    Great images and lots of fun. Rho will definitely be worth revisiting again and again! Totally jealous as we’ve had nothing but clouds for 3 months here in Santa Fe New Mexico. Coincidently the first night with reasonable lack of clouds two days ago I chose Rho Ophi and a Nikon 180 2.8. New subdivision construction to our southwest is creating new light pollution dome. Will need to travel to a Bortle 3 or better to catch the dark dust lanes of Rho Ophi. Looking forward to your final images!! Wish I were there!

    Another lens I have had some good results in bortle 8-9 skies with is the Mitakon 135mm F2.8 lens. It is a completely manual lens and the camera does not even think it has a lens. It is a budget lens for under 200 dollars. It might be a good starter lens for someone tight on funds. I love the thing.
    (A quick update, I do have to crop the images with my full frame camera due to vignetting with the lens wide open. Not so much with my crop sensor camera.)

    Im currently shooting Rho with the Rokinon/Samyang 50mm. at first I thought the lens was garbage, but stopped down to F/3 its great. I also have the 135 and love it. Use it almost every time out. Of course I have the 14mm for milkyway shots. I really enjoy using their lenses and they really perform well during the day also!

    I'll try the Samyang 135mm for wide-field EAA. My idea is to really get to know the bigger views and the context around all the galaxies and nebula I can only see in detail with a bigger telescope like a 8 inch newtonian I normally use. Great to hear the Samyang 135mm works so fine. It will reduce the capture time for EAA even more.

    Wow, that's a really good shot of Rho Ophiuchi, the amount of dust you got is amazing. The Roki 135 f2 really is a beast at AP and stars without needing to be stopped down, I hope you get a lot of use out of that lens. Also I would love to see you use it with the 1600mm and mono filters, I've seen really cool results with that type of rig.

    • @constellationshots3893
      @constellationshots3893 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GalacticHunter yeah, backspacing can be a pain when you mix lenses with dedicated cooled cameras, but I think QHY makes an adapter set, I’m not sure since I have a zwo camera with efw to ef lens adapters and those adapters will probably also fit on QHY depending on the M threads. But even with a dslr(or mirror less) I wish you luck, that’s a really fun lens from what I hear.

    Lovely video Antoine! I do like this nebula region, unfortunately is very low in the sky from my home. I am thinking the small star trails that you had could be because of balancing, having good balance with a dslr and lens can be harder.

    Try to jump up to 2.8, it will give you less work and even sharper images. Just a tip. I want to shoot this Rho, but in my place in Norway, the summer are so bright in jun- beginning of aug, that the view of RHO is gone. I live up North, almost like the same as Trevor from Astrobackyard. It is nice to see more and more people joining her also, we astro folks need to grow, because this is the most beautiful hobby in the world. Clearski.

    My experience with Rokinon/Samyang wasn't as good. I got the 14mm f/2.8 for Nikon Z mount and fully open even at the center the stars had nasty coma like distortion. I had to stop down to f/5.6 to get rid of it and at that point I could just use the Nikon 14-30mm f/4 lens anyway. But it was a super cheap lens, maybe they put more effort into this one.

    Maybe im being a bit special but how did he not have star trails without a proper alignment?

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The alignment was good, just not "extremely precise". The lens is much wider than a telescope so star trails aren't visible with that exposure time if you're a bit off in the alignment.

  • @kaeseonline

    Nice! How did you use the mount for Tracking? You just set it at random star for tracking and pointed the ball head in a different direction? Maybe i missed somerhing…thanksw

      i think he got lucky

    • @wooddogg8
      @wooddogg8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He must have polar aligned, I think the random star part was just tricking the mount to think he went through the autoguiding feature without any actual guiding. In my experience even at 50mm you gotta polar align pretty well to get 3 min subs.

    • @kaeseonline
      @kaeseonline 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lets assume it is polar aligned. Then I can point at any star with the mount and Track and at the time point in another direction using the ballhead?

    • @wooddogg8
      @wooddogg8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kaeseonline When you polar align, the mount is pointed to the pole, everything in the sky revolves around the pole so you can point your ballhead and camera anywhere in the sky and the mount will (by simply rotating) track it.

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I polar aligned the mount, then "faked" the star alignment process through the hand controller so that the mount starts to actually engage the gears to track the sky, then yes I just aimed the camera to the target. Once it's tracking you can aim anywhere :)

      @@gooe9561 the mount tracks the sky with or without guiding. That's how an equitorial mount works. Ball heads are used by people for framing purposes, because they can't figure out how to make it work with RA/DEC

    Did you say 2-3 hours for M107? why so long. Isn't a modern Sony light sensitive enough to shoot video of the stars? so how could it require more than a second or a minute of exposure. I assume that 135mm doesn't need stacking? Is Sony A7IV not better than Canon EOS RA?
    Also maybe do 4k videos. When you have 4k displays it's just worlds apart in youtube. And they are neglecting HD bandwidth on top of the resolution difference.
