    I thought the "head tilt syndrome" in bunnies was fatal and a death sentence basically. So happy to find out it's not! and that it's treatable. I haven't had rabbits in over 10 years but I remember having one that had this problem and the vet said he had to be put to sleep. Same with my Aunt's bunny that also had the head tilt problem. Poor things. Thanks for this video :)

    Aww this reminds me of a bun I had! He had an ear infection that went undiagnosed for several weeks because he didn't have all of the symptoms of an ear infection and, despite checking multiple times over multiple visits, the vet could not see an infection (turns out it was really deep in his ear). He never developed a head tilted, but he did develop a wobbly-ness to his gait like a drunken stagger that prevented him from being able to periscope which persisted for the rest of his life. He eventually relearned how to jump up onto things (he was my climbing bun) and how to periscope, but he could only do it for a short duration and often needed to be able to lean on something. Silly bun scared me half to death when, after he had started climbing again, he decided to get cheeky and climb the slippery wooden stairs to the second floor of the house!

    • @try2justbe
      @try2justbe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How long did your bunny live for 3ith this condition and did he get treatment for his inner ear infection? Did you you notice anything at the early stages like scratching his ears or falling?

    • @megapiglatin2574
      @megapiglatin2574 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@try2justbe All good questions!
      1. He lived the remainder of his life with this condition, which only was about another 8 months-1 year. I don't believe it was related in any way to the disease he developed that ultimately took his life as that disease appeared to have been concentrated in the gut.
      2. He did receive treatment for his ear infection as soon as I noticed the problem and the infection was cleared as far as his vet could tell.
      3. That was the tricky part: he did not have any obvious early signs of an ear infection!

    Normally head tilt is brought on from an ear infection.. but theirz a different kind of "head tilt" that's brought from immune compromised, elderly, kits or a bun that went thru surgery..12 yrs ago I rescued a lionhead kit, when she hit 1yr old she had to go thru a full hysterectomy and c-section .. 2 months later. She developed head tilt.. her vet checked her the next day after it showed!. Their was no ear infection.. no infection at all that they could test for.. within 2 days she was full trapped on her side and rolling because her head was fully parallel to the ground. Vet said she was beyond help because they had nothing to treat. And they couldnt just throw random meds at her hoping to save her.. well . I staring looking online, and found a breeder who's got this type of tilt.. she used a experimental treatment and was almost always able to save her buns.. they were permanently disabled needing special care. But lived healthy lives... sarabi wouldve died anyway so I did it too.. she was only 3lbs so it was riskier because of doses. But after3 days of treatment her tilt stopped progressing.. it took me chopping her solid food and hay and mixing with yogurt to feed her thru a syringe, same with water. She slept on my chest every night to stop her rolling.. and thru physical therapy and time.. she was able to sit up and eat on her own and learned how to sit up, then eventually learned to walk again. This whole process took place in the span of 4 months.. she lived to be 6yrs.

    I had to put my bunny down over this. The ear infection was caused by dental issues. I was told one couldn't be fixed without fixing the other - a can't do wash. They said dental surgery would kill her. They gave her a 5% chance. She had spent a year in and out of dental surgeries. I decided that I loved her enough to let her go. She fell asleep in my arms. She was my best friend.

    My rabbit had a bad head tilt he couldn’t even stand had to teach himself to stand and walk again and still had really bad balance. Took him to the vet and they thought it was and ear infection. Treated him for and eat infection and it did not resolve at all they gave me gel to apply to the downward eye but he lived normal other than that until he died a bit over a year later. Don’t think it was the cause of his death I think he had a heart attack induced by sudden fright.

      My rabbit also has a bad head tilt. But it just got worse over the last few days to where she can't even stand now. But I've been trying to get him into the vet or hospital, which will be about a week by the time someone will finally see him because they don't have enough vets around here that take care of bunnies. I was pretty sure it was probably an ear infection, I hope it wasn't because it got injured or had a heart attack or something 🤔

    • @charliethecairnterrier
      @charliethecairnterrier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kwah2o84 It's not really an ear problem but E. Cuniculi affects the central nervous system, such as the brain. The head tilting is because of brain damage. It's known as a parasite but in university we learn it's actually most likely a kind of mold, not really a parasite.They are still doing intensive research on it. But it's treatable with the usual meds like panacur.

    Every symptom she just listed is what my albino angora Lionhead rabbit had and the vet said he was dying and euthanized him , soooo im gunna need a lawyer apparently because if he was treatable they just put down a 11 yearold $1000 animal that I rescued from the fur trade

      Unfortunately that happens more so than often especially with rabbit. My rabbit was also wrongly euthanized by a vet who I know now didn't even do the basic checks before deciding that, but I couldn't do anything about it and it hurts till this day 6 years later!

      Yeah, there's just not enough experienced vets, hard enough to just get enough vets that'll take care of or know enough about bunnies. I'm sure this is happened a lot, if I hadn't seen this video I would have thought my rabbit had some lethal disease, or broke his neck or something worse too. I'm still not so sure what's going on with my rabbit it's probably one of the most extreme cases I've ever seen

    I wonder why Dr. K did not give her a decongestant. Ive had vertigo and it was THE WORST FEELING EVER, I thought I had a stroke. The room never stopped spinning. 2 ERs later a doctor gave me a decongestant and I was fixed

      Are you seriously comparing the anatomy of human and rabbits? Head tilt is caused by E cunniculi infection which needs many treatments. Not something simple as vertigo which isn't an infection to begin with.

    Sorry but the head tilt in rabbits is usually caused by E. cunniculi not inner ear infection. I think you need to study more textbooks.
