The subtle love triangle (square?) between Judau, Roux, and Elle, and Beecha is shown very well here when the girls are arguing about how to help him. Then Beecha comes in saying just leave him alone, probably because he’s jealous how much Elle cares. He never wants to be overshadowed by Judau or anyone else, and competing for Elle’s affection against him is part of that. A lot of this is just expressed in throwaway lines or subtext so it’s easy to miss until the end of the show when the characters discuss their feelings. Specifically when Elle chooses between Beecha and Judau, when she admits her feelings to Beecha before the final battle, then later Roux and Judau leave for the same place together. Looking back though it’s so obvious. Great writing. I love ZZ. Thanks for your channel. You probably have the best clip selection of it on TH-cam.
Beecha was a real asshole, only thinking about his self interests, Elle on the other hand was pretty solid, she wanted to fight for the cause, but was also independent, thinking for herself instead of just following orders.
As a person who actually really likes Roux, thinks she's one of the most underrated pilots in all of UC Gundam and would be more than willing to put her above most of the hot messes in Zeta Gundam like Reccoa, Sarah, Beltorchika and Rosamia, I always found her behaviour in this episode odd and the drama here forced. Judau's slump here is perfectly understandable when you consider that he's in it because his little sister, the one person he's established from the start of the show to care about the most, the person who convinced him to join AEUG in the first place and the person he spent the better part of the first 2 cours of ZZ searching for, got killed in battle. There doesn't feel like any precedent for Roux to suddenly act bitchy and refuse to just give him the space to mourn his loss. Even Beecha and Mondo are more compassionate here, and they literally spent a good earlier portion of the series trying to help Neo-Zeon. It's worse because her leaving the Argama out of... frustration(?) ends up not amounting to much since she rejoins after 2 episodes and they're all back on amicable terms like nothing happened. Like what was the point of all that then?
