Welcome to Geography Now! This is the first and only TH-cam Channel that actively attempts to cover profiles on every single country of the world. We are going to do them alphabetically so be patient if you are waiting for one that's down the road.

Stay cool Stay tuned and remember, this is Earth, your home. Learn about it.
The Marvel universe created an entire fictional domain known as the "Kingdom of Wakanda" ruled by T'Challa the Black Panther. What if Wakanda was real though? How could we break down the core attributes of the country's domain, landscape, culture and diplomacy? In this video I try my best to break it down. What do you think? ( Oh, and 10 points for every #Beetlegate2018 person creeping in to the comments of this video, just watch lol)

Geography Now ..
Hi
Geography Now, sorry for saying this twice, but is it too late to help you on the Lebanon episode (btw, we don’t really have a best friend, since it depends on the people groups)
in 2:19 you can see some dead meme speciment known as ugandan knuckles
hey I just had an idea, you should do a series called geography then, where you talk about countries that don't exist anymore like the roman empire, or the U.S.S.R. I dunno, just a thought
Excellent idea! But there are so many of former countries that it might be difficult to set them in alphabetical order
Maybe just countries that stopped existing in the last 100 years? Could be a bit easier to go through.
such a good idea!
I don't think he'd really have to do any order, just pick a few countries and maybe set up a voting system.
Yess Do Czechoslovakia
Watching this after Chadwick Boseman death RIP king 💔

John Doe I didn't realize that until you pointed that out😂😂. I'm sure he's gonna be somewhere in this new black panther movie.
Clorox Juice well yeah lol, he is in every single one of his movies.
Re-enlist Today! Fans even made a theory to why he's in every movie!!
Clorox Juice I didn't think a theory was needed. He owns Marvel, and can do whatever he wants.
But what's the theory?
I like this trip into pseudo-geography. Trying to figure out where fictional countries would be located in the world is neat. Something different to treat us with every now and then.

2:19 look! uganda 🇺🇬 knuckles!
Wakanda, as confirmed by the map in Civil War, is located between Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Kenya. AS for desert, you gotta ignore that and say that in MCU, it is green.
Also, their language is not just Bantu, but the movie used Xhosa, spoken in South Africa. So im guessing that it is a language closely related to Xhosa but got very separated, much like how Hungarian language is Finno-Ugric despite being in Central Europe.
Its looks like it located in between Rwanda and Uganda
Well it's not green if you look outside the sphere
Yeah but Mbaku also spoke in pidgin English from Nigeria when he challenged the king to be
I saw it at a cinema in Mbarara, Uganda and the atmosphere was phenomenal. People were so excited that a Hollywood movie showed something with their people group in focus. Also the fact that it showed the location of Wakanda as somewhere near Uganda, seemed to make them very proud of their country. So great to see Africa getting some credit in the movie business. Thanks for the heads up, Barbs. Geography Now is the best!
4:28, "if they still hold the ties to ancient Egypt" THANK YOU. The Cushitic language structure is very similar to the Ancient Egyptian, like 15-20% of our language has the same words and root words in Ancient Egyptian. The rest being 25-35% Arabic, and 50-60% pure Cushitic.
What about Coptic?
Coptic is the only egyptian family language
The copts are the like Northwest-African descendants of ancient Egyptians with very similar languages, they're genetically more related to other indigenous north africans like the amazigh and tuareg but further east. The Cushites on the other hand has less language similarities but more genetic similarities and more like the Northeast-African descendants of ancient Egyptians. Plus their are more Cushites than Copts, and have recorded historical ties with ancient Egypt. Read about the Land of Punt
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_of_Punt
+Mario Moreno you're right Coptic is linguistically very to ancient Egyptian, but Cushitic is the closest outside of the "Egyptian" language itself in the Afroasiatic sphere. Also the Cushites are more genetically related to ancient Egyptians and are historically recorded as being more connected.
Copts also lost their Ancient Egyptian culture, and culturally more resemble Arabs and other middle-eastern Christians. While Cushites on the other hand still have their ancient Egyptian culture, they still have very similar attire and dances to the Ancient Egyptians and some Cushitic people in eastern Ethiopia still believe in
Horus (egyptian) or Huur (Cushitic)
the sun God Ra or Qo'Ra in Cushit
Egyptian heaven Neter or Neder (Cushitic)
Egyptian spirit Ka or Kaah in Cushitic
and many many more examples
Culturally and Historically the Cushitic people are the most similar to ancient Egyptians today.

You know "upanga" means "sword" in Swahili and even "kanda" refers to "continent" so "wakanda" is probably "those from the contenental region [?]"
Also, 'kanda' (or 'kandam') means continent or a giant land mass in Thamizh, the South Indian language.
Well kanda in swahili is a side of something its like near place of something
Only Tamil? Sanskrit.
I love this guy coming from an African I'm tired of hearing bad things about Africa, finally something good and main stream

Excellent video, Barbs! It's always fascinating when people create fictional countries with a rich and complex history, and even as someone who's never been a big Marvel fan, it's been interesting to hear about Wakanda in this video. Good job, Barbs! :)
Great video! And your pronouciations are very good and confident. I've even seen a map online ofWakanka located somewhere between Nigeria, Niger and Chad, The Lake Turkana location seems to be the most plausible location to me,
2:20 Do you know da whey ... Love it Barbs
2:19 is the way
This was a really cool episode! It complimented geography and film nicely.
I can't wait to watch it!! I don't really go to movies office bc I'm so busy with school but I have to see this!

Hi beautiful... Thz is navin can u waste ur free time with me
Thank you soo much for doing this Barbie! I really appreciate the fun little Analysis of Wakanda. Your right it’s very rare to find good representations of Africa in media and love how your channel has done an amazing job of educating people to the many wonderful things about Africa, even if you don’t pronounce some of the names correctly lol.
*you're
Alex Laney you live in Africa?
It's because the American and Canadian media they don't like to show goods places outside the country especially concerning Africa, Asia or other parts of Europe and Latin America
정훈민준 what do you mean?
J Riibz Model Prime yes I am and have live in a few countries there.
Thanks for this video, this movie bout to be fire!!
Informative and direct... Thumbs up!!!
So, when you brought up Afro-Futurism, I felt compelled to research the term. I expected to find works of fiction and art movements. What I am pleasantly surprised that I found was references to the works of George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic. Thank you.
Look up Detroit techno (or early Techno) too, parts of it were built upon Afro-Futurism.
Janelle Monae's project album "Dirty Computer" is another good example of Afro-futurism making it to the mainstream.
@@mouhamed42 plz don't claim everyone balck be proud of you empire rather then stealing brown people or white people achievement. Be proud Mali empire,Ghana empire, Ashanti empire, empire of Ethiopia,Empire of Kush.

Awesome video!! Really like this idea where you examine fictional geographies as well :D
👍 GOOD JOB & BREAK DOWN. I LIKE HOW YOUR JUST KEEPING REAL. YOUR ABILITY TO BE CENTERED AND NEITHER RIGHT OR LEFT IS BRILLIANT.
2:18 focus on the uganda half of the screen
2:20 he had to add that in 😂
See you in Heaven Chadwick Boseman
Damn this is mindblowing! Thanks Barby!
Barby, thanks for doing this. I, too, used to read comics as a teenager, but stopped when I went to college. As a marvel-lite who focused on the X-Men, the other comics never really got my attention, but I love how the non-mutant relate heroes have gotten so much love. With that said, I appreciate your analysis on the fictionalized Wakanda, giving it light. I have to ask, will you be teaching at some point? Id take your class anyday man. Keep up the great work! Peace!
2:19 de way
Really enjoyed this video. It was cool seeing you take your knowledge & love of geography & applying it to a fictional place like Wakanda.
*Now that you've seen the movie & saw how Wakanda is portrayed, any follow up thoughts?*
I think he would probably change where he put it because it's not as green on the outside of the sphere
hey I just had an idea, you should do a series called geography then, where you talk about countries that don't exist anymore like the roman empire, or the U.S.S.R. I dunno, just a thought some genius commented this and i want it to happen

I watch your geography videos all time but subscribed after this. Peace bro
That was great, you deserve all the subscribers.
Will you also do other fictional Marvel nations? Such as the ones carved out from Romania, like Latveria. According to Marvel, I'm not a Romanian going to college in a Western city of my own country, but in the capital of Latveria.

Great video!!

Latveria next please.
Great video💯!
Thank you for the positivity! I’m subbing.
It seems the language is very bantu based. Im tanzanian so speak swahili. A bantu based arabic influenced language.
P.s. Taifa Ngao loosely means Nation of Shields. So makes sense that they're the defence force.
Any question bring them on! Btw, it seems to me that Azania = Tanzania and Wakanda being a city state is like the real life Buganda inside Uganda which is an autonomous monarchy, much like Wakanda
Subscribed, Thanx.
I needed this when making my shirt for location purposes. Wishes I saw this then as i made a guess to the eastern region but glad i saw it now. #subscribed.

I am a citizen of Wakanda. You got everything wrong.
It is 8:24 AM in my town - I woke up 27 minutes ago after dreaming - This video is 37 minutes old - I had a long dream so....You uploaded it while I was dreaming!!!
Great video. I liked the work that went in to finding a plausible place for the location of Wakanda, despite the maps placing it in between Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Sudan
love this video!!
So would you do Latveria next?
Is that you whistling at the end? Btw I love your vids, Ive watched every single one.
Great video, I just happened to click on your video and you blowed me away with the details.
I saw the Ugandan knuckles Easter egg!
I like how you put Uganda knuckles in there
love the video
OMG you did an AWESOME JOB WITH Wakanda!!!! I'm going to subscibe and follow you now.
2:19 notice that knuckle
Hey Barbie! Just a friendly geogratip. In the Swahili language there’s a difference between ng and ‘ng. Ng with no apostrophe is pronounced the was you pronounced Lupita’s surname in the video, while ng’ is pronounced more like the way you pronounced “Ngao” (without the hard g sound). Nyong’o then, is properly pronounced without any g sound. One of the pronunciational traps in a language with relatively few of them.
Wow, this is 4 years old. Where did time go?
Right
Hello Neighbour, I go the same cheapo North Hollywood Regency. Always enjoy you videos.
No one? okay... Ugandian Knuckles at 2:19
Pause at 2:20, and something really scary and disturbing will pop up
How do you know?
I saw nothing
Awesome Duck Coz only true africans know de wae.
I'm Kenyan and I'd tell you based on the accent from the black panther movie, the wakandan language is Bantu, plus considering the region (between unganda and DRC) it's definitely Bantu
It is a mixed of some African languages like the Swahili, Igbo etc
At the beginning of the movie when they show the ancient history and the vibranium meteor in ash design you can see it's between Rwanda (south), Uganda (west) and RDC (west)
Paul: hmmmm, where will I put Wakanda?
Knuckles: I will show you de wae
