Glad you posted this. I've spent hours trying to pull pick my Abus lock because I've forgot my combo following other videos. Now I know why I failed. It's an ingenious design.
the sloppy fit between the inner and outer wheel is brilliant. it not only makes it harder to pick but cheaper as well! i hope whoever came up with that got a raise.

I had to open my Abus combo lock last night! Annoying thing to manipulate alright. In the end I did it by distance the core was coming out. When you get a very heavy binder, you can tell when you hit the real/false gates but telling them apart is a pain too.

Have had this type of lock, and the problem is that the code "slips", so one day it's 1234 and the next day, it's 1235.. which is pretty annoying, since the point of a code lock for me is to share with friends. Seeing your explanation, I would think it's the division between the "inner" and "outer" wheels that you explain. Thanks!
Yes, from some of the combination locks I've heard that an "automatic" code change has occurred (different types and brands) - really annoying. Great to read that my video gave a bit of inside info.
So an accidental brute force attack opened it...it looks half descent, especially for a combo lock. Maybe,1 or 2 extra wheels and they would've fixed that. The chain was probably correctly sized for that type of lock and security. Still impressive to beat your intentional cracking skills! 👍🙃
Thanks. Core-wise this lock is very good. Probably the best you can get out of this mechanism. I'm trying to improve my skills but it's very much depending on the day and my feelings, if I can "understand" a lock. Maybe only pure luck ;-)

If yes, can you make a video and show it to us? But to answer your question. Yes, there are these bumps which makes it very hard to feel the gate as they cause a constant movement on the bolt when turning the wheel.

If you cannot turn away from the number you have hit a true or false gate. Continue with another wheel. Then after all wheels are set to such a number test the looseness of the gate to distinguish false from true gates. Loose equals true gate.
Jetzt habe ich ein anderes solches Schloss auf der Straße gefunden und damit rum gespielt. Mit einfachem Ziehen und Drehen geht es erst mal nicht. So wie im Video ja beschrieben, ist es dagegen offensichtlich gesichert. Alle Zahlen sperren ziemlich, wenn man am Schloss zieht und ich konnte keine Zahl fühlen, die etwas mehr Spiel hätte als die anderen (mag an meinem Gefühl liegen). Daher habe ich einfach angefangen, die Zahlen auszuprobieren und bin bald auf eine Kombination gestossen, die die letzte Zahl blockiert hatte, wenn man daran zog. Regelrecht blockiert, wenn man ein bisschen schon zieht. Dies geschah bei der Kombination 0-2-4-6 (die 0 ist bei dem Schloss nur ein Punkt, keine Zahl) und die 6 ließ sich dann bei geringem Zug schon nicht mehr drehen. Also muss die 6 richtig sein, dachte ich mir und habe von dort aus weiter probiert, also die 6 stehen gelassen, was die Kombinationen ja erheblich reduziert. Ich musste nun nur noch die ersten 3 durchprobieren. Siehe da, aber es war auch Glück, sehr schnell kam ich auf eine weitere blockierende Zahl, nämlich die 2. Zahl, die war eine 1. Von da an waren es nur noch ein paar Sekunden und ich kam auf die Lösung: 0-1-0-6 Ich hatte bald noch gedacht, ich fange besser bei der 1 an, weil niemand diesen komischen Punkt verwenden würde (dachte ich), aber ich habe es doch ab der 0 probiert, was sich gelohnt hatte :) Fazit: Eine Mischung aus sturem Probieren und etwas Gefühl bringt die Lösung, dauert halt etwas. Sobald eine Zahl bei wenig Zug richtig blockiert, stimmt sie anscheinend.
Ja ich hatte mittlerweise auch schon einige male das Schloss offen. Aber kann es nicht zuverlässig öffnen. Ist viel Grlück dabei oder die eigene Tagesform. Don't worry, as soon as the bike room is filled up to the ceiling with 70% of junk you will eventually have that feeling of being annoyed. It can be true that this is a locally limited problem but the reason obviously is in many countries people don't even know what a bicycle is and they often own their houses themselves thus keeping them tidy. I found a Abus combo lock (model in the below link) a couple of days ago and been trying to open it using your instructions. I am not able to put the lock under tention and turn the wheels (they become very stiff). Have also tried to listen to the sound of each wheel as i change each number but no luck there either ! Really? Why? I showed how difficult if is to decode this lock because of the built-in mechanism. Anyhow, thieves rather cut your chain with a big bolt cutter than fiddling with the combination dials.
@@Potti314 I don't know if there's video, but I bought 2 of them cheap without codes, and took me 20 minutes to open them both, first 15 minutes second one 5 minutes. If you pull all digit rings from right to left with your left hand and you wobble with your right hand lock part you can see if there is no wobble on the first ring when it is in right position. And operation is repeated for other rings
Haha - funny comment . But it let me rethink about the combination. Usually people use numbers they can remember. This combination was 0682 - maybe I should look out for someone born in June 1982 ;-)

The so called "order" in these countries is even more important to some people than to respect real laws. Housekeepers tend to make their own laws and to feel like little kings. Now, anything material that belongs to someone, is under his ownership as long as this person declares this by speaking or doing. As long as this person declares its will to own the thing. All persons have the same rights, besides the police who has the monopoly of power. So no other person is allowed to make decisions about the ownership of the ownership on somebody else's good. The ownership also doesn't depend on the place where your object is: Your bicycle being in a foreign house is still your bicycle! Your car parked on a public street is still your car. So when the housekeeper gives away things of other people, and even applies big violence to do so, he's a criminal. Imagine someone steals your bike and then parks it in a house where a stupid housekeeper like yours is working. The bike is still yours, it is not the bike of the thief! Then, without knowing (you don't know where your bike is but you have announced the theft to the police), the housekeeper gives your bike away. He has destroyed your belonging. By the way, four weeks is too short. The housekeeper must always go to the police, it is not under the rights a housekeeper to decide on others belongings!
Thank you for the elaborate thoughts. I'm on your side and my understanding of it is exactly the same. But I have experienced that what I believe is according to laws is sometimes not the way the law is. And sometimes it's absurd what judicature brings out. So this just makes me unsure if my understanding of what's right or wrong about "our" topic is correct. This and the fact that it seems common practice and I have never heard of problems in this area. One other interesting example: Love-locks. Whom do they belong to if attached on a public bridge? Sometimes these locks are removed for multiple reasons by order of the commune. Is it legal to throw them away after removal? I don't know the answer ;-)

Thank you for your criticism. I know that the issue you mentioned is one of my weaknesses and I try to work on it. Some of my videos are slow and you see and hear me thinking. Some like that (especially lock sport enthusiasts), some don't. But I disagree that the content of the video is "almost nothing".

+LOST FOUND I tried it and somehow it must have worked as it was open at the end but the differences in the feel are very subtle.

Can you turn the wheels slightly left/right from their stuck position? Move to another number for those that feel particularly stiff.

I wonder if we really have so many criminal housekeepers - where did you get the information from that it's illegal? To me it makes sense that it is against the law, but you never know if you aren't a lawyer ;-)
+Potti314 It is typical for countries like Germany to call themselves "ecological" on one hand and to throw away everithing very soon in real life. The so called "order" in these countries is even more important to some people than to respect real laws. Housekeepers tend to make their own laws and to feel like little kings.
Now, anything material that belongs to someone, is under his ownership as long as this person declares this by speaking or doing. As long as this person declares its will to own the thing. All persons have the same rights, besides the police who has the monopoly of power. So no other person is allowed to make decisions about the ownership of the ownership on somebody else's good. The ownership also doesn't depend on the place where your object is: Your bicycle being in a foreign house is still your bicycle! Your car parked on a public street is still your car. So when the housekeeper gives away things of other people, and even applies big violence to do so, he's a criminal. Imagine someone steals your bike and then parks it in a house where a stupid housekeeper like yours is working. The bike is still yours, it is not the bike of the thief! Then, without knowing (you don't know where your bike is but you have announced the theft to the police), the housekeeper gives your bike away. He has destroyed your belonging. By the way, four weeks is too short. The housekeeper must always go to the police, it is not under the rights a housekeeper to decide on others belongings!
Thank you for the elaborate thoughts. I'm on your side and my understanding of it is exactly the same. But I have experienced that what I believe is according to laws is sometimes not the way the law is. And sometimes it's absurd what judicature brings out. So this just makes me unsure if my understanding of what's right or wrong about "our" topic is correct. This and the fact that it seems common practice and I have never heard of problems in this area.
One other interesting example: Love-locks. Whom do they belong to if attached on a public bridge? Sometimes these locks are removed for multiple reasons by order of the commune. Is it legal to throw them away after removal? I don't know the answer ;-)

Thank you for your criticism. I know that the issue you mentioned is one of my weaknesses and I try to work on it. Some of my videos are slow and you see and hear me thinking. Some like that (especially lock sport enthusiasts), some don't. But I disagree that the content of the video is "almost nothing".
