trade and play efficiently generally cost 20-30$ anyway. Path of Exile is more like free to test than free to play. It CAN be done without getting the stash tabs, but it's a nightmare.
Novel idea; a single-player game that doesn't require you to be online. I swear, the only game I can play when the internet is out is the old Star Wars Battlefront 2 from 2006
The only thing that makes this game early access is the fact that the last 3 acts are coming at full launch. As someone who never plays ARPG’s with the exception of ~10 hours of Diablo IV before never touching it again, THIS GAME IS SICK! This will get you into ARPG’s without a doubt, especially if you like build crafting. 100% worth the 30 bucks for early access
@ true we get more classes at full launch but there’s so much content rn most people won’t even play half of the classes currently out between now and the full launch. I think you’re forgetting how much endgame is currently in early access and the lack of a couple classes doesn’t take away from the fact 30 bucks for what we have is totally worth
its early access still after the 4 months to..... the full game for poe1 took about 10 years to "make" poe2 will be never ending to so another 10 years lol
Not really. The best testing and feedback you can get is from real users, in the world of software we very often release things early so that we can get feedback as early as possible and implement it into the product. It's pretty much standard practise in software development and has been for a while, it's not an acheivement, it's how things work. The feedback loop of release small and early then get feedback and implement then repeat is the best way to develop interactive software.
@@riffcrypt8438ah yes which will of course be true because you decided to think it, regardless of the fact that many improvements made in this game were in direct response to critiques from the first game
I 100% disagree!!! The story is of CRUCIAL importance... Too long now has it been super neglected in so many titles. One of the best and satusfiying was to progress in a game is the curiosity to know what comes next... To wonder what happens next to those characters you care about... A good story really enhances a video game.
100% disagree with YOU about it being neglected in 'so many titles'. He also mentioned specifically how this is a genre where replaying is common and it's important to be able to avoid getting bogged down in story, but that doesn't mean you can't if you want to.

@IAmDaDumb1 you're missing the point, little bro. Try not to get too worked up and follow along. Edit: Never mind, just saw your name. Makes sense now.
It was made with more access in mind thats why they gave PC a WSAD movement but you can choose to click like the previous game. Also this is the console version in the video.
It supports team play so needs to be online. Plus that's how they validate your mtx'es, not to mention your builds can be made public on their web site if you choose to. One thing I don't like in EA is there is no predictive networking mode which means a network lag can make it stutter.
Marketing genius! "Hey want to play this f2p game early?" "Yes" "Give me $30" "Wait that ain't free" "Well yeah it is cause the game isn't out yet" "But ppl are playing it" "Yeah it's a f2p $30 game, what don't you understand" "..."
i mean you’re paying for access to play the game early, if you’re ok with waiting then you can wait. Also for this game they give you $30 of premium currency to use so technically you’re getting a lot more value out of it than simply access to the game
Gonna say something highly controversial, if the game needs me to look up a whole build videos to make it effective, it's not a good game, it should be easy to figure out by a build by simply playing and by looking in-game at skills and passives
I'd agree if you had to look it up just to play... but every good game has you looking up info to be more effective. If it's not detailed enough for you to have to strategize... it's not a good game.
It doesn't need you to look it up, and you can just figure it out. However that takes time and effort. Many people prefer to just follow an easy guide.
@@MrKilliak You cant just figure it out though , especially once you ascend your kinda sol having to restart a new character all together, lol wish people who play PoE realize you do need a guide for just about any build..... and cant just put into any skill and make it work......

I want to create a new character, but I’m also dreading hanging my head against the wall of some of these boss fights. It also doesn’t feel responsive for the type of combat it has, at least on ps5. Most of the login issues would be from bottlenecking when everyone is trying to get on at once, they tend to resolve once people actually get past the login screen. As for the early access cost, it's not only completely worth the cost for the product you get, but they even give you $30 worth of currency to spend in the game, so you aren't even losing out at all.
People are so impatient (initially I wanted to use another word). Imagine paying $30 to play an unfinished game instead of waiting just a year to play a polished and complete game for free.
Unfinished this game has as much if not more content than entire fully released games in its genre. And more content and playtime than most games outside its genre over double the price. Plus if you pay 30 bucks u get that value in store credit as well. So basically if you're new and plan to play long term theres no real reason not to play right now. And poe veterans are gonna play either way
It's worth every cent, all ten of them ;-) New Zealander here - yeah tencent provided the funding but are ostensibly hands-off. What was a garage studio in NZ would never have given you POE2 and all it's ethical monetization without financial support. Plain and simple. Do they need tencent as a major shareholder these days, hell no. Tell tencent that.
@ you have shares in Blizzard then? Or are you just broadly Xenophobic? Either way, tencent acquired majority shares in 2019, well after they were established. GGG is a New Zealand game company in every way that matters. Yes, it’s heavily rooted in the Diablo formula, but evolves it in a way Blizzard does not. This is how games in a single genre (grimdark ARPG) thrive.
Just by looking at the character and NPC animations this is incredible! There's so much happening, yet because of the clarity and unique feel for all of the movesets you're not just looking at random flashing and banging effects, bashing attack button endlessly and just spamming potions down the throat lol. I can't wait to get my hands on the full game.
That $30 purchase is actually a supporter pack that comes with bunch of skins and $30 worth of in game currency that you can use to buy whatever the fuck you want. And that bundle will also be available to use in POE1 as most of the mtx in this game is shared on both games. Truely awesome.
While I will agree with most games on that statement GGG is very passionate on their games and this one is no different. Plays differently from the first game BUT it’s fair and refreshing. Yes there are issues with the game (very mild) in it however it’s a game that has actual endgame content ready and available in early access…
Whilst I understand the sentiment, I actively enjoy adapting to the balance tweaks. Sure, your build getting nerfed can feel horrible but getting new stuff to theorycraft with mitigates the frustration for me.
The game is free to play. Its still in early access and you can pay to play early. The game will properly release 2025.. The game survives when players purchase skins, inventory spaces , etc. Even the 30$ you pay to access the PoE2 will give you the in game currency and you can purchase those items using that.
Supporter packs… the game is actually going to be free when it gets out of early access. The paying right now (30$) is to allow you to play EA. If you don’t wanna pay wait for it to launch then it will be free and you won’t have to drop a dime.
One point to add... That $30 you pay for 'Early Access' actually gives you $30 in game 'currency' you can use to 'upgrade' your stash tabs, or whatever you want. So it's really like its 'Free' but you wanted to support them by making a currency purchase out of the gate.

I've always been a bit put off of PoE, because it just seemed a bit daunting to jump in after it expanded so much, but I'm really excited to get in on the ground level of PoE2
Oh that's pretty cool, didn't know that. About the carry-over I mean
It’s full of microtransactions-easy skip
@@dongvermine The MTX is cosmetic or QoL-only. Not sure what you want: a free game with free expansions, or a paid game with paid expansions? @@dongvermineJust go play diablo immortal
@ nope it’s full of microtransactions
The thing with PoE monetization though is it relys heavily on whales - moreso than other games. It has a lot of big spender bundles and such like Star Citizen (but not to the same scale). Not every f2p game can sustain themselves on what are essentially donations to fund their game.
I think you would be surprise by how many ppl will pay more at companies when said company shows goodwill and passion
A lot of company will never take the first of an ordeal like that bc it is very scary when they mess up and don't hit the expected return (witch means publicly traded companies are out of the question) but in general when ppl are very happy with a product they will never mind putting more money to make it even better
I disagree here. I'm not a whale of any sort and I rarely spend on games but PoE manages to make me pull out my wallet a couple of times already. That's just how great the game is.
POE cosmetics are really fantastic, too. So many pets and effects.

Who’s watching this at work 😩
why does every review of the early access say that your paying $30 just to get early access to a free to play game? the $30 gets you 30$ worth of microtransaction currency that you can put towards either cosmetics or stash tabs so the game basically is still free to play. I'm not a fan of basically forcing you to buy that currency to get in but the value is still there.
you lost me, how does that change the fact that you pay? if there was no MTX there wouldn't be nothing to pay for to begin with
Because…. The game costs $30. How is that complicated lol
@MikeyJ28 it's not complicated, but leaving out the fact that for that $30 you get included $30 worth of in game currency is very misleading.

Not really. The best testing and feedback you can get is from real users, in the world of software we very often release things early so that we can get feedback as early as possible and implement it into the product.
It's pretty much standard practise in software development and has been for a while, it's not an acheivement, it's how things work.
