The vocals you hear in this track are children singing a rhyme about Gaunter O'Dimm aka Master Mirror, who is indeed the man in the image. You can also hear groups of children singing the song in-game sometimes. Here are the lyrics:

Gaunter O'Dimm is one of the most intriguing characters in video games IMO. We don't quite know what he is. Is he a god? A demon? He is both helpful and harmful. He is definitely evil, though. He offers people "wishes" and they owe him a debt that he will eventually collect, or send someone to collect for him. But even when he gives people what they want it isnt quite in the way the person intends.
I'd say he is even the most threatening and intimidating... creature?... in the entire game too. Far scarier than any vampire, striga, demon or witch.
@@gnerus1972 That's without a doubt. He is the single most powerful being in the entire breadth of the Witcher universe. In fact, power doesn't even apply to him. There is no overpowering or outwitting him. The only reason Geralt "defeats" him is because he likes Geralt and plays fair in their competition, something that he is absolutely not forced to do. He restricts himself simply because it is more amusing for him that way.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that he seems to have a parasocial appreciation for humanity, much like how we as the audience develop an interest in fictional characters, the Witcher universe would be doomed instantly. He is basically the unseen hand behind every important event in history, and perpetually leads humanity into conflict just to see what happens. He is basically god, and evil incarnate.

Gaunter O'Dimm, GOD. Also known as Master Mirror or Man of Glass.
That means, he is the Mirror of God, the Devil in a very classic sense.
And once you beat the game, you get a line in three languages saying he is not really dead, because that is not possible for you to do.
Edit: After reading again your comment, it seems your angle is more about questioning what the Devil is supposed to represent to begin with. That is another can of worms xD

Oh man you really SHOULD check out more of Witcher's (not only 3) soundtrack, it's full of Polish folk music and bangers like this one.
The composers of the entire OST for 3 (including both DLCs) were Marcin Przybyłowicz, Mikołaj Stroiński and a Polish folkmetal band Percival Schuttenbach. Said band also did the music and vocals for every track too and they almost exclusively used only ancient Polish instruments.
This track's official name is "A Gifted Man Brings Gifts Galore" and is also the English version of the song, since the original is sung in Polish.
also, the fact that he appears in the first 10 minutes of the game (excluding the tutorial level) is so cool. you get to meet the most powerful being in the game, probably even more powerful than the main antagonist which is the wild hunt. ON THE FIRST VILLAGE, 10 MINUTES IN.
Gaunter O'Dimm, (or G.O.D, funnily enough) is my favourite character in the entire Witcher series. The way they have presented him as evil incarnate is so fascinating, simply because of how warm and compassionate he can be in the right company. It seems obvious to me that he loves people, or maybe just the idea of them. He is fiercely disgusted with people of low moral character, and very keen to experience genuine moments of love and happiness. He is as willing to stack the deck in people's favour as he is to topple kingdoms just for fun. His evil nature shines in how capriciously he draws the line of who to punish and how, and how twisted his methods are. Such as providing a scholar, one who discovered Gaunter's nature and came to fear for his life, a magical circle of protection... That will instantly kill him if he ever steps outside of it. He is cruel, and flippant and unwavering in his talent for pain and suffering. No one can argue that he isn't evil, that his interest in humanity isn't a pox that sows unceasing misery and destruction... But nor can it be denied, I think, how genuinely he seems to appreciate people for their best qualities. How eager he is for things to go well for those he favours. The fact that his actions is governed by a simple and honest interest in human nature, rather than some larger ambition, is my favourite aspect of his character. He sows chaos and makes deals simply in order to enjoy watching people respond to it, and that's fascinating. To me at least.
This one is a banger. One of the best villains in gaming

My personal favorite video game villain. I have never been so immersed in the story than when playing through hearts of stone. Was always waiting for gaunter to show up.
The Witcher trilogy has some of the most distinct unique and memorable soundtracks, with movie quality all throughout, literally. Medieval and dark fantasy you are right about that! Its an experience to live through. Go back to even the first game OST, sit back, relax and enjoy, you will be amazed beyond belief in hearing what they cooked there. The atmosphere, it was all immersive mainly due to the insane OST and feels! It all started there, and its even now one of my favorite soundtracks in gaming. Period.
Its similar to the first baldur's gate games back in the late 90s. Cinematic quality and memorable AF. Music plays a huge part to accomplish that level of perfection.
Funny thing, this theme also plays in a timed sequence when you are searching for something covered by illusions and each time you think you reached it, it goes away just out of your reach.
For some context: Gaunter O'Dimm, AKA Master Mirror or the Man of Glass, is a kind of Mephistophelean figure in Witcher 3. I *believe* his name means something like "Walker in Darkness" but I'm sure someone can correct me on that. His exact nature is unclear, but we do know he is malevolent and takes pleasure in the suffering of those foolish or desperate enough to bargain with him. He can give people whatever they want, but always demands recompense in some variety, and it is *always* worse than the person expected.
He makes a brief appearance in the main Witcher game, but is effectively the central antagonist of the Hearts of Stone DLC, where you are forced to cooperate with him in order to pay back a debt, although if you are clever you can potentially get one over on him at the end.
He is named after two Stephen King character. Leland Gaunt from Needful Things which is literally Gaunter O Dimm. Great story if you like the character. And O'Dimm is a character in the Dark Tower cycle by Stephen King too. A cryptic evil character that also shares this kind of weird vibe Gaunteur O Dimm has.

Once the music starts we know that this is a dangerous situation, that just our life and soul may not be enough. And this piece shows that our character is not the main character anymore. Great soundtrack.
When you feel op in something remember that this guy can freeze time and stick a forket in your eye.

Because the song is about Gaunter is of course creepy and dangerous since he is creepy and dangerous.
But I always felt the melody carries the suffering he causes to others more. That makes the song beautifully depressing.
Yea the song is meant to have a very brother's Grimm, dark fairy tale vibe. Gaunter O'Dimm is a being talked about in hushed whispers around a campfire in the dead of night. Tales of men making wishes and being undone by their hubris, all for the entertainment of an unknown being that looks and speaks like a man.
Definitely should check out Mystery Man from the Hearts of Stone dlc, a lot more heavier track
The man of glass is very Mephistophelean in his nature. Love his story it's so good. As a jazz enjoyer you'll like this: you meet him to start the dlc quest at a crossroads...
I honestly wish they had more of the nursery rhyme singing in this arrangement, the words to it are so good, talking about how he lures you in with your desires and everything you love or are attracted to, but it comes at a cost; which one way or another, he WILL claim. The music fits him so well.
If you played the HoS DLC, it will send chills through you, because you *know*

The "bottom of the ocean" comment is so on the nose because there's a trailer involving the character where he's just chilling at the bottom of the ocean as if there wasn't water around him, which further strengthens the many theories and comparisons likening Gaunter to lovecraftian characters like Cthulu and Nyarlathotep
You should not only check out Witcher music, I highly recommend you try getting into the story. I feel like it's something you'd really be interested in.

There are so many good Witcher 3 songs yet it happened to react to one of the weakest and simplest of them. This ost has value only if you know who Gaunter O`Dimm actually is. Recommend him literally any other Witcher 3 song.
I love this song but he does have his voters voting for the least popular songs in a game. There's nothing inherently wrong with that but that means he doesn't get to react to some of the best tracks sometimes.
Sadly people just recomend their favs without understanding that for someone who havent played the original is not going to get it
