That was the biggest mic drop moment I think I've ever seen. I have not in my lifetime heard such honest eloquence. Chairman Cummings is a man that has clearly accumulated a wealth of wisdom over the years. He speaks as a man who has suffered, but from whom comes compassion, hope, and above all: love. Amidst some of the most powerful patriotism I've ever heard, I heard a man find purpose in the suffering of the penitent wrong-doer, and to, without saying so directly, he called upon us all, not just Michael Cohen, to make it right. To face our responsibility to our nation, to be better. There is a fragment of light, but it's hiding in the distance, as the lyric goes. There is always hope. It's on all of us to make this right, though.

I listen to this speech all the time. ALL THE TIME. Everytime politics get involved I think of this speech. I wish the entire country could hear this speech and take it to heart. I did not know the chairman personally, but at the time of his passing, I can only say it is incredibly melancholy to have lost one of our public servants. This speech is perhaps my favorite, and I think it is very telling of his character, something that is extremely admirable.

But after so many years of seeing how bad people can be, I am not sure we are better. -- I liked that Mr. Cummings said we should work to make our democracy better than the way we found it. I still hope we don't lose our democracy. Yet I see it being chipped away, and not only by Trump and his followers. -- Yet still, I want us to do better as a country, as a planet or species. I came here to watch this again after I watched Adam Schiff's closing arguments after the Fiona Hill/David Holmes impeachment hearings... because this was the speech that Schiff was referring to when he ended his piece, saying "in the words of my great colleague [Elijah Cummings]...'we are better than that!' "
I've seen this Cummings/Cohen video a handful of times now and each time it makes me cry. People are suffering because of cruelty, lies, and selfishness. And we feel that suffering and our collective hearts ache for the pain to stop because this darkness that we've been in for a while shouldn't be there. Not if you care about others and the light of the truth.
Cummings is saddened and angry too at how fall we have fallen. And it's clear he aches, too. But he also sees the hope in all of this... the healing that may come just around the corner (or even if it's miles and miles away). It's important we keep fighting for the good and against the bad...both externally AND internally... because each fight good wins puts us closer to that democracy and peace.

Boy, I know that fidgeting. When you have someone that cares expressing their concerns for your actions and it hits you like a brick. Cohen was choking back those brick-hit tears. I feel like he was truly remorseful. He lost everything and he is cooperating with the investigations. Just sucks what his family has to endure with direct hits from who you would assume to be adults: the president, his lawyer, and Republican congressmen. I just hope this adds to and pushes forward the investigations.
And he also did it on national television in front of the world. I hate when I do wrong and have to face people to make amends.
