      Cerriscapades Great video Chuck. Here in The Netherlands you can adopt a plant. There are many asylum plant houses, where you can go and get a plant just for free. Also all kind of acessories for the garden. I also donate for this kind of places. Plants that l don't want anymore or pots, soil. All what l think l am not going to use anymore, l bring there. . A few weeks ago l got a beautiful Aloe Cosmo from a asylum. I am looking to it right how. It is a very big one.

      That adopt a plant idea sounds awesome!

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How does it work? Do you just drop them off and they take care of them until someone else adopts? Any fees involved? I'm genuinely interested in knowing how it works!

      Cerriscapades I really can't find anyone in my state that does succulents. I'd love to try to sell. Not sure if there is just no market for it here or just no one dedicated enough. Hmmm... things to think about so again thanks:)

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have you tried interstate? I mean, surely you can sell it in online groups or buy and sell websites, then ship them over? I've sold quite a few this way.

    I get some of mine from botanical gardens. If you go towards evening, all the kids and clumsy ppl from the day have knocked loads of leaves off the plants. Not just succulents either. I just pick these off the floor and take them home, the staff usually don't care. I get tons of rare plants this way.

      Ahaha I thought I was the only one that did this.... and it's not called 'stealing' because we are just helping them 'clean up' a bit of the dead leaves ✌✌✌

    I got the mother load of plants today. And learned a great tip to share with you guys.
    Plants have sell by dates!
    I asked if they would take a few dollars off the 10$ tag on 2 plants marked sell by 2/19 (wow)
    The store manager said I could have for 2 $ each(she didn't even know they had dates!) So I grabbed every expired plant they had. Every one in awesome shape!!!
    So happy right now!! :D

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ohhh that's nifty! I don't think they explicitly indicate a "sell by" date here in my neck of the woods, but they do change the stock once in a while. I guess knowing when that happens is something one should figure out and take advantage of!

    • @MrsD0nofrio
      @MrsD0nofrio 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cerriscapades
      the company that makes the arrangements put the date on before shipping out. Really good idea. It's in tiny print on the small Barcode :) just had to share that info

    I went to a local garden centre the other week and the guy was watering the plants we started talking and he started taking clippings for me and I came away with loads to propagate , also I found a lovely seller on Etsy and bought 25 cuttings all sprouting or near and labelled so I’m really excited to see how things grow xx

    I got a few from my neighbours as they are more than happy to get rid of some cuttings, leaves when it's prune time. Same as me, I just put a box outside my yard to say free stuff and most of them are very thankful too!

    When I was in the store , I could find fallen leaves besides the plants and those looked perfect for growing a baby! So I just picked them up. It's not stealing, the leaves are seen as garbage so I saved them actually ;P

    Newbie Alert! I've been watching lots of TH-cam videos. I live in a rural area without a car. I'm shocked at the price of succulents online. Leave cuttings seems to be the cheapest way to go for me. By the time I by the soil, pearlite, gravel for top dressing, my wallet is thin.... thank you for sharing this video

    My endeavors at having a garden like yours is SO PAINFULLY SLOW 😭. I do everything you teach. You are my favorite teacher. If I was anywhere near Melbore you would have me camped on the space near the arc. Please hurry and put out the video and manuscript (I'm old school) on " how to be Chuck in one day or less". Thank you very much 😉.

      Honest Finance yeah I like working with other creators. Whether behind the scenes just sharing ideas/critiques, or actually creating collab videos like these.
      Not everyone in my niche seems receptive to the idea of working on a collab for various reasons (many think they are not ready). I think we are never ready so better just create the video anyway haha!

      I've become quite the succulent converter. I live in the US, but I'm going to try these tips back at home.

  • @TheNumberLast
    @TheNumberLast 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Step 1: Live in Australia. (Like this guy)
    Step 2: Offer to clean up/cut grass at older peoples houses. (keep out for the ones with lovely gardens).
    Step 3: Compliment and show big interest in said gardens/succulents and ask for the leaves that are falling off.
    PRO TIP: If you’re gutsy and charismatic enough to ask, ask to snap a bit off that’s well developed. Most people will say yes purely because they’re happy to spread the joy of growing plants.

    • @TheNumberLast
      @TheNumberLast 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      PS. I know it’s frowned upon by most people but Bunnings has succulents that are MASSIVELY OVERPRICED for what they are.
      Take a bit that isn’t too much but enough that’ll actually take root.
      IF YOU DONT LIKE DOING THAT I get it. Keep an eye on Bunnings though, I’ve bought plenty from there on a discount because they were dying/sad.
      Example: Got a $100 bonsai for like $20 because it was dying. Brought it back to life and is going strong.

    I live in Geelong and am always looking for more plants (often pitch leaves and rosets from people’s yards)

      You can check out Cerriscapades at facebook.com/cerriscapades. Right now I only have echeveria imbricata that I'm ready to let go. I haven't checked what else are ready though. I'll be doing another check sometime soon (I've got a few of you fellow Aussies me asking about this within the past couple of days), so give me a bit of time and I'll get back to you with a list of what I have. Otherwise I'll surely be having plants ready in Spring.

    I had a question on propagating and selling, mostly wanted to know how one would be able to identify the succulents that are patent. I know I read online that there are succulents that are patent so they say Do not propagate but I’ve bought succulents from Lowe’s, Home Depot, and a local seller and on all of them I haven’t seen anything that says something like that. I was just wondering, If I ever wanted to sell succulents that were propagated..I wouldn’t want to end up in trouble.

      Hi there. I'm not sure what the equivalent in your country is, but here in Australia we have this registry - www.ipaustralia.gov.au/plant-breeders-rights
      We can look up plant breeders rights (PBR) for a plant using the search functionality in that website.

      You shouldn’t pick directly from the plants. Just pick the ones that has fallen. He mentioned that it’s just plain wrong from doing so.

      I'm not sure I can help you there. I don't have any bikes, except maybe for the tiny balance bike I got for my son (and the red trike, shown in this video). I'm thinking of getting a road bike at some point though.

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha yeah, that's the downside to this route. I tend to do a lot of propagations so there's always something close to getting big enough every time.

    • @KaiAndrew
      @KaiAndrew 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Me too. I've been waiting a long time. Almost two whole days. ;) But seriously any idea how long until they start budding and growing roots?

    • @Cerriscapades
      @Cerriscapades  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience so far, rooting and sprouting plantlets can take as quick as 5 days and as long as several weeks, depending on the season. But actually getting them to grow to an inch can take months. After that initial push, and provided they have a strong roots system, the growth rate will start to pick up in their next growing season.
