I went with the Jet Falcon, but I am thinking about purchasing a Mod as well. I told one of my friends about the video, and I think the two most interesting aspects is how much the speaker really does color the tone of your amp - way more than I think most of us are aware of. Your "sound" is largely defined by the speaker you choose - maybe more than even the circuit. And this way more noticeable for distorted/overdriven sounds than for clean ones. I thought you did a great job demonstrating this. And again - THANK YOU.

That's exactly right! I've had a Jensen Falcon in my Ampeg GVT52 1x12 driving a 2x12 speaker cab also with Jensen Falcons for over 2 years now...total 70s heavy/hard rock all the way. This is the type of music I usually play so it works best for me.
This is one of the truly great youtube videos on product review - this guy nailed it. This was so good, Jensen should be hiring this guy for their marketing department. Even though they have sound clips on the website - this video does a much better job assessing of what sounds are coming from which speakers. Thanks!
sillennium That's a tough question - they all sound great, and what you think you like and don't like from a recording may actually change when you play in person. I'd have to say the Blackbird, Tornado and really like the vintage alnico at the end - but I really like the 'presence' of the vintage ceramic. They all have their place - maybe the better question is what do I like the least? I'd have to go with the Falcon. The vintage Alnico is like a perfect balance of the Blackbird and the vintage ceramic.
I like the tone of the neo mag very much, quite balanced and not harsh. The Alnicos all sound good and I was surprised at how nice the MOD series sounded too. Nice demo thanks!!

Can’t say enough about Jenson speakers... It’s a shame you didn’t play clean though, they clean up incredibly well and have a top chime that complements any older ac30 , Marshall or Fender. I used to use older Altecs and some of these come really close. I love em, and I don’t like sharing it with a lot of people either... don’t want people to know the secret of my tone. hehe 😜
Hey, thanks a lot for your very well produced shootout video(s). Nicely done! The Jensen Jet Tornado is a truely fantastic speaker and wins handsdown in this (and many other) comparisons for quality and breadth of sound! When i bought my first one to try out i had the apprehension that the neo mag might sound a bit harsh or hard, but none of that happened. A very well rounded speaker with punchy but defined bass, very nice, glassy highs that never get spikey or harsh (a la some ceramic mag speakers) and very defined, not overly present mids. It can do very convinving "fendery clean" and "british crunch" tones. And it's super lightweight in comparison to other speakers too, which is a nice plus. I now use two of 'em in a custom 2x12" cab. Makes a very lightweight cab that is able to handle an astonishing 200 watts and just kills! :-)=
Perfect timing for me to catch this excellent video! I have a tired speaker in my beloved 75 Silverface Deluxe Reverb, and up until now, most youtube videos were little help due to inconsistent testing procedures and/or poor sound quality. My choice: the P12N hits the mark for that perfect 'Fender' tone I'm looking for. Thanks!
I bought this cheesy little home made pine cab from a buddy for 50 bucks. It has the old version of the mod 12/70 (identical to the new ones but with a less cool sticker I believe). This cab just rules. I have a 1949 princeton, and I play it through this cab to preserve the orig speaker. I don't seem to like it so much in the demos I've watched, though.... maybe when it breaks in it sounds better? Great vid.

I like the 100w blackbirds and I’m thinking about a set for my twin reverb. I play tuned in A and really heavy with lots of fuzz so that’s why I like them. I do love the vintage style sound, they just aren’t for me.
Interesting tones. Really was looking for the Falcon(I already have 10 mod 35 and 12 mod 35's) Kinda muted but would be good in a mix. Tornado sounded pretty good and not back breaking!
second that! For me it is between alnico and the ceramic, i've put in C12Q's in a 4x12 and it sounds great. In the end i think i'll go with clarity before early breakup. still i'm not sure I'm going to use it for a 5E3 Deluxe clone. Thanks for this demo it saves us alot of time and money!
Thanks! This test helped me figure out why my cab sounds so crappy! I own the Jensen 12-70's.... but not for very much longer! They were the worst sounding of this bunch! No power or mids..... or bottom end!
@Lord Quilton, not sure how responsive it would be to the 50 Watt Venus Amp. I have never used that one. But you are correct this is a 30 watt Gibson Goldtone amp.
Kof Dabarber I have the tornado, and blackbird in a cab, and with my coreblade it puts out a bit more treble then the tornado. The tornado seems pretty balanced through treble, bass, mids, which makes it sound pretty smooth sounding when mic with a ES-57.
Alnico #1 Falcon #2 never liked the C12N owned one and hated it I now own the Falcon and very happy but it did take quite a while to break in. One day I tuned the amp on and it was ok where have you been hiding sweet tone.

Alvin s the most high wattage speaker is what you should look for. low watt speakers break up easier due to power sensitivity which means more break-up so thats why u should look into a high watt speaker. (speaker lets say 150w and up)
QUESTION my vintage 30 speakers are worn in my Mesa oversized 4x12 I've wanting to replace all four speakers with blackbirds. I've become obsessed with its tone but I wonder if it's a good idea. NEED HELP
a speaker with a thicker voicoil wire can handle more watts and thus create a stronger magnetic field, therefore the magnet has to be bigger/stronger also to keep the magnetic field and thus voicecoil movement balanced. for most speakers, higher powerhandling equals bigger magnet equals more low end. higher power handling does not equal higher volume, a bigger voicecoil is heavier and while being able to handle more watts at the same time adds more mass to the moving parts which makes it more difficult for the speaker to create volume out of the same input signal than a lower wattage speaker with a lighter voicecoil. this is generally speaking with many exceptions to it.

I have never heard about Vin30´s being worn out. Speakers lasts a lifetime, if they are not destroyed. Maybe you should check your powertubes.

That blackbird is the one. Lots of headroom and you can hit it with a high power marshall too

Did you watch this with a Bluetooth connection? When watching videos in my car using the Bluetooth they are slightly out of sync.
