- We hit the streets to ask people if they think men can menstruate. The college kids think yes and the streets beg to differ, watch the video to find out why!

It amazes me how every college student I spoke to had similar responses and the streets were the complete opposite..

I think the biggest confusion here is either it being considered a cultural question or people defining it by the symptoms.
Something that nobody even touched on is what is the biological purpose of menstruation? What is the body trying to achieve?
Because men biologically do have menstruation, it's just not the same as women as different organs and hormones/ levels are involved. Not to mention, the time frame is different. Women have a monthly cycle while men have a daily cycle.
Instead of calling it a menstruation, I have heard/seen people call it "irritable men disorder." Since culturally how people view it is obviously very different than the biological purpose.
Simply put, isn't menstruation simply a sexual/reproduction process to prepare the body for reproduction? For women, it's maintaining the strength of the womb and an environment, eggs can be maintained while being fertilized. The body modifies hormone levels to fit this need.
For men, it's the same idea, but instead, it's for the production and preparation of sperm cells. Our hormone levels are modified as well as testosterone being outside the bodies necessary range can lead to low fertility cells or infertile cells.
So technically, the answer varies by perspective. If we define it as symptomatially, then no men can not. However symptom based perspective focuses only on the byproduct rather than the main purpose or outcome, which I feel is unhelpful/unproductive. If the goal is to build an ikea desk, why are we focusing on the leftover screws rather than the fact we finished the desk itself? It feels like it just detracts from the initial purpose and main idea. On the other hand if we think about it culturally it becomes entirely subjective. In this case unless you are describing someone else's feelings or thoughts you cannot be right or wrong. As it's right to you, to your culture, however not to an opposing individual or cultures perspective. My belief is that the purpose would be a more clear and consistent definition. After all the majority of biological changes, conditions, etc are expressed that humans go through are the same but can be expressed differently. No two experiences are 1 to 1. One such example, someone I knew had appendicitis, however she had almost none of the symptoms, the pain wasn't even in the right place, until it burst inside her. Humans go through the same processes but there are many variables that modify those processes in different ways.

Yes, with this issue. I used to believe a lot of the same things before I graduated college, or at least used to feel it was necessary to conform to these supposedly "correct" ideologies. University should be about creating people who are inquisitive, open-minded and discerning. That wasn't my experience in the general college culture,especially not classes that spoke about this surface level identification.
