In Denmark, the cheapest commercial firewood is 450$ for 2 cubic meters = 70 cubic feet. A few months ago there were shortages, and the price was almost double. Luckily last year I collected wood from different people throwing wood out from garden projects. No fancy equipment, sawed manually, chopped with a small axe and dried on a few pallets. Hard physical labour puts you in a humble happy place. Happy new years Billy!

Nick, go for it.. I have been doing firewood off and on my whole life but really started selling it when I was 35, just a few axes, a little tiny (Sthil s211) saw, and a borrowed F350.. Fast forward years later, I am 42, and I have my own truck and trailer and a commercial grade splitter and a Sthil MS461 in the fleet.
Great video Bucking.. I started selling firewood because I love running power saws and by watching your videos somehow that turned into a small tree service business . The crazy part of the story is I started this adventure at 65 and I am now 71 and still going strong .. Thank you . I would recommend to firewood sellers that the smaller amount you sell the more you make.. A cord of wood in my area goes for about $ 350 but I can sell a face cord for $ 150 and if you can sell bundled wood you'll make a lot more. Sometimes it pays to think small . Happy year everyone.
Billy , man I tell ya , you always get me thinking. Back in 1985 I bought an old farm house that needed a ton of work, my very first home and I was 26yrs young LOL. Very few of my friends were even out of their parents home at that time. I had to be on my own and did what everyone said "you can't do that, you can't do this" I always said "watch me". Anyway, I did some creative financing that banks wouldn't help me with because they all wanted me to buy a little house on a tiny lot for a lot of money with a 30 yr mortgage. I thought screw that 30 yr BS , that's a nightmare in my eyes. The old farm house was 3600 sq ft on one floor plus 2500 sqft basement ,plus a huge barn that was 180ft long x 50ft wide 2 full floors w/(1first floor being the basement w/ concrete floors) 18,000 sq ft total for the barn alone , all on 10 ac. of farm fields. Of course I only heated part of the house the first winter with an oil furnace my brother and I installed. Was not cheap to heat that house even in those days with oil ,which I heated about 2000sq ft at first. Lucky for me the old farmer installed a Riteway wood/ coal stove in the basement , took 48 inch logs ,brick lined and airtight. I just bought a one ton ford brand new 1986 straight cab 8 ft bed srw (fall of 85) and was buying full 8 ft length logs off a guy who was clearing house lots , he said you load them yourself (I did it by hand by myself) , 30 bucks a load ,with a small rack behind the cab I stacked them as High as I could and strapped them down, 3 nights a week after working all day and then all day sat & sunday, for months , just so I didn't have to pay for oil. I just started my own Electrical business back then and was working for contractors too and helping my older brother with his HVAC business. I worked every single day and sometimes take half a sunday off and go 4 wheeling or ride the dirt bike or maybe the whole sunday and go to a truck/car show or a monster truck rally . Or just go to the lake and go swimming for the day. I started working with a friend when I was 14 yrs old in the electrical business and pretty much have never stopped and always had side gigs and even to this day I still have side gigs. But now at 63 I don't work as hard and take the whole weekend off. But I'm still buckin firewood and this past summer helped my buddie next door cut down enough trees on his lot for at least 15 cords of wood. which he gave me half that for helping him. I live in a different place now on a wooded lot in New Hampshire in a much smaller home that takes about 3cords to heat per winter. I love cutting and splitting wood and it's mostly oak, but all hard woods in this area. Just a little story about how I love buckin wood. Keep the videos coming Billy I love them.

Well said, Buckin.. I started firewood borrowing my dad's 2001 f350 diesels.. about a year later, I got a 95 F150, and now have a 97 HD F250 with a matching Home-built Trailer, and that what I haul a cord with.. Your knowledge and a few others is what got me started and have gotten me better too..
Well buckin July 2020 I got shot 6 times and about 9 months ago I started selling firewood. There are days that I hurt and need to rest so I had to go to work for myself because employers don't want someone that can't work everyday. But you have helped guide me down this firewood selling path I'm on. Thank you.

Watching this video made me think of my father. He worked full time in the granite industry and then sold firewood on the side. We did up to 50 cord of wood.a year. He had a '59 Ford F350 and a Husqvarna 266. It made me strong and taught me how to work

Your a good man from what I see Bill my friend Mello made a good life out of a few saws his climbing gear and a pickup. I started working with him when I was 11. He was selling wood up tell his 80th birthday. That man worked everyday would go out and split wood at 5am on Christmas day
I absolutely can not agree more with the statement you made about how you decide who you want to work for. Starting out, you want to take on any and every job that comes your way, but often, you can sell yourself short because you "need" the job. I used to be a faller, but I got burnt out. One day, I woke up and wanted to try something new. Now, years later, I make chainsaw carvings, and starting out, people would complain about the prices, but I knew my worth and stuck to my guns. Now, today, I'm swamped with work, have people basically begging me to work for them, and I have to sometimes turn business down. Know your worth!!! Never sell yourself short!

Buckin' I worked tirelessly for 4 years working nights for my regular job,then working during days and weekends to get the downpayment on my house. I put airbags under my little single cab Tacoma to take care of my family and myself. I'm a believer in airbags if you can only afford a less than half ton truck or a half ton. I have to admit,its rough out there for young folk,but I did it. It just takes drive and I have to say this as well...alot of youngins now a days dont want it. You raised Hogan right.
Here in Germany, the wood already cut and split and dry costs ..... 1 cubic meter almost 300 €. I can get it in the forest for €45, but I have to cut it myself, etc. Of course it's not dry. A few months ago I got it for 39€ (beech) Wish you a happy new year
Face cords and half face cords are what sells here. Most customers dont want too much wood stacked around their houses. Face cords are going for 110-130 and half a face is 70$ . Cant keep up. I will be cutting spring and summer. Thanks for the video buckin!

I have been heating my home and workshop with firewood for 18 years, I have an outdoor wood stove. I burn about 15 cords a year. I built a ultimate 2005 F350 Superduty. The truck was a crew cab long box, I took the crew cab off and put a regular cab on it and a 7 by 11 foot flat bed with fold down sides. As I get older I need to work smarter!

As always there is something to take away from your videos. I sell firewood as a side thing to get some extra money with my tree service. I enjoy it and for the most part run out of my f150 I mainly get orders for half chords down here in Missouri. Any larger quantities and I break out the 350. I generally sell cheaper than the more established guys around me but I have a smaller operation and am only doing around 8 chords this year. What's funny is even with my prices generally being 25-50 dollars below the bigger guys people still scoff at my prices. I love the bit on valuing yourself and your knowledge. That's the biggest issue I have pricing tree jobs because I always think it's too much. I need to get better at understanding my market and pricing for my area. Stay safe out there and keep passing on the good word.

I’m new to you channel Buckin', I’m not sure if you read new comments on old videos. The most efficient I ever was cutting firewood was with a saw, splitting by hand, and delivering with a half ton pickup, because I was always gypo. I would stack wood in an 8' box with level with the sides, but put a good hump on it, I could easily haul a half a cord, I charged between $100-$120 a pickup load depending on certain factors, customers LOVED it, I had so much work I was always months ahead on orders. I agree with you 100% on delivering with a pickup. Great videos. I enjoy the real world side of TH-cam you provide.
That brings back memories. My dad had internationals all his life doing our landscape and garden center business. I learned off an international loadstar 1700 1970 something. Split rear end, they were great trucks. Right now I’m putting together my first set of spurs from Buckingham, that top strap is a real pain. And like you as I got on my feet I chose who got the rewards and who didn’t because there are a lot of really nice people out there.

I do firewood on the weekends to help supplement funds and I don’t kill my body over it I do this cause I enjoy it and I am still learning new ways of doing things

Some customers will see you as a servant rather than a service and then there’ll be others who have very little but will look after you like family. Wish we had market and demand for fire wood in Australia. Mainly in snowy mountain ranges everywhere else it’s just too tropical and there’s no demand. Buckin I been selling wood for along time since I had my license in high school and I have had very good customers who have never batted an eye at my prices but I have had a couple folks who tried to bring my price down haha I upped it 50$ per cord right on the spot and said not a piece comes off my truck until I have cash in my hand… lol the guy paid and walked in the house havnt heard from him since 😂 I’ve never liked that when ppl try to finagle prices like we’re some low man on the totem pole… I usually leave with got buy a truck, axe and saw and have a jolly good time like I do everyday 😉 awesome video brother wish you good health and happiness
My Dad used to trim trees, he climbed every tree, and all he had was a GMC 1 ton with a 12 foot dump bed. He would get paid for removing or trimming the tree, save the wood and sale the firewood. We would stack the brush in the truck and dump it at the farm, he said it was good for the rabbits to hide in it. He made a great living with only one truck, he also farmed , milked cows ,sold strawberries and raised 10 kids, and never had to advertise, he climbed all the way up 70 years old when his prostate cancer finally crippled him, and was very hard for me the man that could climbed any tree out work anyone . We took great pride in our work . No you see tree trimming companies with 5 or 6 trucks and most can't climb a tree ,that is sad. You remind me alot of my dad. Like I said he did it all with only one truck!!!! Thank you so much for your channel.

Buckin, because of your video splitting wood with your Gripo and your old man I went out and got myself a kinetic splitter for my newly started tree service a year ago. Brother thank you! It's been the second best advice you've given me! To split and tight-stack a load into a 2.5 cord dump our record as a four man crew is 45 minutes. So what's the best advice I've received from you then?? Just to be kind. Seriously. Your attitude is inspiring. Coming from a background in forestry in northern BC myself, I assumed being crusty was a right of passage for an old faller and as I was getting older and more experienced I felt my crust thickening. Watching you reminds me that there is a better way, just be kind. Now, whenever I feel myself acting crusty I shake it off, smile and choose to just be kind. It's really made me a better man. I started stacking firewood at 6yrs old for a neighbor across the road, my first paying job! Fast forward a couple of years and I start splitting it at 12 yrs old for my family. At 16 I got an old 94 dodge pickup and I started selling and delivering firewood. Now at 22yrs old I have an ever growing firewood business and I still use the old Dodge pickup. I have learned a lot from both Buckin’ and Brad at firewood at the furnace. Also I have an 08’ Dodge 3/4 ton with an 8ft bed on it. With some careful stacking I can get a full cord on it without sideboards and i once delivered 38miles away in the hills here in SW Missouri and didn’t lose a piece. Stay honest, humble and kind friends!

Well buckin July 2020 I got shot 6 times and about 9 months ago I started selling firewood. There are days that I hurt and need to rest so I had to go to work for myself because employers don't want someone that can't work everyday. But you have helped guide me down this firewood selling path I'm on. Thank you.

As always, you nailed it dead center! My brother and I got ourselves through college using a very "unlevel" pickup, (Chevy 3/4 ton) 🤣🤣🤣, stacked with firewood servicing customers all the time. The best description I could give was the Beverly Hillbilly's truck!

Watching this video made me think of my father. He worked full time in the granite industry and then sold firewood on the side. We did up to 50 cord of wood.a year. He had a '59 Ford F350 and a Husqvarna 266. It made me strong and taught me how to work

Down here in Connecticut I have been blessed enough to have a wood lot and the woman said I can take all the dead standing trees. This video could not have come at a better time! I used to install flooring and am legally blind now. Use a work van to get wood now, oh it’s. Beat up but 1 ton, brother drives me and son helps me out

Your a good man from what I see Bill my friend Mello made a good life out of a few saws his climbing gear and a pickup. I started working with him when I was 11. He was selling wood up tell his 80th birthday. That man worked everyday would go out and split wood at 5am on Christmas day

I absolutely can not agree more with the statement you made about how you decide who you want to work for. Starting out, you want to take on any and every job that comes your way, but often, you can sell yourself short because you "need" the job. I used to be a faller, but I got burnt out. One day, I woke up and wanted to try something new. Now, years later, I make chainsaw carvings, and starting out, people would complain about the prices, but I knew my worth and stuck to my guns. Now, today, I'm swamped with work, have people basically begging me to work for them, and I have to sometimes turn business down. Know your worth!!! Never sell yourself short!

Buckin' I worked tirelessly for 4 years working nights for my regular job,then working during days and weekends to get the downpayment on my house. I put airbags under my little single cab Tacoma to take care of my family and myself. I'm a believer in airbags if you can only afford a less than half ton truck or a half ton. I have to admit,its rough out there for young folk,but I did it. It just takes drive and I have to say this as well...alot of youngins now a days dont want it. You raised Hogan right.

Here in Germany, the wood already cut and split and dry costs ..... 1 cubic meter almost 300 €.
I can get it in the forest for €45, but I have to cut it myself, etc.
Of course it's not dry.
A few months ago I got it for 39€ (beech)

Face cords and half face cords are what sells here. Most customers dont want too much wood stacked around their houses. Face cords are going for 110-130 and half a face is 70$ . Cant keep up. I will be cutting spring and summer. Thanks for the video buckin!

I have been heating my home and workshop with firewood for 18 years, I have an outdoor wood stove. I burn about 15 cords a year. I built a ultimate 2005 F350 Superduty. The truck was a crew cab long box, I took the crew cab off and put a regular cab on it and a 7 by 11 foot flat bed with fold down sides. As I get older I need to work smarter!

As always there is something to take away from your videos. I sell firewood as a side thing to get some extra money with my tree service. I enjoy it and for the most part run out of my f150 I mainly get orders for half chords down here in Missouri. Any larger quantities and I break out the 350. I generally sell cheaper than the more established guys around me but I have a smaller operation and am only doing around 8 chords this year. What's funny is even with my prices generally being 25-50 dollars below the bigger guys people still scoff at my prices.
I love the bit on valuing yourself and your knowledge. That's the biggest issue I have pricing tree jobs because I always think it's too much. I need to get better at understanding my market and pricing for my area.

I’m new to you channel Buckin', I’m not sure if you read new comments on old videos.
The most efficient I ever was cutting firewood was with a saw, splitting by hand, and delivering with a half ton pickup, because I was always gypo.
I would stack wood in an 8' box with level with the sides, but put a good hump on it, I could easily haul a half a cord, I charged between $100-$120 a pickup load depending on certain factors, customers LOVED it, I had so much work I was always months ahead on orders.
I agree with you 100% on delivering with a pickup. Great videos. I enjoy the real world side of TH-cam you provide.
That brings back memories. My dad had internationals all his life doing our landscape and garden center business. I learned off an international loadstar 1700 1970 something. Split rear end, they were great trucks. Right now I’m putting together my first set of spurs from Buckingham, that top strap is a real pain. And like you as I got on my feet I chose who got the rewards and who didn’t because there are a lot of really nice people out there.

As a garden maintenance man myself this rings so true. Some customers will see you as a servant rather than a service and then there’ll be others who have very little but will look after you like family. Those are the people I get a kick out of looking after and giving discounts to.

Wish we had market and demand for fire wood in Australia. Mainly in snowy mountain ranges everywhere else it’s just too tropical and there’s no demand. Buckin I been selling wood for along time since I had my license in high school and I have had very good customers who have never batted an eye at my prices but I have had a couple folks who tried to bring my price down haha I upped it 50$ per cord right on the spot and said not a piece comes off my truck until I have cash in my hand… lol the guy paid and walked in the house havnt heard from him since 😂 I’ve never liked that when ppl try to finagle prices like we’re some low man on the totem pole… I usually leave with got buy a truck, axe and saw and have a jolly good time like I do everyday 😉 awesome video brother wish you good health and happiness

My Dad used to trim trees, he climbed every tree, and all he had was a GMC 1 ton with a 12 foot dump bed. He would get paid for removing or trimming the tree, save the wood and sale the firewood. We would stack the brush in the truck and dump it at the farm, he said it was good for the rabbits to hide in it. He made a great living with only one truck, he also farmed , milked cows ,sold strawberries and raised 10 kids, and never had to advertise, he climbed all the way up 70 years old when his prostate cancer finally crippled him, and was very hard for me the man that could climbed any tree out work anyone . We took great pride in our work . No you see tree trimming companies with 5 or 6 trucks and most can't climb a tree ,that is sad. You remind me alot of my dad. Like I said he did it all with only one truck!!!! Thank you so much for your channel.

Buckin, because of your video splitting wood with your Gripo and your old man I went out and got myself a kinetic splitter for my newly started tree service a year ago. Brother thank you! It's been the second best advice you've given me! To split and tight-stack a load into a 2.5 cord dump our record as a four man crew is 45 minutes. So what's the best advice I've received from you then?? Just to be kind. Seriously. Your attitude is inspiring. Coming from a background in forestry in northern BC myself, I assumed being crusty was a right of passage for an old faller and as I was getting older and more experienced I felt my crust thickening. Watching you reminds me that there is a better way, just be kind. Now, whenever I feel myself acting crusty I shake it off, smile and choose to just be kind. It's really made me a better man. I started stacking firewood at 6yrs old for a neighbor across the road, my first paying job! Fast forward a couple of years and I start splitting it at 12 yrs old for my family. At 16 I got an old 94 dodge pickup and I started selling and delivering firewood. Now at 22yrs old I have an ever growing firewood business and I still use the old Dodge pickup. I have learned a lot from both Buckin’ and Brad at firewood at the furnace. Also I have an 08’ Dodge 3/4 ton with an 8ft bed on it. With some careful stacking I can get a full cord on it without sideboards and i once delivered 38miles away in the hills here in SW Missouri and didn’t lose a piece. Stay honest, humble and kind friends!
