  • The Kray Twins: Britain's Most Notorious Criminals | Myth Behind the Legend | FD Crime
Watch 'British Gangsters: Faces of the Underworld' here: • British Gangsters: Fac...
Ronnie and Reggie Kray remain two of the most infamous criminals in British history. Legends to many, their fame was built on a fearsome reputation and almost mythical celebrity-like status, but who were the real Kray twins?
Born and brought up in the East End of London, the Krays became involved in petty crime at a young age but their dark and violent temperaments soon became apparent when they were called up for National Service. Following a stint in prison, they eventually received dishonourable discharges and Ron and Reg became embroiled in all aspects of crime including armed robbery, protection rackets and assault.
The public, however, saw them as charming nightclub owners. Their Robin Hood-like reputations were a stark contrast to their real lives. On the surface, they were mixing with celebrities and Lords, being photographed by David Bailey and enjoying the thrills of the swinging sixties but behind closed doors they were leading sordid personal lives and orchestrating heinous crimes such as the ‘disappearance’ of Frank Mitchell and the brutal murders of Jack ‘The Hat’ McVitie and George Cornell.
Public opinion was split but how were the twins viewed by their contemporaries? This is the inside story of the Krays, told by the people who stood by their side for all those years.

They're massively famous in the UK.
It always fascinates me how they ruled a gang of murderers and thugs mainly through fear.
You'd have thought some murdering thug they bullied would have just shot them both. They weren't like the mafia, the rest of the gang would have just gone home, not fought to avenge the death of their bosses.
And I doubt the police would have tried to hard to find the killer.

They had friends in high places - their influence went all the way to No 10 Downing Street. Tory Lord Bob Boothby and Labour MP Tom Driberg both went to the Krays' gay orgies. Harold Wilson helped cover it all up. They would have been jailed years before they were without the British establishment helping them. At their trial the British establishment decided the Krays had to be buried for good in order to protect themselves. That's why the Krays went down for such a long sentence, way out of line with sentencing policy of the time. Also, the "super grass" system was invented to convict them. So the judiciary and the whole criminal justice system was the corrupt tool of the British political establishment.

To much and easy money and with out breaking sweat once drugs was the biggest earner but when judges hammerd heroin dealers for 13 to 18 years then when cocaine dealers got the same sentence its natural that any man doesnt want to go to jail for 12 to 18 years, thats a long time! Plus they lose everything. So thats why theres so many men changing teams and alot are free lancers wich i believe is the best way as you are your own boss and no one knows much about you if your good at it. Plus take a long break every know and then once you have alot of money. Then ye just come and go that much people dont know what your doing becouse your doing nothing. But its not all an evil trade, heroin is for sure and most that do it get cought, the whole world knows it.

I'm a thorough bred Cockney from that exact Manor this pair of raving irons used to call home.
