TH-cam needs a whole channel dedicated to just this. Telling the stories behind album artwork. I would tap that niche myself if i hadn't already picked one 😎 Great video!
A moon shaped pool is a pretty iconic cover too, the way that it was made and it just looks like reminds me of being this little piece in this unfathomably big universe
Could be symbolizing Radiohead's rebirth after their hiatus from Hail To The Thief? Idk, I've always thought of the explosive cover art to the explosion of music that they bring on the album imo
@@whatdoucalladogwitnofur could be that!! To me the record brims with life, it really is life affirming at its core, so this fetus shape makes sense to me hehe
I am so fucking pissed everybody sleeps on Amnesiac, it's the best album art wise and it has the best RH songs in it and most importantly the art and the music express exactly the same thing, violence, anxiety, paranoia and depression.
My interpretation of the glitchy text on the cover art, with the repeated title, represents a glitch in the mind or soul. A infinite loop of obsession and toxic love. It's that dangerous cycle many of us get trapped in, of limerence, nostalgia, dependency, hope. They feel good and very painful at the same time. A faulty line of code that repeats endlessly.
You nailed everything other than: the release format set the precedent for bandcamp, not ask the other streaming services. Spoti and the like are really based on Napster which is what RH were trying to circumvent.❤
Wow! For such a small channel, and this being your very first video, this is excellently made! Well researched, thoughtfully written and really well edited! Well done :)
I'm a saffer living in the UK and I recently bought two of Stanley's limited prints. Coincidentally Radiohead is one of my favourite bands too. This is a great video and was cool to hear a familiar accent. This channel has a lot of potential and I wish you the best with it.
I absolutely agree with IR being one of Stanley Donwood's best album covers. If not for that, I probably wouldn't be making the art that I do to this day. I want to grab, at the very least, the ideas behind the art.
A friend of mine was talking about this artist but this video didn’t mention what he mentioned. He was saying there’s an interview where Donwood talked about how he takes a specific drug each time. Very curious what that might be.
Well, I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you on the glitch art label you've given, "In Rainbows", but nonetheless this was a fantastically interesting video, friend. In this single video you've produced more interesting content than almost all other popular music commentators/essayists.
Fascinating video/topic. I own some rh art books by donwood. Your comment regarding GLITCh was very interesting. I am a musician who collects and uses a lot of pedals. Many of the top innovators are creating “GLITCH” pedals (Chase Bliss etc) It is almost like the sounds and art are reflecting the human race…beautiful , but something is off, not quite right….made me think of how young people have develop the Tik Tok tick…which is like what a glitch would be like .The glitch makes me pause,…”are they ok? Am I ok?” Part of me wants to mention ok computer but that would be a bit cringe. That is all I got.
ok computer is the greatest album cover in the music history, imo. kid A is my #1 album in my top ten list greatest album of all times. talk talk " loughing stock" and miles davis " bitches brew" are #2 and #3
You missed 100% of the backstories behind the art. This video title deserves an actual video rather than a quick session review with multiple mess-ups. Read at least one of Stanley's books, before you pretend to take a deep dive.

Search Daniel Stashkin on y his community posts explain all of them in great detail
Not just the cover art alone some mesmerizing stuff within the books and sleeves as well
A moon shaped pool is a pretty iconic cover too, the way that it was made and it just looks like reminds me of being this little piece in this unfathomably big universe
Agreed. A moon shaped pool is also one of my favourite covers
We're only very small and life goes on within us and without us
Wait, am I the only one who sees a fetus shape in In Rainbows? I think this elevates the art even more!
Ha, I do it too. I take that fetus as the Big Bang.

It's definitely there
I see an orange heart exploding for some reason
Saw this on r/radiohead, great video! really good editing, can't wait for more!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Stratosphere
mbv and duster ftw
Dude same for me finding Pink Floyd for the album cover and when I first started listening to nirvana I was like “ooooh the baby guys”
Haha nice!
I would love an analysis of each radiohead album cover and how it helps the sound of the album
I'll get round to it eventually!
I am so fucking pissed everybody sleeps on Amnesiac, it's the best album art wise and it has the best RH songs in it and most importantly the art and the music express exactly the same thing, violence, anxiety, paranoia and depression.
Very true. Amnesiac could have an art video on its own
Great video, but how can you talk about their art while not mentioning Amnesiac? It actually won the Grammy for Best Packaging
Exactly what the fuck

I see it!
“This album is an early example of glitch art”
Autechre: Am I a joke to you?
Oval 94 diskont
I'd love it if you went into amnesiac, the art directly ties into the meaning of several tracks
I'll do it eventually!
i would say the in rainbows release was more of a foreshadowing of the bandcamp pwiw indie model than streaming
Fair point

This is a great video! Please do more radiohead
Yes I was drawn to OKC's artwork and beyond. The earlier LPs not so much.

Thanks a lot boet!
In Rainbows cant be an early example of glitch art, Glitch art was asociated with the new media art since late 70s and through the 90s with net art.
I absolutely agree with IR being one of Stanley Donwood's best album covers. If not for that, I probably wouldn't be making the art that I do to this day. I want to grab, at the very least, the ideas behind the art.
Awesome! Yeah Donwood's art is always creative
Dude you’re so underrated. You deserve more subs and views. Good stuff
I appreciate that!
I love Stanley Donwood
Me too!

my favorite stanley donwood album art is kid a, as well as the other similar artworks that surround it
Kid A definitely has great art too! Also moon shaped pool

Stop relying on the social impact, remember glitch art! ;)

Terrific video 👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks Pharuk!
ooooh factual inaccuracy at the start of donwood's contributions -- he started at My Iron Lung in 1994.
Thanks! Good catch.

It was so cringe when they made that anti bush album, so realtionary. In rainbows was a much better back to normal.
Kid A is the best cover. Everyone knows that.
The Kid A cover is definitely sick too

The tune you've choosen as soundtrack for your video has no Radiohead feel. :(
