That hesi step back is one of my favorite moves good move to read the defender body language and poster to act accordingly. There's always a small pause in that move that will almost always open up a gap in the defense. For example if they play the ball aggressive quick head fake then change the pace to blow by. Even if someone comes to help somebody else will be open. It's more about agility and changing tempo quickly then pure speed. And court vision too obviously.
