⚠️ Chick Corea brings always the best of all musicians who play with him. Nothing repeats. That's the genius. The genius always makes something completely different and above all expectations. 🎉🎉❤
Steve Gadd Chic Corea and Eddie Gomez??? If there was a Mount Rushmore of jazz icons these guys would be contenders! And I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Steve Gadd 3 times,I briefly met chic Corea in blue note a few years back…………music is a gift from god. A message. 👌👌👌👌
total relaxation, controlled (huuuuge) emotions, staying in flow, WAITING FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT, play little, move everything, let IT happen........ that's it Sir Gadd.......
drummer doesn´t get better than this. it can be different (if someone else plays it because that person is a different drummer) but get better? no that´s absolutely impossible! this is good taste, incredible time and amazing chops in the best mixture you can imagine. thank you Steve for sharing your incredible talent with all of us.
who are the 9 thumbs down???????????? you just made me feel about life :) to know there are some schmucks that will never give it up, no matter what, Steve Gadd, have you ever heard a bad note from him EVER??? geez
Never a letdown with Steve!! Every solo is great!! I like his drum sound when he plays with Chick,a little higher tuning! This is a MASTER in full flight!! Very I nspiring!!
Finally!!!...Someone sees it like I do!! Same licks & bag of tricks!!! Gets boring after a while, you know!!!...I don’t get how people can praise a musician who plays the same shit gig after gig!!!!!
if there was one mistake in that entire piece, I couldn't find it. Within the structure of that song is so much improvising but it is so damn tight that you would never know it. For example, coming out of Steve Gadd's drum solo, the cue was so damn hidden that one has to ask, how did they know to go into that intricate figure together at exactly the same time. Masters every single one.
This is a great vid. Thanks man.Steve in peak form.I know he loved working with Chick because of the creative space, yet so tight. Steve will modestly say he learnt a lot from Chick's drumming ...yeah really.
Thanks! On your comment about influences: I agree. If I may add - I think Dennis Chambers is also in the list in terms of influence on music today. I think his (and Billy Cobham's for that matter) contribution is in introducing "exposiveness". You can see his style sift into the playing of the current top young drummers (of which Ronald Bruner Jr. is my favourite). But anyway - everyone is special. We are mature enough to not get into good, better, best. Cheers!
Thanks for the wonderful add tomgadd - your stuff is the best out there! Wow - never seen Gadd use a flat ride before...may even have two of them. And who'd ever think playing pinstripe heads in jazz - Gadd makes anything work - as usual!
I've know Steve since the mid 1970's and even after all those years playing with some of the best musicians in the world, he's as humble as ever. One of the most versatile drummers in modern times and always giving it his best! Come join our FB page and learn more about Steve and his fne career. facebook.com/groups/1659307287648135
With drumming there is technique (chops) and then there is the ability to be musical and appropriate to the genre of music you are playing. Gadd excels at this. There is a story about the make of this album. It is said that Chick did not have a drum score for Gadd.........so he said, no problem, make me a copy of the piano score and I'll play from that. If you listen closely to the recording many of Gadd's riffs mimic the piano's left hand. The guy is brilliant, beyond belief.
I think he was the first one I heard of to use a lead trumpet part with big bands and I think that goes back to before the Gap Mangione (Chuck's brother) record in the 70s.
All these cats that have come along after Gadd rose to stardom have done so because of what Steve has done, maybe with a little less technique but bucketloads of feel.Trust me I know what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
his solos are never extended and seem kinda short IMO (ikr ikr ! ... if u wanna see extended solos then go see ''The Master''! ) ok ok! i'm heading over to Wecklville to visit the mayor himself! XD
Yeah I have to say the main ride choice left me a bit "flat" as I love his explosiveness on his 18" cracked ride, and the way he can make it sizzle and cook at lower dynamics. Flats to me are a bit one-dimensional and are fabulous as second rides, but main, not my cup 'o tea. Yeah, I know...bring on the wrath of the Roy Haynes, Marcus Gilmore and Marty Morrell fans. I own two myself... K Light Flat Ride and a K Constantinople flat...just wicked sounding cymbals but just not my choice as a main since I can't get very "rambunctious" on them. But man, Steve just plays so creatively here. Never heard a guy with such a deep bag of tricks who can use that stuff to his advantage and not like a crutch. He creates ridiculously musical solos around that vocabulary.
Gadd ALWAYS serves the music; he has pyrotechnical skills that can blow away just about any drummer out there, but he doesnt get flashy. If there is anything close to drumming genius, it's Steve Gadd. The only other drummer I've ever heard withthis much MUSICALITY was Joe Morello.
I know it is not wise to necessarily compare drummers, but for instance, I LOVE Bozzio for what he does, but it seems he is always so in search of the MUSICALITY behind the drums, tuning his drums to notes, building these massive SICK kits in order to have all those "notes" at his disposable...but...Gadd is a musical genius with just that 6 piece kit you're looking at....
no, i'm not related to gadd family. i'm simply collecting over the years gadd-stuff. i think he's the biggest influence in contemporary drumming the last 30 years. vinnie colaiuta transported again drumming to another level. what he's playing is simply astonishing( jeff beck at ronnie scott's for example). although sometimes i think he's overplaying... nevertheless two really greats....
tomgadd Gadd built his career on songs . That's why his solos are so musical . Listen to Kate Bush 50 words for snow. She and Gadd recorded the songs Piano and drums and built everything else around that . [One of hers and his absolute best
Amazing drum work by Mr. Gadd!
Loved the Chick Corea FRIENDS album!!!!!
⚠️ Chick Corea brings always the best of all musicians who play with him. Nothing repeats. That's the genius. The genius always makes something completely different and above all expectations. 🎉🎉❤
Love the communication and harmony and total on point with Gadd and his fellow musicians!
Perfection personified!!!!!
A message. 👌👌👌👌
I like it
BEST SOLO EVER!!!🎉🎉
so many great drummers now (and back then)..but in my opinion Mr Gadd is still by far the most musical drummer ever to walk the planet.
he never really shows off like most drummers of his caliber. He stays within the feeling of the song
total relaxation, controlled (huuuuge) emotions, staying in flow, WAITING FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT, play little, move everything, let IT happen........ that's it Sir Gadd.......
Almost unbelievable? Mr. Gadd is a drumming rainbow! From one genre to another, from Chick Corea to Paul Simon.
THE greatest ever.
I've always said Steve GADD IS ONE OF THE GREATEST EVER
%im.Goldman.drumsolo
He certainly is!!
He is. Timeless! Well timeless time!!!!
👍🙂Everything's so tasty, NO seasoning necessary!!!
That's as good as it gets! Sublime. Chick somehow always brings out the best in Steve Gadd...
One of the most beautiful solos I have ever heard. Wow.

The true Master of the instrument...this is the highest pinnacle of artistry one can achieve.....so far!
MAGIC IN THE AIR,A MOMENT OF FRIENDSHIP WITH THE MUSIC,A PIECE OF HUMAN ART
steve god
The subtle stuff between the snare and hi-hat around the 3-4 minute mark is magical.
My thoughts exactly!! it's all about the subtleties ;)
Never a letdown with Steve!! Every solo is great!! I like his drum sound when he plays with Chick,a little higher tuning! This is a MASTER in full flight!! Very I nspiring!!
Gadd is light as a feather and smooth s silk. What and incredible drummer
Steve is a national treasure but he has played the same licks since the 70's and he was his best back then.
Finally!!!...Someone sees it like I
do!! Same licks & bag of tricks!!!
Gets boring after a while, you know!!!...I don’t get how people can praise a musician who plays
the same shit gig after gig!!!!!
Music on the drums!!
As its supposed to be !
I love the Quartets Band!! :-)
The crowd go crazy when Bob Berg begins to play at the end of Steve's solo... 👏👏👏
Awesome to sense that he's quoting the groove even when far out of the pocket.
Oh my Gadd, he's good!
👍The best!! I suspect Gadd invented "taste", as well as, mutant-beastliness!!!! 👍🙂‼️💙
What a beautiful touch.

@tomgadd
I agree that Gadd is one of the pioneers. Lots of narrative in his playing and he really brought rhythmic inversions to the forefront.

thanks for posting! Big Gadd fan.

Wow Steve Gadd.
Influences in contemporary drumming includes John Robinson Jeff Porcaro Carlton Barrett and Bernard Purdie in that conversation
steve was a dancer also, and it shows....
Wow! Gadd playing a flat ride! I'd not seen that before...
no piano black drums?
I’ve often seen it in print that Chick digs flat rides - Roy Haynes thing... I own a few. This video is blazing.
That is a sweet sounding K ride.
Yeah cos Steve's playing it! I swear.
Thank you tomgadd so much for posting! What a gem! Btw - Are you somehow related to the Gadd family?
Thumbs up --->☝ #506
All these cats that have come along after Gadd rose to stardom have done so because of what Steve has done, maybe with a little less technique but bucketloads of feel.Trust me I know what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everything started to make sense when the piano and the celo stopped playing :P
The final chord leave us with a question point
his solos are never extended and seem kinda short IMO (ikr ikr ! ... if u wanna see extended solos then go see ''The Master''! )
ok ok! i'm heading over to Wecklville to visit the mayor himself! XD
Gadd is pure gold. And the pianist looks just like Lou Reed circa 1992! weird...
sadly not. but i have do have a 90min version from japan TV.
Has anyone noticed they don't even look at their hands on their instruments . It's like a mind meld
See more on Steve Gadd on SoulDrummers . com.
monsters
Gadd with two flat rides ... a rare occurence indeed.
Yeah I have to say the main ride choice left me a bit "flat" as I love his explosiveness on his 18" cracked ride, and the way he can make it sizzle and cook at lower dynamics. Where's Brecker?
I believe he passed by this time. Bob Berg aptly replaced him before he too passed. We've lost our most influencial tenor players way too early.
Gadd ALWAYS serves the music; he has pyrotechnical skills that can blow away just about any drummer out there, but he doesnt get flashy. If there is anything close to drumming genius, it's Steve Gadd. The only other drummer I've ever heard withthis much MUSICALITY was Joe Morello.

anyone know the name of this piece?
Lickmereet Quartet No.2 part 2 from Chick Corea's "Three Quartets" album.
no, i'm not related to gadd family. i'm simply
collecting over the years gadd-stuff. i think he's the biggest influence in contemporary drumming the last 30 years.
vinnie colaiuta transported again drumming to another level. what he's playing is simply astonishing( jeff beck at ronnie scott's for example). although sometimes i think he's overplaying...

Gadd in his prime is like watching Babe Ruth in his prime.
I think he's still in his prime based on some videos of his more recent playing. Maybe even better.
tasty !
" les 3 seigneurs " ;-)
Chick with the calculator watch!!
Spectacular playing as always. The Maple Customs and cymbals here aren’t doing it for me.
Is so many good great drummers in the world but every time I watch Steve can't remember any I get Gad syndrome
Rick Moranis on piano!
Awesome playing.....
anyone else notice that he squeezes out a few little farts at 4:03 ?
That drum solo feels like riding a galloping horse.
Maybe it's like riding a racing car.
Avante garde musicianship! Truly exceptional... not quite Ariana Grande good(JOKE), but damn close!!!
THANKS TOM!!!MY CHANNEL IS...... A CLOCKWORK DRUMMER
fuck , havn't heard any drummer that could be this much lyrical and harmonic approach in his solo
not even weckl , vinnie
Epic solo
Weckl studied Steve to death. He's a genius but Steve is the original genius,
Chick's fashion sense distracts from the music...Gadd is so seasoned here, the dynamics and control are insane.
His Musical Sense more than compensates don't you think?
Feast your Eyes ...............................th-cam.com/video/YqXvrVX6lU4/w-d-xo.html
No it doesn't
its chick corea
Gadd is ok but he's no Ringo : )
Wow Steve Gadd
