      todd aultman -- I'm glad it helped you out! But keep in mind that unless you purchased your recliner "as-is" with no warranty, you should have full warranty coverage for 1 year. So, if you have any problems with your chair during that time, you can contact the seller to have them take care of it, whether it be a simple adjustment, a defect, or a necessary repair. ;)

    So THAT'S what those tensioners are for! I bought a swivel glider from La-Z-Boy and nobody explained to me how there are two separate actions with the foot rest and back tilt. I sort of knew that I could push back on the back and move it but I didn't know it was intentional.

    Boy, am I glad I came across you. I have, I believe, the exact same model as this chair. My mother and I both have one. Her is silent when rocking. Mine clangs and ahifta sideways a lot. I can't figure out what is wrong with mine. Maybe you can tell me. It's so obnoxious. Even teying to get up from the chair makes the worst kins of clanging like metal on metal, but something shifts. If my mother is next to me, she always comments how she hates the chair. Me too 😅

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CozetM - Step 1 is to check the rocking parts: Rocker Blocks, Rocker Springs, etc. to make sure nothing is loose or broken. The bad news is that even if everything is in good condition, rocker recliners are prone to making noise. The wax that La-z-boy uses on the Rocker Blocks can cause side-to-side movement. That's the "shift" you're referring to that can also generate noises.

    Do you have a suggestion when the handle bar/footrest is extremely stiff. It is very hard to open and close. Got it at a thrift store and it's like brand new. I thought it was doing it at store because there was a couch behind it, but got home and after having to get up several times in a row, I almost had pulled my right side muscles in the efforts of it.
    I think this is why it was donated and why it hadn't been bought. Super comfy other than that

I live in a remote location about 35 miles from a store that sells Lazy Boy chairs as well as other brands but I’ve always loved the Lazy Boy brand. I was told it would cost me $100. for a repair man to come out plus labor charges. I’m 81 and don’t own a truck to take it in so any advice that could help me fix it will be much appreciated. Hi, I live in Ohio and have a late 60's extra tall rocker recliner. I picked up the chair for one of my brother's who underwent a quadruple bypass and then was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last fall. We have had two of these extra tall rocker recliners in our family since the early 70's. I had it reupholstered and gave it to him, but it leans or sits back too far and there is a spring missing underneath the chair.

      @Elizabeth L Henderson -- The video, 'Adjusting La-z-boy Rocker/Recliner Pitch' can be found on my website at ReclinerRepairGuy.com. The adjustment is minimal and will not be noticed by most people.
      If your feet reached the floor when the chair was new, your lower back padding has broken-in (started to compress), and you are sitting farther back in the seat, thereby lifting your feet off the floor.
      If your feet did not reach the floor when the chair was new, you bought a chair that does not fit you properly. See my video, 'How to Buy the Right Recliner' for more on that subject.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deb Scheuerlein - There is a tension adjustment (see video where you posted your comment). I believe on sofas this adjustment may be located toward the front of the seat, rather than toward the back, as in the video.

      Or, the back padding may need to be restuffed. It's common with recliner back padding to compress in the lumbar & middle-back areas first. This can result in the headrest section pushing the head forward (neck pain). And the remainder of your back not being properly supported (back pain).

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Live&LetDie - Yes. The adjustment is simple and can be undone if you don't like the results. Just take note of how much you loosen each thumbscrew on each side. I.E. - a 3/4-of-a turn or whatever (small increments are best, track each one). If you don't like the results, turn the screws back to their original tension.
      If you are not able to dial-in the correct tension and have the back work properly (won't come back up, etc.), there is a problem with the Seat Swings (parts that control the back tilt), or the chair does not fit you properly. @MrMusiclover41 - The feature has been common to La-z-boy manual recliners for many years. But I don't believe it's used on hi-leg recliners. There may also be some wall-saver units where it's not available as well.
      And of course the power recliners don't have it, since the back tilt is electrically controlled.

      @@reclinerrepairguy4155 My present recliner is not a high-leg model, nor is it a power recliner. It is a rocker-recliner, and not a wall-saver model. I looked again and still see no thumb screws for adjustment. This chair is fairly large and was not one of the "economy" models. This model is no longer made, apparently. Since I have COPD and sleep in my recliner, this is pretty important to me. I have ordered a new Randell Rocking Recliner which is not a power recliner, specifically for sleeping. The Randell is larger than what I would require for just sitting, since I intend to use it for sleeping. I can take a photo of the bottom of my old recliner for you, if that would help. interesting video, but i'm still having problems with the back tension. i've followed your instructions about adjusting both "thumb screws" the same amount (and doing so, with small, equal adjustments as i've learned from watching other videos). unfortunately, when the foot rest is extended, and the back is in the upright, "TV position", the chair sometimes maintains that setting, but more often than not, it will slowly move back into a gradual fully reclined position. i find myself constantly having to move in the chair to force the back into either its upright "TV position" or into a slightly reclined position. following your suggestion with the "thumb screws", the chair still eventually falls back and now the "thumb screws" are as tight as i can get them (which indicates to me that something else is the problem). do you have any suggestions as to what i can do?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ee - If the chair itself is upright, the tension screws should work normally. However, if the entire chair is pitched back too far, that would put extra weight against the back and make it harder or impossible for it to stay upright. See 'The Recliner Tip-Over Problem' to learn more about chairs that pitch back too far.

    I have a lazyboy recliner that seems to be tilted back, my feet are off the floor by about 6" and I am medium height - this is a Morrison. Also when I have it in recline position, it rachets into a place but then sort of rocks when I move at all, then if I go another notch back it wil click into place, then do the same thing after a minute. We adjusted the tension on the back, that didn't seem to fix the problem. Any idea what this could be? Have watched several videos. The chair is two years old and I got it second hand.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Annie Bee - If your ratcheting recline is not working properly, it's likely due to a repair issue. There may also be a repair issue that's causing the chair to lean back farther than normal. Have a repair tech check those out for you.
      On the other hand, some chairs have a more relaxed geometry. Those backs are not as upright as other recliners. To learn more, see the video 'Recliner Geometry & Pitch' on the ReclinerRepairGuy.com website.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Infamous Truth - The Ratcheting Recline feature is designed to engage when the footrest is extended to keep the chair from rocking. There is no adjustment, it just engages.
      If the chair then pitches back too far on its own, this is a separate issue that often has to do with weight distribution in the chair. Learn more by watching this video.

When I sit with the chair in an upright position with the foot rest closed, my feet are shy 3 or 4 inches from touching the floor, same as the lady in the video. @Sharon Sharon Sharon - I'm afraid not. UNLESS, they sat more upright when you first purchased them. That would indicate they have developed a problem. But if they've always been that way, that's how they are designed.
      That's why it's so important to try out a number of makes and styles before purchasing, to find the one that works best for you. About the only thing you can do now, is to use a back cushion to sit more upright.
      I should also mention that if this was a recent purchase, and the furniture still has full warranty protection, you can try reporting the problem to the seller to see if they'll work with you to resolve the problem.

      Wornslick - 3 possibilities come to mind: 1) If the chair has been in a high humidity environment, the Seat Swings can actually seize or freeze-up at their pivot points. When that happens, the tension adjustment won't loosen things up.
      2) One or both Seat Swings may be bent or damaged in a way that causes it to hang up or get stuck.
      3) If your recliner is a wall saver, the Bearing Link Subs (rollers) along the bottom of the chair also have to move freely for the back tilt to function properly.
