Lol, loved the Doctor Who reference.
Just coming on to make this exact comment and saw this.
Glad you understood the mavity of the situation!
It's incredible how much of a sucker for transformation, organisation and overall construction projects I am. Combine that with how accessible you make everything, my head just rushes with ideas of how I want to organise my own maker space.
Thank you very much for everything you do :)
Thank you so much. It’s great to hear that this stuff is received like that.
me too except i always procrastinate and embrace the mess
The aesthetics of Laura Kampf and her pink tape labels could probably be an interesting inspiration for you. There's something soothing in seeing a chaotic creative mind in an clearly organized setting, that's one way of using gridfinity or tape strips or something more you
Mavity… such a good/new Doctor Who reference that most won’t catch 😂
Nice transformation, Alan! And I can't believe I've been taking dust off my tabletops wrong this whole time 😆
Got to think outside the box! Shop vac was only getting me so far…
Do you know what material you used to cover the wall and rockwool? The white cloth thing... where can I get it? Thank you for your content.
@@dayshafreeman it is “painter’s drop cloth” aka “canvas drop cloth” any hardware store should have it.
A Man of Culture. i always vacuum my Tabletops.
Also very inspiring for me. I recently dipped into 3d Printing and stuff and i have a spare Room in my Cellar which i want to transform in my Workroom/Studio. 3d Printing Area, Soldering Area, Laptop Area and Woodworking Area. Another room under my Garage will be for Metalworking.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Ah, organization projects, the triump of hope over experience :-).
loved this video. Keep them up
Mavity! Thank you so much for that!
dang Mavity, always dragging out drawers that ain't set level. (Surprised you haven't made anything TARDIS Blue yet...)
TARDIS Server Rack maybe? 🤔
Looks great but the banner doesn’t show up great on camera. Have you considered creating a 3d printed version of your logo and putting that on the wall?
Oh don’t worry, BIG changes are coming to that space…
HECK YEAH DUDE!! This looks RAD!! Nice work on this!
The fabric wall for the cable management is so awesome!
I like using the toolboxes and thought of something similar, however I think I would leave the wheels so I can still use them on wheels, but maybe I would never do that, no clue LOL.
How about show boxing one or two drawers for your most used tools that way you know what tool you misplaced before you need it. The lasers are great for that job.
May have to make that happen. Good project for the xTool.
Looking very good! Can definitely relate to being a tech magpie..
"future bigger once hint hint" someones building a phoenix ?
I wish. Just can’t justify how much space that would eat up in my studio, but not too far off…
Gridfinity works for me, I designed holders for all my crimpers and tools etc.. and fastners.. oh boy I have entire drawers of fastners all in gridfinity.
I'd suggest that your right hand draw would do well with a heap of custom boxes so everything has a specific home. Alternatively you could look at something similar to what Colin Furze did with Shadow foam. The reason I say that is that if there's an empty spot where a tool or thing is supposed to be, you tend to notice it's not been put back when you're looking for something else, so your OCD goes "where is that it's not where it's supposed to be" and you find it and put it back. it helps me a *lot*
Awesome results! Now if we just filled the gap between the toolbox top and the framing for the counter top.. my OCD.. I may try something similar in the future in my basement space if I can find a place where it can stay planted.
Ohh man it looks so good! And I can get with the ADD mind haha ... I still live with my dad and my bedroom is the room I do everything in. Starting multple projects at the same time sometimes even on the same day ... and one of my "workbenches" is my bed ... which on the end of the day needs to be clear of course. At some point the whole room is full of stuff and I can't even get one project done. Looking forward to the evolution of your studio ;) (and making my own when I finally get to move out of my dads house).
I saw the almond outlets and I was like "IN 2024?!" then you mentioned you were just moving the existing ones. That was close, thought I had to unsub :P
Shadow Foam in the drawers would look boss.
I’ve got the laser… hmmm
Imagine how many people are redoing their shops right now just to fit the Orange Storm.
Imagine how many people aren’t prepared for how big the machine actually is. 😅 There is a 0% chance I could make it fit other than just having it in the middle of my other space’s floor. 🤣
@@MandicReally Just been there and done that with a Comgrow T500 and a Lasermatic. Basically any new machine needs a complete redesign for me.
I feel your pain I have re-arranged my space 4 times since I moved into our new home less than 2 years ago. I don't even have to worry about recording or how it looks that way and I can never make up my mind how things are going to be laid out.
I will like the spool holder in the wall in my office. I have zero space right now. Greetings from Spain.
I really wish I could afford all that filament. That looks killer man keep up the good work. And also a wled setup would look great while you Film and super easy to setup
I've been organizing and purging for the last 2 months now. I find that the pack-out organizers don't have enough small bins but you can 3d print better bins! The Milwaukee packouts are too expensive but the other brands are reasonable.
I’ve got a pile of the Harbor Freight packout-like containers for hardware. I’ll likely make a setup to store those in separately yet. They too don’t have enough small containers but that’s what printers are for. 👌🏻
4:40 tiny trick here, if someone ever ask me to hammer those nails, I would use a metal rod to expand the reach. I work in piano and need to hammer precise spots, so I use several sizes of "pinch set" for "hinge doors removal" - Im not english I tried my best to explain.
man, i love those custom corner cubes for the merc... i NEEED THEM lol
hey how did you get into my work space! lol, im sure i have the part you need...somewhere as well.
Looking good! I know the struggle of having a ton of stuff in the same space as your recording space, the struggle is real!
It really is a constant battle. And I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to hoarding tech, so that does not help.
@@MandicReally then I start printing cases for my tech, but then I need to print 20 of them till they're perfect so I have piles of "not good enough" prints lol
You did a great job. I have a nice organized shop... It was a chore to keep tidy. I remember where I left stuff, but they are not in the proper place. I jump from project to project so now I store projects in labled bins so the parts stay to geather. When I stop, I dump every thing back in and put it on the shelf. I have a lot of bins. :)
I do have project bins / boxes as well (in another section) but a lot of projects pull from “inventory” of parts I keep on hand. That’s the biggest issue, the inventory isn’t very…
Inventoried. 😅 Someday we will get a
real inventory management system.
You need a bigger poster now!
Yes, yes I do. 👍🏻👍🏻
Cat 7 is a bit overkill in my honest opinion, but hey if you got the funds why not
Nice one Alan. Turned out great. I’m impressed at how quickly you got this finished AND made a video about it!
Great job! That was a huge project and you saw it through! 🎉
you have a terrible action while talking buddy 😢
That first shot looks familiar 😂 Also in the progress of getting things a bit more clean again.
Definitely pulling the trigger on a husky box for my house
That Matco toolbox is down right sexy!
Can you tell me how long it took to build the wall? And what type of nailing gun thing is that and where can I get that? I want to build a studio for my 3d Printer and stuff...
That nail gun is from Harbor Freight. A drill and screwing it together would be more accessible as you need an air compressor to run the nail gun & electric nail guns are way more expensive. Time to build? I could have done it in a day if I wasn’t filming and working around electrical. So it probably took 3 days having to make room and film.
Studio is looking good. It gives me some ideas for my TH-cam studio.
Did I see you install the gang boxes incorrectly? I am pretty sure The tabs on the sides are supposed to be the flush point on to the stud. But hey to each their own. Nice build though I need to do exactly the same as you, clutter is killing my project flow
The box is intended to poke through drywall. I “recessed” it as I don’t have drywall. 👌🏻
Looks great. I like the cloth wall.
Looking really good. Keep it up
This so cool I love these type of videos
Scope creep!
So much scope creep
Ok the mavity caught me off guard. "Is he *trying* to make me think that it's the correct word?"
🤣🤣🤣
personally I think gridfinity excels for small tool clusters on your desk. I have a 3x5 grid with two sets of cutters, a set of pliers, a file, straight and angled teezers, deburring stuff, nozzles, a glue stick, needles, calipers, a few different style putty knives, and lastly a printed alcohol bottle. all easily accessible and pretty much as small as a pure pile of said tools.
it was more work but I went with 1x1 grid that use dovetails to connect. started with a 2x2 and just added as I found the need. in hindsight I think it needs to be modded to support derby weights so the small clusters have more weight when tools are removed.
Gridfinity is a rabbit hole. At first it seems like the ultimate organizational solution, but then you realize it's easier said than done to organize a plethora of disparate tools and supplies with only one system. Much of the process of getting organized is subjective and it will take time to find a solution that meets your expectations. At the moment, I am using both Gridfinity and other modular organizational systems that can coexist with Gridfinity and have found this approach much more appealing.
Looks amazing! I too suffer from ADD and know that is important to keep your workbench, work area, clean and organized. The struggle is to clean up after each project otherwise you get back to a mess.
That's pretty clever to build a frame around the tool chests. I'd been looking into using tool chests in my maker space but didn't like the look of it. This solves that problem. I'll definitely be stealing this idea. Looking forward to how the new studio layout progresses.
Great project! I love to see how everyone grows into their space and how those spaces reflect peoples' priorities and workflow. Thank you for sharing :)
Gridfinity seems like a great idea for small parts - bolts, nuts, washers, t-nuts, magnets, switches, fuses, heat set inserts, and the like - while tools can be better organized by simply shadowboxing the drawers with foam. Either way, the new studio space looks great!
Looks great! Well done.
"Mavity," eh? Love it, Alan! The new space looks terrific! Congrats.
Looks awesome man
Great start to a killer setup! Keep it up an organized workshop makes the work so much easier to accomplish and finish. 👍
I'm glad to see I'm not the only nightmare studio lol. Great job man it looks great.
Very nice! Very well thought out and still very flexible. Clean.
Dude! The way you manage transitions in this video through time is incredible!! I love it!
12:33 LOL
"Promo SM"
What an amazing transformation! I hope you are proud of the outcome, it looks fantastic
Can’t wait to see more. It’s looking good man!
5:12 is that a Phoenix teaser???
I wish, maybe not THAT BIG. 😅🤣
I love it. Gives me ideas for my new work area
yes! finaly an upgrade😉
first
get foam in the boxes, and cutout shapes for the tools 👍
I have the laser, I really should do that for the tools. Good call. 👍🏻
Please do a video if you do.
Loving the cat Co presenter
Jean is the real brains of the operation. 😅
damn, second
Damn… third
missed opportunity to install at least one 220V for future projects like Milo 1.5 or just having it for a bigger printer since the bed would heat up quicker
Other side of the studio already has 220v run. It’s setup as more of the “workshop” space. 👍🏻
If you do go with gridfinity, it might make more sense to CNC the gridfinity baseplates out of thin MDF, and size them so they drop into the drawers perfectly
