My wife calling me a hero after I learned this DIY fix from your video. I used 1¼" inside diameter braided hose (as you suggested if you were to do it again), and used 3 zip ties per 2" length of hose for each spring column. Spent under $5 for that material. I tip my hat you, sir. Cheers!

I am a 60 year old woman and did this by myself. The hardest part was changing the razor blade in the knife! Thank you very much for the video.

2 yrs later this fix is still making a difference! My husband didn’t believe me that I could do it, and I bet him a new washer that we could lol I told him just to tilt the washer back and handled it myself from there! Lowe’s only had 3/4” tubing so I used 2 pieces and the zip ties instead of 1-1/4”. I also couldn’t get my hand in position to do the 4th one behind some black hose so I was only able to do 3 of them and even that much reinforcement of the springs helped tremendously. Thanks so much for this fix. I already wasted almost $200 on a repair guy that came out twice and did nothing except clear the code 🤦🏽‍♀️ thanks again!

Just found this and am so going to try this!
My repairman charged me over a 100 bucks to come diagnose my machine- which took him less than 10 min- and then said the repair was going to cost $350, he would order parts, etc. Nice guy, highly recommended, hood refs. so I said go ahead.
Then later told me the repair was going to be way more as the 4 'stabilizer rods' I need have jumped in price with Samsung to $120 EACH...TOTAL COST of parts/ labour= $595.00 (cndn)!
I was shocked- he seemed shocked as well- as my machine is only 6 yrs old!
My son works at Home Depot....
    Thank you for this!!

      Thanks in advance

Thanks for the video! I first purchased new suspension rods that were Samsung original replacements. They worked for a month and error came back. Did this fix on the replacement springs. Washer did better, however still had error frequently. Went back to take a look at the originals that I replaced. The original spring actually has thicker metal and larger diameter! Disappointed that I paid $100 for crappy replacement parts (triple checked to make sure that I got the correct part). Went back to originals and did this fix. Washer worked great for a couple of weeks then error appeared again. Took rods back out and used hose clamp on top of hose and zip tie on bottom. This setup finally worked! Has been error free for numerous loads of laundry.....bedding, towels, jeans, etc. Fingers crossed it holds up!

Hi Chris, thanks for your comments. Would you recommend two clamps, or the way you did with one clamp top, and one zip tie bottom? What dia. hose would you recommend? Thanks!

I've had many problems with my washing machine. I've tried drilling holes in the top water reservoir, tried stuffing pillows in the corners between the inner drum and the outer wall, and other 'fixes' on TH-cam, all to no avail. This worked perfectly for me! Thank you!

Same for me. Replaced pump, board, wiring harness, recall fix and foam pillow method. If this doesn't work, I'm getting a front load one.

  • @markyouneva7840

I've resolved a bunch of different issues with my Samsung washer over the years (replaced pump, replace control board, replaced dampers and in a foam pillow fix for the dc error which has worked going on to 2 years). I initially replaced 4 spring dampers to resolve the dc errors but that didn't help as the springs weakened very quickly. Don't ever let a repair person recommend doing that as the *only* solution. I would replace them if they have gotten really out of shape from many unbalanced loads that wrecked them, but *in addition* to replacing them, I would do something like this videos suggests, or use foam material or pool noodles around the outer drum spread out evenly. Be sure that the washer is sitting level. Finally, keep in mind that these aren't commercial washers, so for some people who want to wash 8 comforters at once, don't do that, and if you do wash heavy towels, comforters, small rugs, use the BEDDING wash cycle which avoids very high speed spins.

I did this around a week ago and so far so good. It's run roughly 5 loads without any issues. Thank you!
    3 tips for future fixers:
    1) Cut the hose in the hardware store. They already have the tools there so it's really easy. (I used 1 3/8 and it worked great)
    2) When placing the zip ties start the zip locking before you get into/under the machine. So essentially you are pulling a loose loop over the hose and then tightening. It allows you to focus more on the tightening and less on getting it zipped. It also allows you to work without needing to line up the zips in the machine. I found this especially helped for the 2 that were on top after turning over the machine.
    3) Some water came out of the drum when I turned it over. Have a couple towels and a bucket handy to soak it up.

Just did this fix on my machine last night and we ran several loads through, including some pretty heavy ones, with no problems today. Thanks for the video, it helped a bunch! I used 1-1/4" ID tubing like you mentioned in the video but it seemed like the tubes would be too loose on the springs so I ended up cutting slits down each one and cutting out a slice to make sure they would tighten snugly. Good luck to anyone else looking to try this!

We followed the video instructions, work like a charm. Did laundry for entire weekend with heavy load, and no DC code! Thank you

This worked very well for us for about 6 months or so, then the hose slipped down the springs (they have some kind of grease/lube on them) - I just added a few more zip ties, and it's back to working again...I can't wait to get a new washer, but until then, this fix is GENIUS!
(BTW, In addition to the d/c error/unbalance prob., I also had the pump housing issue where it cracked off - a whole washer tub of water poured through my ceiling into my office downstairs -tons of damage...turns out they didn't issue a recall, but they did have a repair kit to move the pump from the underside of the tub to the frame. They did fix the 'top flies off and could kill you issue' -maybe they only recall when it can kill you? Not so sure I'd ever, ever bu a Samsung washer again.)

I might be a rare person that comments long after doing this hack. Of course it worked when I did it, and for that I am grateful, but months later it started doing the same thing. I tried other things and am convinced it's a manufacturer flaw, especially considering the recall mess, how long I had this washer, and that it gets used every day. Point is: sometimes trying everything isn't enough and you gotta get a new machine. So don't be too hard on yourself if new springs, foam padding or replaced parts don't work out. That said, I love the video and thanks.

I purchase a used set of Samsung washer and dryer. They came with a 30 day warranty. Figuring as much as I wash any problem would rear its ugly head rather quickly. In the beginning I would occasionally get the "dc" error code. Well, after about 45 days the drum started bouncing around like two teenagers in the back seat of a car on a Saturday night. And I did what we all do when faced with a situation to spend money or not.........we go to TH-cam!!!! I found your video and you gave me hope. I have to admit to being skeptical that some thing so simple could correct this issue. I followed your instructions without deviation. Now to test! I was watching TV and forgot that the washer was on until the chimes for the end of cycle began. It is like Lee Majors in the Bionic man. "Better than before". (Ok, I just gave away my age range) Thank you for doing your own research and posting this video. Now I get to spend my weekend catching up my smelly laundry. Yippee!!

THIS WAS A GREAT SOLUTION AFTER USING HOSE CLAMPS! I was having this problem for several months, and it was getting progressively worse. I was considering a washer replacement before watching this video. It was a very easy fix. I used zip ties at first, but it would only solve the problem for a couple weeks before those rubber hose 'sleeves' would eventually slide to the bottom of the spring and the DC error would return. I tried it a couple more times with more zip ties, but go the same results. I then tried metal hose clamps. It has worked perfectly for 6 months now. And I have 3 teens, so it gets a ton of use. THANKS SO MUCH!!!

WOW! We were ready to give up on our 10-year-old Samsung washer because the DC code went from rare to occasional to every load to multiple times every load. I'm so glad I found this. The current price for the four suspension rods/springs would have been well over CAD$400 so I would have just gone with a new (NOT Samsung) washer instead. This low-cost fix has worked like a charm and was surprisingly easy. I wouldn't say five minutes, but it is not a stretch to say that it was an easy DIY job. Thank you cvsahara!!

I just had this issue with this exact washer. Samsung uses only specific repair companies. They are so busy you can be waiting a couple of weeks or more. I called only wanting to ask a few questions to see if what I thought was wrong , could be it. No call back! I wanted to ask about the springs. Your video helped me tremendously! Springs have been beefed up and 3 loads completed, no issues! Thank for sharing this !

Works great, thanks man! Better than new. I used 1-1/4" ID clear plastic tubing and bought a package of ten #20 metal hose clamps (3/4" - 1-3/4") from Lowes. Total cost was $13 because the hose clamps were $9. I turned the washer on its front to get to the bottom the same way that cvsaraha shows in the video. Really easy to do.

Thanks for the video, you saved us a new washing machine.. We called a repair man and charged us for the house visit and declared that the transmission was shot and it would cost $450 to repair no guarantee. He recommended that we get a new one. We saw your video and decided to give a try. We used 1 1/4 inside diameter plastic tube and metal hose clamps. We made the sleeves 3.5 inches and secured with one hose clamp. It works ! Thanks for tip. Woohoo !!

Just did this to our used (new to us) Samsung and it got us past the dc error! Definitely not gonna be a permanent fix for our's though, still shakes and bounces a lot before she gets the chance to even out. Thank you for the video though, it saved us for now.
I did want to say, to anyone reading, I didn't have the proper vinyl hose but some 1/2" I had laying around from a previous honey do worked. Cut it a good 3-4" long, split down one side and wrap it long ways (against the natural roll of the tubing). I did a zip tie on top and bottom and a small worm gear clamp in the middle. I was reading around today and supposedly Samsung sells a kit for $70 with better reinforced springs.
Update: Call Samsung and see if your model is covered under recall (you'll need to provide the serial #). Ours just so happened to be and they have fixed every issue the washer had (new springs, lid reinforcement kit, new thermistor, new wire harness and a new part for the water distribution after the valves). The recall adds a year of warranty to machine regardless of age and they treat it as if it was a new machine. Granted the tech doing the work had to follow protocol which meant 3 trips to get all the work done. As of today I am successfully washing full loads with zero issues and I have a one year warranty to boot!!

Samsung aqua-jet, called for the recall they gave me some numbers to give the repair person when they call to make the appointment. They said the will come out an repair the lid then, you’re under 1 warranty. Then they can come back out and fix the other issues. Woot!!

Just to give more info on this fix. I bought the 1 1/4 inside diameter hose, just like the one mentioned in the video. However, the hose was too wide to actually clamp on the spring. I cut a slit in the hose but the hose, after a few cycles slipped down to where it wasn't useful anymore. Also, I had 2" tall pieces cut.
My new fix was to cut the separate hose pieces at abut 4" and then cut about a 1/4" slit long ways down the 4" cut pieces. This way the hose will be able to clamp on the spring better. Also, the length will allow the tube to still be on the spring as it slips down. I'm having a hard time getting tools/hands in there to really tighten the zipties down.
Thank you for an awesome video!

I tried this to get rid of my dc problem. I used 1" ID transparent hose that I bought from a local hardware store. I also replaced side sponge padding from the top; since those were all torn away. Result: the first run was successful - completed a quick cycle with no dc error. Second time, I tried to stress test it and threw in bathroom floor rugs. This time the machine banged around making noise but no dc error. Instead of keeping the stress test, I manually stopped it before it gave me an error, because I got nervous that the hose parts will all loosen away. I will try washing again a few more times with regular clothes and update.
*updated next day: Tried with regular clothes, and the result was good! no dc error nor much vibration. Thanks for the video, cvsahara!

I did this and it fixed our washer. I used 1.5 tubing, cut at 1.5 inches long and two zip ties per tube. I placed the tubing right in the middle of the spring. I went through the top of the washer so I didn't have to tip it over (it is in a tight spot) Worked perfect! A two foot section of tubing at Menards was $6.

I'm going to try this tomorrow. I have already replaced the spring rods and recalibrated. Although the washing machine is more stable, I'm still getting some vibration once it gets to the last spin cycle. It then stops with the Ub code and wants to refill with water and start the rinse/spin cycle all over again. My Sumsung washing machine isn't even three years old. I'm really disappointed in this product. I contacted Samsung and they gave me a price of $379.99 to send someone out to repair it. When I said that's not happening, they offered to give me a discount a new washing machine. I asked the lady why would I purchase another Samsung if this one has only lasted me three years with this issue. She had nothing. Hopefully this will work for me. Thank you for posting and I will come back and update you all!

I was skeptical but the fixed worked great. No problems the last few weeks. FYI, if you responded to the Samsung "exploding washer" recall, the "fix"resulted in them bolting down the top of the washer, so you can't just pop the top up in the normal way. Have to take off two additional hard to reach bolts from the inside of the unit. But you can do this fix by accessing the springs as shown in video. Thanks cvsahara, much appreciated.

This worked for me, thank you! Using 1-1/4" ID clear plastic tubing, cut 1-3/4" long and zip ties. Put the washer on its front to access the bottom. Easy to do. Still working after 4 big loads, no vibration, it's solid. If it goes out of balance again I'll probably replace the zip ties with hose clamps.

For anyone still struggling with the DC error code with a top load but can’t get to the store to buy this stuff immediately, I have the stupidest temporary fix for you, instead of fixing from the bottom we can fix from the top. Fold some really sturdy cardboard like an accordion and put it between the part that doesn’t spin and the frame of your washer. It creates enough pressure from the top that your washer won’t slam around and your washer can complete the cycle. It’s ghetto as hell but it works as a temp fix until you can get to the store. ✌🏼

Thanks for this video - it saved me a bunch of money! I tried the 1 1/4 ID, but like others, had to trim about 1/4" off, so 1" ID is correct. I also initially used hose clamps, but reverted to zip ties after still having issues. I think it's easy to get the hose clamps too tight, but the zip ties work perfectly. Three loads in and zero issues! I'm convinced that Samsung appliances are just low quality. I've had issues with all of my Samsung appliances in less than five years of being new.

Dr. Jonathan Leung Yes, I initially made mine too tight as well, and continued to get the error. Just about a month ago however I went ahead and replaced the suspension springs because we were once again getting the error. Since I replaced the suspension springs/rods, it’s been perfect. You can get all four as a package on Amazon for about $50 and they are relatively easy to change.

@@nvonalven thanks. I'm actually going to try and redo the zip ties a bit looser first since I've got them on with me pulling them at a max. I've also got my threaded cord tubing a bit longer than in the vid so meyb I'll try and cut em down to about an inch and a half or so. Got some time today and it's laundry day so I'll test a load or two. If that doesn't work I'll order new rods as per your recommendation! Let you know how it goes.

Just like all the other comments, this fixed worked like a charm. i used the 1 inch inside diameter tube from Home Depot because the 1.25" was too big for my springs. Thanks a bunch for posting this video.

  • @CurtWaugh

This worked perfectly for me. THANK YOU! You're the real hero.
    Notes:
    - My Home Depot had 1 1/4" inside diameter. The pipe sides were much thicker than the 1", so I went with that. (This video is a lie. My pipe was just over 6 bucks. ;-)
    - I went with 2" pieces. To make nice flat pipe ends, I cut them with a hacksaw. I used a utility knife for the vertical slices. Very easy.
    - The pipe was slightly too large in diameter to pinch down in place. I ended up slicing about a 3/16" sliver out of each. Worked PERFECTLY.
    - I used three ties on each pipe for extra hold.

Was only able to grab the 1” threaded vinyl tubing at the Lowe’s near me, but followed your steps and sure enough this did the trick. :)
I tried reinforcing the entire drum with padding on all sides first, as it worked for some others, but that mostly resulted in the entire washer trying to hop away, lol.
I’ll probably still reach out to Samsung to see if they can send a tech out through the recall on this unit for the issue, but this definitely saved me a week or more of frustration.
    Thanks again!

Thank you brother! Our samsung top loader was throwing that DC code constantly. The rods for this one are $80 something. I used some black plastic water tubing I had laying around the farm from a recent well replacement. I cut 4 pieces about 3 inches long and split them and removed about 1/2" strip from them. Slipped them on and secured them with 3 zipties each. Problem solved! Not really sure why this works but it definitely does! Cost me nothing but time! Thanks again

I just performed this modification and three loads of wash later things are looking good. my resources were limited so i used two overlapping pieces of 3/4 ID hose and one zip tie each. The first load of wash was four towels and an entire basket of assorted clothes. Full speed spin and i got a successful wash. After that i washed a comforter and then another. For the comforters i select the bedding cycle. I performed the fix using the top-down method because my washer is sharing a tiny wash room with a dryer and bottom -up wasn't possible in those tight confines.
Cannot even tell you how many times i had to interrupt the wash cycles due to incomplete spin cycles, easily a couple hundred or more. I don't expect that my work with be the last time i have to do this but i do know that it works and that i will be able to do a better job next time. One important thing to note. The support rods had a very thick sticky substance on the connection points and i suspect it had something to do with the "class action repair" performed on the machine a couple years ago. That repair was paid for by Samsung due to a lawsuit against Samsung because the machines had a likelihood of "exploding" during the spin cycle. My guess is that the thick sticky substance was a form of adhesive that was put into place in order to keep the rods from hopping out of their support brackets due to an unbalanced load. So if you encounter this thick sticky goop, my advice to you would be to not disturb or remove this stuff best you can. While i was able to put into place the new template for the various cycles, Samsung still had to have a technician come out to perform some further work that i was not able to observe, but i can assure you the thick substance was not mere grease as it felt like a mixture of both grease and glue from a rat trap.
    Thank you for the help.

This works! The only difference on mine is that my springs already had that black plastic piece on them. It must have been a later model Samsung that they put the upgraded spring mechanism in. However, i used 1 1/4 inch inside diameter plastic tubing like he suggested and cut four pieces at an inch and 1/8 long and fastened them to the bottom of the spring underneath the black plastic piece with a small hose clamp. $10 total parts. I’ve run several loads of blankets, towels, and regular clothing since with no error codes nor shutting off prematurely. I chose to use hose clamps instead because I was afraid of the zip ties breaking after a while.

But I applied this fix after the replacement springs wore out again and it has worked like a charm! I don't even care if I have to do it all over again in a few months or years as it took less than an hour and I have enough tubing left for at least 2 more repairs :)

I was going to try your idea with a 1 3/8 braided hose when I notice the only thing keeping the rod assebly together was one end was smashed. I took two hammers so I could lay the smashed end on one hammer and pound the end to get it round again and small enough to slip every thing off the rod I used gloves since the rods and spring is greasy. I put the tubing in a glass measuring cup with water and microwaved the tubing for 3 minutes to get it soft enough to work it over the spring; If you can find the 1 1/2 tubing it should go over.without heating. I just put everything together and smashed to end so it don't come apart. I don't have to worry about the zip ties breaking. Thanks for sharing your idea.

You didn’t even need to do that, just double stretch the springs so when a heavy load of laundry compresses them it doesn’t bottom out.

Thank you for doing the video on this fix. I performed this fix two weeks ago and everything has been working great since then. I bought the 1.25" ID tubing but ended up slicing out probably a little more than an eighth of an inch so as to leave room for the zip ties to squeeze the spring. The whole thing works great. If I was going to fix it again I might even just try sliding the 1.25 inch inner diameter tubing right over the spring and see how that goes. OR I might also just buy the 1 inch ID tubing, slice then zip tie. Either way, weak springs really seemed to be what the problem was. Thanks again for doing the video cvsahara.

My repair was closer to $113 - here's why: Having this exact error and it looks like the exact same washer, I ordered replacement suspension rods, but was surprised when it didn't fix the error. I tried this fix in the video, and it did not work for me exactly as shown here - I had to do two things, and I'm not sure which one actually fixed the error. For reference, I cut the pipes to 1.25" and then split them vertically as shown in the video. I was not able to get the zipties tight enough to make a difference (still got the DC code), even using a pair of pliers to tighten as much as possible. They would still slip around and slide toward the bottom of the spring. Someone else mentioned it in a comment, so I used 2 #20 stainless hose clamps (Lowes Item #1436436) and that held it in place adequately. At the same time I replaced the zipties, I replaced the vibration sensor (part number DC93-00278B for my specific dryer). I did it all at once, since my goal was to fix the error - not definitively determine which was causing the error. I actually suspect it was the vibration sensor since the suspension rods were brand new. One important thing to note - this piece of flex pipe has been discontinued at my Home Depot - (Internet # 303209686) but thankfully I was able to find one with the help of a store associate. Lowes didn't have a comparable item to the hose.. My cost breakdown: Suspension Rods $51; Vibration Sensor $33; Vinyl braided pipe $9; Hose clamp 10 pack $20.

It worked! (So far so good.) A couple points: the smallest length of tube at Home Depot was 2 feet of 1 3/8 OD and 1 in ID that cost $5.50. Otherwise it would have been longer and more expensive. I had to use a bread knife to cut the lengths tube was too bouncy but the exact-o knife worked for splitting them standing up. I pulled on the spring-rod and it came out! OUCH! Luckily my partner fixed it. I played fast & loose on the measurements and how tight to use the zip ties and it seems OK. Got my hands quite greasy from the lube on the springs. There is residual water in the thing when you tilt it on its side.
