We took this video to show you how to replace the Flex Disk or also know as Guibo on a BMW X3 E83. It will be the same procedure from 2004 to 2010. We also, replaced the center bearing because it was causing vibrations under acceleration.
If your BMW have vibrations when accelerating or going downhill most likely it is either the Guibo (flex disk), or the center bearing, or the driveshaft itself.
We replaced it without removing the exhaust because the nuts were very rusty and welded from all the heat since the vehicle has 160,000 miles.
You will be able to replace the guibo and the center bearing by just dropping the exhaust and without removing it. It is more convenient if you remove it.
We purchased the parts on eBay. They are made in Germany at very affordable price.
It should be the same or very close for all BMW X3 E83 models, gas or diesel. So it should cover the 2.0 the 2.5 and 3.0 engine also the 2.0d and 3.0d:

Good video. I just want to add something missing. You need to mark the driveshaft before you separate them and make sure to put it back the same way you removed it. Otherwise you will get the driveshaft out of balance and which may cause vibrations. There are lots of videos providing those tips and warning.

Thank you, guys. I had a 'dry bearing' noise coming out of the bottom of the vehicle and I didn't know there was bearing there until I watched your video! The bearing was exactly my issue and I'm glad I watched your video first.
My bearing would not come off the shaft without a beefy gear puller and a bunch of swearing. Then the new bearing would not slide on, even though I cleaned and lightly lubed the shaft.
I used the section of the drive shaft - sliding it over the splines - as a hammer to seat the bearing - it only touches the shoulder of the bearing. worked great.
+jmandull We are glad that the video was helpful. It depends on where you are located. If the vehicle was exposed to moister, snow, and salt the bearings tend to get stuck pretty good. Did you fix yours. My 2005 x3 3.0 had a damaged central and replaced it. But still have clunking noise at idle speed, foot off the gas pedal...good luck
@@khalidjj2073 this did fix my issue for about a year. Then the rear universal joint on the driveshaft got rusty and caused similar problems. These u-joints in the rear commonly get very rusty and make it hard to move. This might be what you are experiencing. If I knew better, I would have just replaced the entire driveshaft assembly the first time around. It is not much more money and it is basically the same labor.

Im going to be doing this to my e34 this weekend, im hoping that i can just seperate it from infront of the center support like u did and not have to undo the union or remove the entire drive shaft or exhaust, we will see, thanks for the helpful video
How long should I expect this to take to remove and replace both the flexi and carrier bearing? I have sever vibration also and need to change both to cure the problem. Thanks for posting this vid. Always great to see in advance how to tackle a job :)

Questions. 2005 bmw x3...we hear clunking noise at low speeds...don't press the gas, just let foot off the gas pedal and let car cruise...car makes clunking noise as it cruises. I did replace the central bearing following this great video...thanks any suggestions on the noise

Diagnosis is the hardest part to me. your video makes this fix seem easy, even if it's a lot of work. I feel like I can do it now. But I want to make sure that this is the problem. How would you test a car to know that this is it?
Mine Sounds like a thousand rubber mallets whacking the floor under the center console. Took mine apart today and the bearing and rubber was completely separated from the bracket.
Thanks for posting. Only note is when you take off the old support bearing. You folks simply hammer it off- however this definitely didn't work for me- that sucker was seriously rusted on. I wound up using a three jaw puller, borrowed it from advanced auto parts, and worked like a charm. Also let it sit overnight heavily doused with PB blaster.
Also will note that this, replacing flex disc and support bearing, seemed to have fixed the problem of a 70mph+ rumble I was having.

Yup- Maine, So pretty north in the u.s. Car was from Mass so it has been exposed to salt for its life. Thanks again for the video- was very helpful.
l ben was you also getting vibrations when braking. It does fell like buckled disc when breaking from 90mph to 50 and then all comes back to normal.
I think mine is due to replace soon as well, it is good they lasted over 100K miles and about 11 years.
Do you need a special tool to replace the flex plate fly wheel on a 2005 BMW X3 ?
I know this is an old video, but do you have to mark the front half of driveshaft so it’s reinstalled in the exact same position with the back for perfect balance? I just did this and get a vibration over 45 mph. Thx

your videos are great, I have a question it's irrelevant to this video, my ignition key does not open my doors any more with the middle button is it possible to charge your ignition key with out buying a new one, on a x3 3.0
No, you can't recharge the dead battery, but you can replace it. You have to cut open your key and solder in a new battery. Then you have to melt your key fob back together. Mine works great now.
Hi i would like to know if the flex disc is sided i noticed that one side has writing on it and the other side is plain
I get a clinking from somewhere in the center of the car if I delay release of the clutch... specially on the first gear in an up hill. Could either of these two be the problem?
What did the guy say about raising the wheels or something? Is it to turn the driveshaft to get the other bolts? Because I can't understand does he say raise one wheel in the rear or do I need to raise all 4 wheels off the ground to make the shaft turn?
Just noticing the Guibo on your video is opposite the original. From the driveshaft bolt to the right, it is heavy rubber, then light, the new one you installed is light (thinner portion) then thicker which is opposite. What gives? I am installing a new drive-line on my car and I see the same issue. Should I install it the way you did?

should tighten driveshaft nut at end so u can "pull apart" whole shaft to perfect length AFTER tightening guibo to trans and center bearing
I just change a new one .I did exactly like in a video ,but n has a big noise and smell like rubber burn.Any ideas?
Nice video but looks like the flex disc was put differently than the old one- if you compare the position at 11:55 and 12:10 you can see the old one is facing a thick section and the new one a thin section toward the camera. The arrows though are facing the correct way! Not sure it makes a difference though what manufacturer the disc is.

Can the U-joint be replaced?
How did you originally determine it was the support bearing? I have a noise like an airplane engine when accelerating and decelerating. The repair shop said it was the rear differential but I doubt they took off the covers to check the drive shaft components?

@@dylanbenjamin5686 It was the driveshaft. I ordered a Cardone. Search Google for the best price. I sold the X3 in 2021, it was breaking every month. Glad it is gone and will never buy another BMW.
