    Great images , I really like them. I love my older Nikons ( D750-D810 ) great image quality and that D750 can see in the dark, amazing low light focusing.

    After many years of using Sony (A7III and A7RIII), I managed to find out what I didn't like much about Sony IQ, and it's precisely that extreme "sharpness". I'm middle-aged guy that used to have film cameras and early digital ones (Canon 5D, Nikon D700) for many years, and I never found the transition difficult. I see photography as an expression of art, so I get that from older Nikons and Canons. I can understand why younger people find extremely sharp pictures appealing as most of them have been raised alongside computational phtography built-in in smartphones. However, in my experience, it's not Sony colors that I don't like, it's the looks, the clean sterile look that have become today's standard in fashion and wedding photography. I now have a Canon R, alongside my Nikon DF and Sony A7RIII. I enjoy the images from all my cameras, but the ones that give me real satisfaction are those from the Niko Df and vintage AIs lenses. Canon R and Sony came second although technically, the AR7III is the best performing camera out my trio.

    I think the grain on the older sensors looks better, easier on the eye. I shoot Sony full frame too. Because it's sharper, eventually so is the grain. You are 100% right about what we photographers obsess vs client's value. They look at how the photos capture their particular moments, we look at the sharpness in the bottom left corner of the picture and can write three pages about it. It is great to have older cameras in your arsenal so we don't forget the real value of photography. Great video.

    I primarily shoot with nikon for more than a decade, and stucked with d750 for 5 years, jumped to a7III this year and dislike the colour. Tried a7IV once from sony centre and could not compare whether d750 or a7IV output colour is the best.
    But this video change the whole thing. I still love the d750 colour science and from your help, I believe a7IV would give a lot more lesser time for post processing than a7III.
    Thanks a lot

    The main improvement in digital cameras over last 10 years have been in video.
    For mirrorless photo, a7r3, a7iii, and a9 represent the sweet spots in resolution, balance, and speed.
    For DSLR photo, Nikon D850, D750, and Canon 1DX2.

    really nice comparison video...
    i think a big part of the differences in details and sharpness comes from the different lenses.. an f1.4 vs f1.8 is like premium vs average lens.. also the extra MP count on the sony will always definitely give more details on photos.. even when i compared my D800 to my D750.. i notice the difference when i zoom in on pictures..
    but..
    another part of the details is also, possibly, the focus..
    on dslrs, i noticed you almost always have to do AF fine tuning on your lenses if you want to get the best/sharpest results.. specially if you are going to use them at their widest apertures.. every milimeter matters in those situations if you're going to pixel peep..

    I use to shoot with a pair of 750’s until I swapped them out for the Z6. Try as I did I couldn’t get use to the Nikon mirrorless bodies so I migrated to Sony. I personally believe technology has stagnated so the differences between the latest and those older cameras are small.

    if you or your customers are sensitive to delicate colour rendering performance difference between vintage french made lens vs modern lens, it’s worth to compare stunning difference on artistic quality which will show how well that oldest french brand such as som berthiot outperforms modern lens in richness of colour and smooth transition between. it will be well beyond those superficial factors such as sharpness, contrast etc.

    Not sure what it is, but your raw files are always looking really good out the camera. My raw photos out of my a7riii just seems to have coloring issues, white balance and contrast issues when editing in Lightroom. So when I use your presets it’s hard to get a similar look.

    • @enrico8730

      Have you tried new cameras? The D750 low light performance seems pretty similar to my A74, I was quite surprised. Of course the A74 is a much better camera in other ways but yeah. Low light on the D750 is shockingly good

  • @michaelkaercher
    @michaelkaercher 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Most of your obersvations I could understand. The problem was a bit that you compared a 1.8 against a 1.4 which is usually triple the price. And the fact that the lens is scratched suggests that is part of the reason for the problems. As an owner of a D750 I do see no reason to upgrade.

  • @PhilippeOrlando
    @PhilippeOrlando 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Considering that most people don't actually look that good, a sharp combination of cam+ lens is NOT great. Your Nikon D750 is what you want to use when you have people in the picture. Keep your Sony for landscape with no humans in it, unless they're 5.

  • @grom5756
    @grom5756 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I had D750, I sold it and got R6 II which I sold, because I did not like the colors and shadow recovery and changing the way files looked in Lightroom was not pleasant experience. I got it last year, because Z9 was too expensive and autofocus of Z6/7 bodies was lacking, now there is Z8 with stacked sensor and good price for what it is.
    I planned to buy A9 second hand, because it is dirt cheap and I could buy lens with the money from the Canon, now I have decided to see if Z6 III has stacked sensor and what more lenses may come for Nikon, because I like the bodies, the mount is bigger(than E mount), so the cameras have better stabilization and lastly I don't want to regret it again, as was the case with the Canon.
    Here, when I play with the Sony and Nikon raw files, I like the Sony ones and they are close to my D750.
    One thing that bugs me is that when playing with exposure and shadows in D750 file- 750_0161
    and the respective A7 IV file- CT205577, although the original exposure of the D750 is darker, when I push the shadows and exposure the suit of the man has purple spots in the Sony file, playing with the color slider does not matter, because it is not like small noise artifacts that every camera has, the D750 included, but big spots. According to camera decision A7 IV has better dynamic range and better color depth, does anyone know why does this happen?
    One thing that is holding me from the A9 is that it has even worse dynamic range and also stacked sensors can show artifacts like the ones I mentioned, I know A7 IV is not stacked, without looking I am almost certain it is BSI though.
    Thanks to anyone who replies.
    Edit: In CaptureOne it looks different. I had a small insight. It is low pass/anti aliasing filter.. It is just moire.

    Sony has more functions and better autofocus. But in the end, if we only talk about the quality of the image, I don't see any difference. The thing with the sharp is 10-15% insignificant. In the end, you are interested in the final image. Yes, sony is easier to use thanks to the auto focus, otherwise I don't think the extra cheese is big

    Its only the lens, not Camera, maybe 95 to 5. Yes the lens on the Sony is much sharper than the lens on the D750, but it does not say anything about the camera!
