I have a small living room with no entryway and the front door intersects the living/dining area. The sofa is currently placed right in the path of the entry to give the illusion of a larger living room. I’m going to play around with layout and furniture and focal point but the floors are a huge eye catcher as they are colored 19th century tile in orange/cream check. The dining area has a separate motif tile in a different color scheme. So I don’t think I would want to make the room too busy. I might put a neutral jute rug down that spans both rooms and rearrange the space so the dining and living areas are switched. But the kitchenette wall is where the dining table is. Hard to know what to do with this small space (in France). 🇫🇷

Sounds like you have great ideas, I would say maybe define the areas with rugs and not the same rug for your living room and dinning area. If you want rugs then get 2 one for living area and another for dining area. All the best with changing things around. 😊
