Most people don't realize it yet, but Uwe Boll is a living legend. Less than 50 years from now, film audiences and critics will look back on him and all his work, marveling in awe.
"its naturally much easier to sell the film. So basically this was a pure marketing measure... I do not play video games at all." That quote speaks for itself to be honest.
He's written many things against the establishment of mainstream films of which were relentlessly advertised whether they were high or low quality. The character in his new movie Postal also has an anarchy symbol tattooed on his arm.
This is why I'm glad we have people like Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, the Coen Bros. and Ridley Scott. They restore our faith in cinema. Shit, I would watch the Star Wars prequels before I watch any of Uwe's movies again.
The exact quote of what happened between blizzard and Uwe Boll is "I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, 'We will not sell the movie rights, not to you... especially not to you.'" I think Uwe got owned there.
Honestly I haven't seen a single one of his movies but I like him as a personality. He's seems like he doesn't give a shit what people think which I like. And he put his mouth where his money was by fighting in the ring, although not one of those bloggers could touch him.
i don't think there's a reason to hate a director when they make a bad movie every now and then. but when they're startlingly consistent, there's something continuously going wrong. it's alarming, really. he's never touched a video game, i've never touched his films, and i'll gladly keep it that way.
Pause it at 1:58. That image alone says more about why he should NOT direct video game adaptations of movies than anything anyone else could possibly say.
you gotta give it to him, as much as his movies are crap, he is successful. he knows how to work the system and he knows how to make money. i bet none of us have teh saavy and smarts to make it as big as him if we tried
This here people is the man with the biggest balls.... ever. Gods I love Uwe. Creative and funny and his films are not made to be taken seriously. Got to take them as a joke and laugh along. You either get it or don't that simple.
they challenged him, not otherwise. his newer movies recieved quite good reviews, so maybe its changing. but uwe is a tough cool guy, nobody can bring him down, thats why i like him
I never understood why Uwe Boll boxes his critics, I get that he wants to punch them in the face. But does beating them in a boxing match make your movies less shitty or his criticisms any less valid. I get that Uwe Boll is a tard but does he really think that people who didn't like his movies will watch him box and be so impressed that they will go "I used to think BloodRayne sucked but now after watching him box it's fantastic"? And now when anyone criticizes him he automatically falls back on boxing him "you think my works shit, well then come to Germany and step in the ring with the great Uwe Boll then we will see who's movies are shit. Everyone just thinks that if it's not a big Hollywood film then the movies bad like mindless sheep. I'm a genius and my movies are genius too. So says I the genius Uwe Boll the greatest director of the century"
The point is that some people can't take critisism towards them or their property (at the current situation: films that Uwe Boll produced). Those people can't respond to negative feedbacks, so they call them to face them in box, insult critics or cover the criticism. People like Uwe Boll are so naive, that they think that beating them in box will impress them, change their opinion and make the review less valid. God damn atrocity Uwe Boll is.
Its funny how some People love his movies whilst other people hate him for making them :D Ive just seen one movie of those he made: Postal! I love this Movie!
It's new to me that english music gets translated for us. It's normal to listen to english songs here. And the thing with the movies. Everyone does that (although original dubs are almost always better!)
What that guy said. The tax law is not around anymore since 2009. The law said we would get any money back lost in filmfonds, ie rendering it tax free. Of course those fonds were intended for Germany. That means if a movie generated a profit good, if not, good. Soo hollywood was free for 6 years to squander 2 billion a year, some used on movies like LOTR and others on movies we can only appologize for. But with the loophole closed the quality of movies should increase again.
Haaaa Gotta love this guy. Whocares for his movies. As a person he's just the greatest guy there is. i love him even more because he shits inthe face of all those videogameplaying nerds around the world.
He seems more likeable as a person than as a director... Of course, you'd think that a man who makes his living directing video games would at least be a gamer, himself. His confession claiming the opposite is unforgiveable for somebody who'd love to have directed a game-based film. ...Wonderful documentary, though - was this filmed professionaly?
i dont think uwe boll deserves all the hatred people seem to show him. i mean, are his films hurting anyone? no. he's doing what he loves, and so what if he's not good at it? if you see someone who loves to, say, draw, but is terrible at it, do you hate them, send them death threats, and petition them to stop? no, i doubt it. all im saying is that he might no deserve all the hate he gets.
Uwe Boll is formidable boxer. If he wanted i think he could get a good rank in the professional circuits. Blizzard should be honored that Boll wants to make a movie of the World of warcraft game.
No he is not going to make a movie about mgs, the creator of Metal gear Hideo Kojima responded when he said that and said that Uwe boll had no idea what he was talking about, Uwe boll later said that he had been tricked by 2 men that said that they had been working for Hideo Kojima. So no worries on that front.
I really do like his films. I really do like Alone in the Dark. The directing is really good and I did like how he planned out his camera angles and shots in the epic House of the Dead shootout scene :)
Boll is not hated by the public, the only people that are really aware of Boll are internet nerds. The general public doesn't recognise his name thats my impression and if confronted with his movies they except them the mediocre action flicks that they are.
No! What are you talking about? He needs to do his own biopic! Written, produced, directed and starring Uwe Boll! That'll be awesome! Just like a new genre lol.
...so Boll can tell Vladimir, who btw. speaks german, how he can make quick money in Hollywood. Only do that if you want to see even worse movies made by Vladimir Klitschko
the fact that he doesn't even play video games is pretty revealing. how can anyone expect to make a decent movie about something that he doesnt know one split of.
To slightly quote Danny Devito from 'Man on the Moon': "Uwe, you have to look inside and ask this question: who are you trying to entertain - the audience or yourself?" (I'd predict the latter)
He should make a film adaptation of mike Tyson's PunchOut. Then again, I don't know If his directorial skills have matured enough for that level of dialogue.
Stoic is like gold compared to his old works. Tunnel Rats is watchable with some good sequences. Actually, the man's improving, the majority of his upcoming films aren't video games adaptation, which is a good sign. Maybe in 5, 10 years, he'll give us fine flicks who knows?
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE COULDN'T BEAT BOLL UP! Surely, there must have been more film reviewers who were physically fit! Shame that they missed the opportunity to shut the guy up.
I like how he thinks winning a boxing match justifies his side of an argument. He can win as many fights as he wants but his movies will always be horrible and no one can change that.
@VOSTFR Paul Verhoeven beat you to the punch on that. He directed Starship Troopers without ever finishing the novel. Most directors of Boll's generation wouldn't have had video games except for the old arcade games like Pong, Pac-Man or Donkey Kong...let us know if someone makes a movies on one of those games.
"I do not play video games at all." That line was like a stab in my heart
Postal was at least faithful than all the other ones
Most people don't realize it yet, but Uwe Boll is a living legend. Less than 50 years from now, film audiences and critics will look back on him and all his work, marveling in awe.
"I do not play games at all, this is a pure marketing measure"
SOMEONE STOP THIS MAN!
I don't think I can
"its naturally much easier to sell the film. So basically this was a pure marketing measure... I do not play video games at all."
That quote speaks for itself to be honest.
After this video, I just have to say that I admire this fella! His cockyness and everything... it is just so great!
He may be the worst director of all time, but you kinda have to admit: he's got balls.
Bolls!
hey, does anyone hav the original link or at least the title of this documentary? I'm trying to add it as a source for an investiation
@Wofaze How does this make you a fan?
He's written many things against the establishment of mainstream films of which were relentlessly advertised whether they were high or low quality.
The character in his new movie Postal also has an anarchy symbol tattooed on his arm.
If you ever played Postal 2 you'd know that Postal was the most faithful adaption of a videogame ever made.
Boll doesn't make bad movies, nor good ones. They are Uwe Boll good.
Uwe Boll will be recognized as the only important contributor to film in the next 100 years.
what movies?
He just gave you the reason, it's because the games he uses for his movies are already well known, so it's easier to advertise.

He beat his critics by catching them off guard.
I must admit that Uwe's films get better all the time. Seriously. Dungeon siege was pretty good actually, and postal was simply awesome.
ok, i can live with that, but i still think uwe made some great film. have you seen postal and rampage?
I honestly feel sorry for this guy. He's received so much criticism that he has convinced himself that he isn't such a bad director.
i don't think there's a reason to hate a director when they make a bad movie every now and then. but when they're startlingly consistent, there's something continuously going wrong. it's alarming, really. he's never touched a video game, i've never touched his films, and i'll gladly keep it that way.
I'm a fan of his, haven't seen a single movie from him and aim to keep it that way.
Uwe fills me with such insane rage.
Anyone buys his DVD's???!?
"I do not play video games at all".
That explains his whole career.
Pause it at 1:58. That image alone says more about why he should NOT direct video game adaptations of movies than anything anyone else could possibly say.

but uwe is a tough cool guy, nobody can bring him down, thats why i like him
he doesn't play video game yet he makes movies about them, and he want's a academy award? Is this guy for real
I love Boll's movies!!!!!
imagine Michael Bay would have only 4 Mio for a Movie ,
afterwards he could never make a movie again
... but Boll is still there ;)
"I do not play video games at all."
That explains so much.
2:09 "But... the question would be to whom." - I lol´ed
I never understood why Uwe Boll boxes his critics, I get that he wants to punch them in the face. I could agree there, seeing as most of the angry haters are HUGE fans of the video games that directs adaptations of.
DAM Uwe Boll!!!
Stock exchange heys?
Dont see that going up anytime soon!!
Go Boll! Go! I love this guy!
@Regiesseur1 how the hell would u know u dont like a movie until u see it
Uwe Boll should run for president of the world. He's the superawesomest man ever!
Is there one movie that he's done which doesn't stink?
"If i would receive an Academy Award one day. I.."
God forbid i laughed my ass off hearing that ! xD
The words he's speaking make more sense than his film scripts, and I don't even know the German language.
Someone need to make a movie about this guy.
"We will not sell the movie rights, not to you... not ever to you."
So far the petition to get him to quit is over 300,000 signatures. Come on people, lets get it to that magical 1000,000 :)
He will be bashed in our time and praise in the next 20 years for the 'Cult Classic' status for his movies.
Its funny how some People love his movies whilst other people hate him for making them :D
Ive just seen one movie of those he made: Postal!
I love this Movie!
uwe is the best! he might not know how to direct, but he sure knows how to make money! i like him :)
Uwe Boll kicks ass. Literally.
It's new to me that english music gets translated for us. It's normal to listen to english songs here.
And the thing with the movies.
Everyone does that (although original dubs are almost always better!)
@YuriPRIME you're joking , right ?

boll u rock, dude!!
Go Uwe! Your the best!
@Bruno1986BR
Yeah I know.
"I'm Uwe Boll, what are movies?"
Haaaa Gotta love this guy. Whocares for his movies. As a person he's just the greatest guy there is. i love him even more because he shits inthe face of all those videogameplaying nerds around the world.
@VOSTFR
Remember, he's a business man who is proud of 'draining the most out of hollywood'.
He seems more likeable as a person than as a director...
Of course, you'd think that a man who makes his living directing video games would at least be a gamer, himself. His confession claiming the opposite is unforgiveable for somebody who'd love to have directed a game-based film.
...Wonderful documentary, though - was this filmed professionaly?
i have heard he makes only profit with the DVD selling.
Its hysterical !
i dont think uwe boll deserves all the hatred people seem to show him. i mean, are his films hurting anyone? no. he's doing what he loves, and so what if he's not good at it? if you see someone who loves to, say, draw, but is terrible at it, do you hate them, send them death threats, and petition them to stop? no, i doubt it. all im saying is that he might no deserve all the hate he gets.
Uwe Boll - The King of Action Movies .

The general public doesn't recognise his name thats my impression and if confronted with his movies they except them the mediocre action flicks that they are.
"My fans like, that there is someone who is shooting genre-movies"
OMG! Uwe Boll got fans?!
No! What are you talking about? He needs to do his own biopic! Written, produced, directed and starring Uwe Boll! That'll be awesome! Just like a new genre lol.
I kinda want to send Wladimir Klitschko a bunch of Uwe Boll films right now
...so Boll can tell Vladimir, who btw. speaks german, how he can make quick money in Hollywood. Only do that if you want to see even worse movies made by Vladimir Klitschko
the budget of his latest film was 60 millions (twice the budget of District 9) but only earned ....5 millions
the fact that he doesn't even play video games is pretty revealing.
how can anyone expect to make a decent movie about something that he doesnt know one split of.
@CarlVonNirgendwo Konami told him the same thing when he wanted to do Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid.
To slightly quote Danny Devito from 'Man on the Moon':
"Uwe, you have to look inside and ask this question: who are you trying to entertain - the audience or yourself?"
(I'd predict the latter)
Well done, Uwe...
Yep.
exactly
Never direct a movie based on a game without playing the game yourself.
He should make a film adaptation of mike Tyson's PunchOut. Then again, I don't know If his directorial skills have matured enough for that level of dialogue.
@mattjnor98 Oh most definitely. I was really only naming a few directors that I like personally but Spielberg is superb
I love Uwe Boll, because SOMEONE has to.
He doesn't play video games, but makes movies about video games''
-_-''
Stoic is like gold compared to his old works.
Tunnel Rats is watchable with some good sequences.
Actually, the man's improving, the majority of his upcoming films aren't video games adaptation, which is a good sign.
Maybe in 5, 10 years, he'll give us fine flicks who knows?
Not only does he not care for any of his movies, he can't handle critics well.
i like how he pronounces his name as "uweboll" as one word
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE COULDN'T BEAT BOLL UP!
Surely, there must have been more film reviewers who were physically fit! Shame that they missed the opportunity to shut the guy up.
I didn't know that there are fans of Uwe Boll.
I like how he thinks winning a boxing match justifies his side of an argument. He can win as many fights as he wants but his movies will always be horrible and no one can change that.
i agree
I nearly hung myself once after watching "Alone in the Dark"!
best guy on earth!
@VOSTFR Paul Verhoeven beat you to the punch on that. He directed Starship Troopers without ever finishing the novel. Most directors of Boll's generation wouldn't have had video games except for the old arcade games like Pong, Pac-Man or Donkey Kong...let us know if someone makes a movies on one of those games.
go uwe!
Dude, Postal was awesome!
Yes but he is honest and thats what I like most of him
Uwe Boll is the man!
"My name is Uwe Boll. I make movies".
All evidence to the contrary, Mr. Bloodrayne 3.
They said, "We are not going to sell our license to you, especially not to you!"
I don't think movies have much to do with ruining franchises. I think the blame is all on the devs at this point.
