If this happens, and you’re running 0w20, then switching to 0w30 will greatly reduce oil consumption. From a nerd who reads the manual…0w30 is recommended for spirited (drive it like you stole it) owners who like to enjoy their ultimate driving machine. 0w20 does not work as intended when the outside temperature is over 70 degrees Fahrenheit. So if you notice more bad oil consumption in summertime then BMW absolutely recommends running 0w30
If there was no such thing as CAFE standards and if 0w30 didn’t cost 1$ more per quart, then BMW’s would be factory filled with 0w30. They probably are in the rest of the world.

You will probably freak out when you get an INCREASED BATTERY DISCHARGE notification, what means that you car's battery is dying and it is no longer able to fully recharge. In my case, it took 7 years to happen (2012 E84 X1 xdrive 2.8). And a new battery is very expensive !
@@Ashley_van_Schooneveldbattery change is extremely easy to do, just make sure to take the negative terminal off first than the positive. And when you're reinstalling it, make sure to put the vent hose for the battery back on, and positive terminal first than the negative. Remember red is first to come to the party, but last to leave. And black is last to come to the party and first to leave. LoL
@@lyrisit12that's good. But did you get the battery programed into the computer tho? If not than the computer will still think the new battery is the old one which will translate to your new battery being changed earlier than it should be.
thanks for the video. I actually freaked out and went back to bmw as I recently purchased the car 3/4 months ago and barely drove my car twice a month, I think. They didn't know why so they just topped up 1l engine oil fr me. I thought I may have some leakage issue but glad I found this video.
Just happend today i baught my 2010 355is (very happy :D) and the oil sensor told me i had low oil and was in red, so i added 1 Liter of oil and than chacked and it was back at max oil. so my question is this, why does is was saying that it had minimum oil and with just 1 liter ( the capaciti of oil is 6.5 liters on the 335is) it changed from minimum to max? should we trust the oil sensor or not?
Same for me. Sensor level didn't go up at all. No oil patches under the car and no white smoke so it's going to the dealer for a diagnostic check. 2016 520d
not sure if all vehicles have this... the BMW X-5 actually has a hidden dip stick under the engine cover. If you can verify the actual level first before adding or draining out any oil as the oil Level sensor may be not working properly.. adding oil when the oil is already full could do damage just as draining out some to lower level.
No, just add oil to reach requested level. You drain the old oil when you reach maintenance mileage (7k, 10k, depends on oil and car). But if your car burns some oil between maintenances just fill up. Also important, don't overdue maintenance because you added oil, some of the oil might fresh but filter is the same and gets dirty

Morning! Apologies for the super late reply. Going around answering as many comments as possible 😁. Just been off youtube for a minute. How low was it prior to you adding more? Was it just at yellow? Or red? If at yellow and you added 2-3 liters then thats more then required. Just to be safe, i would drain the oil out and add from scratch. Since they are digital oil read outs, its hard to really know how much is really in there. Hope that helps somehow!
I still feel it's dangerous to read the oil digital. I ran into an issue with a 2006 BMW, after dash was so gone I couldn't get a proper reading on the oil level. I understand how convenient that could be from the dash, but I still want to know how much oil is in the block while I'm under the hood.
No leakage. Almost every BMW is designed to burn oil. It could be minimum like: you top up 1 quart every 6k miles, or it could be that you top up 1 quart every 1000 miles. Depends on what oil and viscosity you use, and the way you drive as well.

I usually use liqui moly, but today I used Mobil 1 5W-30 fully synthetic oil, it doesn’t matter what oil brand you use i guess but as long as it’s 5W-30 Fully Synthetic and I recommend them two brands, liqui moly can be ordered online it’s made in Germany.
My 2014 BMW X5 5.0i kept loosing oil. Finally, BMW had a tech service bulletin that this engine has bad valve seals. This constitutes an engine rebuild or replacement. BMW put a new engine in my X5 under warranty. Since the engine change (2-years ago), I’m getting my first oil light 💡 again, saying it needs 2-quarts of oil. 🤷♀️
I bought a used 2012 x3 35i in march and had the oil changed when it was at 103k miles. The sticker my mechanic put for the next change is for 108k miles. I'm currently at around 105k miles. This message came on 2 days ago. This might be a dumb question, but should I still add a quart of oil?

M4 G82: took to dealership for routine maintenance including oil change. After over 30 min drive light went on says min engine oil level. Happened to me 2 times. First time light came on same day. Towed the car back to dealership and they filled it up. Second time light came on 2 days later. Added 2 quarts myself and measurement says just below max level. (Meaning there were approx 5 quarts left in there but the light went on) Confusing af.

I remove the oil, Had the car service again, refill new oil . Everything was ok after. If not check oil sensors. I’ve got drive train issues after fixing the oil .
I have a 2003 BMW 540 I went to Sam's Club and filled it up with gas about an hour later. My lifestyle blinking so I assume I had bad gas. So I probably got all the gas out and put new gas in. And the light did not go off. The light was blinking and still blinking. Now my car is telling me I have a low engine pressure. Please tell me what is actually going on with my car.
mine has both the sensor and a dipstick. One time it gave me the same warning so i checked the dipstick and the level was normal. I then manually started the oil level check on the computer and it also came out normal and the warning message dissapeared. Prior to all this the car was parked on decline (front facing downhill) for like 3 hours, maybe that was the cause.
My car was fine prior to doing my oil change. I changed oil today and put in 5 quart and said my oil is low. I check for any leak and I have none. It said Max earlier when driving now it changed. Honestly don’t know what I did wrong

Replaced the battery that was my 2013 X5 35i 3.0 that had been there for 8 years. About $350 with parts and labor.

Min max represents 1qt or liter. Not the entire quanity.

Before adding oil and damage your engine make sure that the filter support is in place not missing that’s might be your issue

Check your oil level sensor. Pretty common thing to go out on N55s. Don't put extra oil in the engine!

Bro I both a 335i activehybird3 today and soon has I got home the card said it needs 1 liter of oil 😢 I was so worried is it normal ?
Mine is popping up but when I just the level it says level ok maybe a bad sensor what say the people
And what do you think, what is the normal amount of kilometers to fill a litre of oil?
Engine oil color was on red , an I got an oli change like a month ago. An it’s leaking bad

I get this message like every 2000-3000 km on my 118d and I have no leaks, no blue smoke or anything… I changed the oil sensor as well

I have a 2003 BMW 540 I went to Sam's Club and filled it up with gas about an hour later. My lifestyle blinking so I assume I had bad gas. So I probably got all the gas out and put new gas in. And the light did not go off. The light was blinking and still blinking. Now my car is telling me I have a low engine pressure. Please tell me what is actually going on with my car.

mine has both the sensor and a dipstick. One time it gave me the same warning so i checked the dipstick and the level was normal. I then manually started the oil level check on the computer and it also came out normal and the warning message dissapeared. Prior to all this the car was parked on decline (front facing downhill) for like 3 hours, maybe that was the cause.

I wished I could install a dipstick. But I can't.

And what if your indicator is wrong?
I think at that point if you are not sure if its indicating right, i would take it to a local bmw dealer or shop that can help out 😁👍🏾
My car was fine prior to doing my oil change. I changed oil today and put in 5 quart and said my oil is low. I check for any leak and I have none. It said Max earlier when driving now it changed. Honestly don’t know what I did wrong
