Thank you for the video! There are a few things I'd recommend changing or mentioning though. First is that you REALLY want to replace the stock sd card. RC video reviews did a great video on how to format it. You want 4gb or less partition and a specific block size. This will drastically improve user interface performance. Next is that I always recommend getting the 4in1 internal module and getting the elrs external module. This allows you to use pretty much any receiver on the market, Spektrum, Futaba, FrSky, etc. It also allows you to use the internal module as a receiver for wireless buddy box. The external modules are also generally more powerful and offer Gemini for better reliability. These things will give you many more options in the future.
I think the internal/external module debate is really just a matter of - do you primarily fly Line of Sight (LoS) or First Person View (FPV). Realistically, for fixed wing and heli guys like myself - we only really fly LoS, so an internal ELRS module is a much more convenient and better option. For anyone who can take advantage of the extra transmitter power (over 250mW), sure - an external ELRS module might be a better option.
Nice job guys!! This is goinig to help a BUNCH of folks get into this system!! I've been using it now for about 6 months and there are still things that I am learning!! I'll be watching this series closely for valuable pointers!! Thanks for doing this!!
Video Request: Tuning and Advanced tuning in flight and blackbox... PID's/other - what you look for/what maneuver to stress the heli to tune specific parameters.
It is not simple to learn EdgeTX . I started with OpenTX , non graphical LCD radio. It took me couple day to figure it out . There are many online videos on how to set up helicopters. Learning the mixes and logical switches is important.
@bertkammerer One thing to note that is not called out. For drones or helicopters that use Flight Controllers the general consensus is to turn ADC Filter Off, you can do this Globally if you don't fly planes/fixed wings, or per model. This reduces latency/delay from the sticks to the flight controller. "ADC Filter - Enables or disables the ADC Filter. This filter can also be enabled/disabled per model in the model settings. The ADC filter is a filter for the proportional channels (sticks, pots, sliders), smoothing out smaller fast movements that occur due to noise in the system electronics. Normally, this filter should be disabled for models with flight controllers. "
Good point, way too much to think and talk about. This is what makes this so complex. Ultimately people need to do a lot of research and figure things out over time.
Forward programming works with a module also- I run an elrs module with my taranis x7. But next week my tx16s comes this is SO cool to see this video. It just runs off a lua script in the tools called Rotorflight 2.
A good practice for new users, after flashing the latest EdgeTx firmware on your transmitter is to also update your ELRS module's version, be it internal or external module, to the latest version as well as your RP3-H receiver or Flydragon internal receiver's ELRS version.
The internal elrs module is only 250w. Which is good enough for most. I ended up with a nomad module for 45 bucks. Its awesome, and its 2.4, 900 and cross band, so it covers all those. Id have gotten the 4in1 and then a module for elrs.
When you calibrated your gimbal and sliders you need to also push the 6 buttons individually. The hardware is setup in a way that it thinks those are all 1 analog input.
EdgeTX/OpenTX you can do Throttle hold, Flight mode switching at least 3 or 4 different ways. Jonas from OMP does everything in the mixing page, Jeff West does it in the input page. There is also Flight Mode page which neither of them use. That is the power of EdgeTX allowing multiple ways of doing things including to use throttle curves or use a fixed value for the throttle setting based on what switch position you choose.
No, The way the radios come setup, the momentary switch is on the right and 2 position switch is on the left. I always use throttle hold 2 position switch on the right since I have been flying helis. So I had to desolder the switches to switch them to the side I want.
@@zmanphxgood point, I come from vBar control, which also has a momentary switch there and it doesn’t bother me as I’m used to using it to cut the engine off in my nitros. I use the shorter switch for throttle hold. That’s how the original Spektrum radios were as well as the VControl. Indeed you can move the switch, I believe John from @rcvideoreviews did that.
hi guys, im not so good at this, i have a radiomaster t16s max elrs. i have been setup plane and flew with this radio and this is okay, but not so good to setup helikopter with nexus. have anyone a setup file for a 600 electric heli. if i can put the file in the radio so i can understand how they are doing it. please. thanks
Make sure the radio has an SD card inserted at the bottom. You might need to ask in discord. I have never seen that error. You can join rcvideoreviews channel in discord. There is a lot of knowledge there.
I restarted the websight and it worked. I watched the other video you posted and got my radio all set up . I’m on to rotor flight . Thanks Bert. Seems not to bad once you do it a few times.

Great introduction to the world of open source and Radiomaster equipment 🤘🏻

We hope we can do this one day, but our schedules are extremely busy, took me 10 hours to just do this one video lol
Awsome,I was wait in on this moment that some one took time and explain the setup on this radio..Thanks
More to come!
It took me 11 hours to really learn this radio with much frustration. I didn't cheap out tho. I bought the Max simulated carbon edition

Indeed. I wanted to keep this as short and easy as possible for now.
Binding phrases are super cool and easy (once you understand the concept)!
We're doing a video about that too.

Good point. Should be in the middle button when you start. Most heli pilots don’t use and will never use those though 😂
Is there anyway you could do a video on assigning switches ? Making 3 bank switches and an arm switch and throttle hold with bailout switch .
That’s what the next video is about.
@ awesome ! Thank you

Hey Bert, is there a Heli version and a different version for airplanes for the TX16s?

Stay tuned for more. We’re doing more videos and posting them slowly very soon.
It says could not connect to DFU interface. Error: Device does not have any USB DFU interfaces

I had thr same issue come up. trying it again on my wife's laptop.
