    Yep. Happened to me as well. 10 year old toilet. The gray foam donut seal between pedestal and bowl was not happy. The nylon grommet nuts are shot and the 4 long bolts were really rusted. Bought new larger 1/4” SS x 2 1/2” bolts but they would not grip the nylon inserts. Called Dometic company and spoke to a very nice lady, who contacted some sort of engineering or technical services group to see if they could supply me with 4 new nylon inserts. After a few conversations between her and the technical group with my insistence that they should be available, the answer was clearly NO we do not supply new nylon inserts. So basically, instead of replacing The round foamy gasket for a few dollars, and the nylon inserts, which shouldn’t cost more than a few dollars, I need to replace the whole stinking toilet. Unfortunately the 320 toilet is 1/2 inch too long to fit. This really stinks, literally.

    • @PilotCooking
      @PilotCooking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well..... Sounds like a tough one. YOu really have to check the installation manual and clearances. I know there are three different depths of toilets based on the discharge flange. There are other manufacturers to look at as well that might have what you want.

      Yep - And dont have to wait for the repair department to messup other parts of your RV. It took me a couple of hours but I was really investigating what had happened. The job all in total would take me 30 mins or so. Just wear gloves and then change them after getting glue on them. Wash and dry the foam rubber seal.

    Just get the 310 porcelain. I had the plastic 300 and got rid of it before I started having problems. I had the 310 in my Coleman before I traded for a bigger camper. And saw this in my new camper. Actually it's a 2021 wildwood and immediately changed it. You can interchange the valve system so I kept the plastic one for parts.

    And four years later.... still defective. The toilet in my 2021 Grand Design Reflection 278BH showed signs of leaking twice. The first time, about 6 months ago, I tightened up the two base nuts and it stopped leaking (or at least the water on the floor). Just noticed again today, tightened up the nuts a little bit more.. but after seeing this video. I had better take it apart and inspect.

    We have a Dometic 320 model and it was purchased in 2021. It's been smelling like that since we install it. I won't ever buy another Dometic nor will I recommend Dometic toilets for this reason. They should stand by their product and recall the toilets or make a design fix for the existing toilets out there.

    I just called Dometic regarding my 310, representative said even due they are aware of the problem, they never admitted to it, she looked up the serial number, said the manufacturing date is more than 2 years old therefore she can not help unless i email proof rv was purchased less than 2 years ago and i am the original owner. she also told me that to her knowledge no design change has been implemented since 2010, and they still receive calls regarding this issue with new less than 2 years old units and send replacements. Maybe we should sue them?

    • @PilotCooking
      @PilotCooking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately the RV industry is a bit lackluster. Of all the RV is that I have purchased in the past I have had pretty good luck for the most part. But I will say this. My initial walk-through of the RV is very picky and everything must be fixed before I leave the dealer. I never will accept a unit with issues. I do have to say that my experience has always been with travel trailers and fifth wheels. I have never taken possession of a motorhome or class c unit. Domatic as a company has gone downhill. I've had multiple issues with equipment installed in my RV. Just recently we lost the refrigerator about two months out of warranty. After investigating this further it appears that the refrigerator core was made from cheap steel and rotted out. I have always employed the technique of keeping the refrigerator going and never storing it. This keeps the core warm and usually increases the longevity. So we had to spend $1000 on a Furion electric refrigerator and trim kit. We had issues with our water heater as well that is a Dometic. If I were not a do it yourselfer...... I tell you.

      Possibly. Typically what you have to look for is clearance behind the toilet fas measured from the center of the toilet flange to the back wall. If I recall there are 4 different sizes of toilets. There are other RV toilet manufacturers out there. I don't think you could use a home toilet because it would fill up your black water tank very quickly.

    Regarding your "fix" you've mentioned RTV silicone adhesive sealant, E6000 high viscosity adhesive and DAP 18388 flexible waterproof sealant. I only want to do this job once so which of these three do you recommend most??

    • @PilotCooking
      @PilotCooking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used E6000 but a silicone sealant is flexible enough. I used rubber gloves with the E6000 to really work it into the gasket. But be warned..... Only do this after cleaning the gasket really good and drying it. Have your surfaces clean and ready to reassemble. Discard the gloves after putting the seal in place.... It makes a real mess.

      @@PilotCooking Thanks, I'll take your advise and get this done on Wednesday. Dometic is now making all claimants go through their local dealer/service center to this warranty claim. The locals are swamped, have no stock and no availability from distributors, making them work directly with Dometic which may take forever. My conversations with Dometic today indicated it would probably be weeks before I would ever see a replacement 300 toilet; their claims are back logged and new stock flies out to fill these claims. I can't wait so I'm fixing it under your guidance. Wish me luck and good skill.

      Once the toilet is off the two floor screws, turn it upsidedown and you will see the four Phillips screws that connect the bottom and top parts. Not sure what to tell you about the wingnuts... sorry.

    What cleaners did you use for the caskets? I was thinking of dawn dish soap.

    • @PilotCooking
      @PilotCooking  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While wearing rubber gloves, I used dish soap, and cleaned three or 4 times. Then dried in-between papertowels. Then used a blow drier to get it completly dry. Used windex on the other surfaces to get them very clean before using the E6000. Using a pair of disposable rubber gloves I put the sealant on the upper and lower surfaces of the toilet and then massaged the sealant into the gasket before laying it down on the upper surface of the toilet while the toilet was upside down. When you put the screws back in make sure that you don't over tighten them. You are screwing into plastic. I let the toilet dry for 24 hours before using it just to make sure the seal it was completely sealed. We did that back in 2017 and have not had any problems since.

      @cindybee4953 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I’m glad it can be fixed but ours was only two months old. Brand new camper. So we used our warranty. Twice. We shouldn’t have to fix a brand new camper. Our neighbors bought a $75,000.00 camper and the roof leaked and ruined all their cabinets. Definitely a warranty issue! But, it is a hassle to take a camper in you have set up to live in. They came out the first time but my husband changed it the second time. We have three drains counting our washer. Hassle disconnecting to take it in.

      I realize this is a year ago. The shutter assembly can be replaced you just have to dismantle the toilet. It's not very hard and it is a good opportunity to make sure that everything is sealed and not leaking into the Subfloor.

      @@PilotCooking hello major! Are you still active on this chat? I have a one-year-old Dometic 310 that is leaking from the valve area. They sent me a new valve right away… Not acknowledging what I learned from your video just now… No surprise. Are people saying that their replacement valves are also faulty? Wondering if I should just do your fix on the old valve, or replace it and do your fix as well… Thanks for any comment.

Hard to believe there have been 50,000 views on this and that domestic is causing such an issue with peoples RV's - should probably ask for a little bit of clarification before answering your question. Are we talking about the filler valve on the right side of the toilet that lets the water flow into the toilet? Here is a video for the water valve: th-cam.com/video/hVT75xgnkn0/w-d-xo.html.
