    I am the original owner of the rare 2015 rear wheel drive R model. 24k miles, garage kept, never tracked or abused, fully loaded with every option. Lately the value seems to be going up. I thought about selling, but every time I start it and the exhaust reverberates in my garage I just smile and take it out for a drive…. It’s one of a kind in my opinion.

    Really great statistical analysis. I love graphs and are you able to share the 3D plot ? In 2019, I purchased a 2016 F Type R, so it was 3 years old at the time and I paid around 50% what the cost of that spec - new would have been. I estimate in the 3 years I"ve had it, it depreciated by a further 11.5% overall (not year on year). In what context though are you making these videos. Are you conisdering these cars as daily drives in which case depreciation is a factor as this assumes it has practical value ? What if these cars are bought merely as "toys" - no real use ie. you're not gonna drive it to work everyday. In that case, technically, your depreciation can be regarded as infinite as it really is a toy. I know that the 911 is one of the lowest depreciating sports cars and Ferrari actually appreciates. But POrshce is common and Ferrari costs 7x what the others do. A 1989 Ferrari Testarossa actually appreciates in line with inflation. That would make a good video, why do Ferraris appreciate ?

      @@rogerdodger8415 Definitely something to look out for. I think I recall Savage Geese's channel covered that if anyone is looking for more information. Knowing it made me focus on west coast cars. My F Type showed no rust but I think the parts that TATA did not coat correctly are generally easy to disassemble and properly protect as long as rust has not already compromised them. I don't recall it being "a lot" of uncoated steel but I could be wrong as it is not an issue on my Jag.

      ...but yeah only the heart was involved in my case! 😁

  • @Uncle19
    @Uncle19 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you done an analysis considering change in MSRP? For example google says 2020 F Type R MSRP = 103,325 and 2019 F Type R MSRP = 100,750. So approximately $3k worth of the curve is only attributable to a change in MSRP and not depreciation itself. So a 17% decrease may be reduced by approximately 3% here.
    I'd like to see your price depreciation curve as a delta from original MSRP. So to see that a 2016 is current average price of 50,000 vs 75,000 MSRP would show a -25,000 value. This should be proportional to price but give a better picture of what the car lost over time vs other extraneous factors (especially considering today's volatile market).

    F-Types with low miles are already breaking into the $100Ks, with the top end F-Type, the P7, pushing $300K, making them not only low depreciation, but profitable to buy.

      While obvious few one want an electric car in their current incarnation, why do you attribute skyrocketing F-Type values to anything but being a sports car (hint: there are no other sports cars being made) that is very low in supply. Have you ever heard of supply and demand setting prices?
      Understanding the cars you analyze, to the same extent or better than the actual buyers and sellers, is the first step in a solid market analysis. That means you need to understand every difference from MY to MY and how an actual owner values each one. You have to understand the history of the product, and why each and every major design decision was made. Jaguar was very careful to produce a purebred sports car, which is why they released all convertibles the first MY and the purebred P7 F-Type version before any coupes. Its a car for people who understand what a sports car is, and you clearly don't, which is why you've been so wrong in your analysis and predictions to date.

    • @fourwheeltrader
      @fourwheeltrader  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skyrocketing values has nothing to do with the f-type being a sports car. As explained, it results from demand and supply which are currently driven by the same factors across the industry. Naturally, the predictions in the previous f-type video are not in line with reality. Car prices increased at a rate which we haven't seen since a long time (if ever). Under normal market conditions where cars are depreciating the predictions are quite decent. There is enough evidence of that on the channel.

    • @FFE-js2zp
      @FFE-js2zp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fourwheeltrader
      There is no such thing as an abnormal market condition. Markets always ebb and flow. Many of us bought F-Types at a low point because we understood why others are willing to pay $300K for an iconic P7 version which is virtually identical to a standard V8 convertible, through convertible soft tops may not "technically" count as a sports car, since hard core sports car design requires no top. Jag obviously is catering to pure bred lovers, only, which is why they released the F in the phases required to establish it, unquestionably as a sports car (no top design) and a GT (no top followed by a hard top). You can't just barge into a party and start yapping and expect to understand the financial underpinnings of what the group values, and why they may bid an object up or down.

    • @fourwheeltrader
      @fourwheeltrader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think we will come to an agreement here, but that's fine. Statistically there are plenty of ways to define abnormality in a car market. Yet, common sense comes a long way; Cars like the ftype are normally depreciating assets while they are currently doing the opposite, they are appreciating. The definition of abnormality is 'deviating from what's normal'. So based on that i classify the current market as abnormal. Regarding ftype prices: Data shows that the older f-types were bottoming a while ago. This makes sense given the age of the car. Data also shows that prices increased during the last period, just as they did for all the other cars. Hence, given the timing of the increase, i think it's more likely that the driving forces are the same as for the other cars and are not the unique characteristics of the ftype.

      I have also had cars that doubled in years but that is not typical for cars. If you are going to say you have had cars that double in years, then you need to compare that to the stocks that have grown the fastest. Someone that invested in Amazon early on can say “I’ve had stocks that went up 5000% in years.” I like fun cars and have had all kinds of sports cars. Nothing wrong with buying them but they aren’t investments.

    I have a feeling this guy needs to revisit this video in todays market.. I know a couple guys who actually have come out in the positive after driving the car for a few years thanks to the low amount of new vehicles for sale.
