I had an open bite but I didn’t need jawline surgery. The orthodontist actually said I have a perfect jawline and bone structure which he said was very rare! They actually said I was one of their perfect patients! I now have a very beautiful smile and I’m very happy with my smile it only took 18 months to finish my treatment!🙏🏼🙌🏼😭
I use these on upper ACS and lower RCS 18x25 NiTi wires, but I had a patient who developed severe root resorption of her upper incisors and I cannot figure out the reason. was it the wires or the elastics or something else? I also when I need anterior elastics on unhooked incisors, I leave the disto-gingival wing of the bracket untied for the elastics.
RCS/ACS wires Do flare teeth so I guess you'd have to check the pre-op pano and ceph to know? sometimes this can just happen in braces without any special wires. sorry to hear that but it does happen!! LMK if you ever need help with a case- we help docs 1:1 too
I’m on my last months of braces and my bite is aligned and my open bite is closed. But there a bit of space when I close my bite on both sides of my canine teeth. I’ve address this to my dentist and they told me to do zig zag shape (from canine to first molar) with heavy elastics, but it’s been 2 weeks and it only slightly helped.
Hi doctor. Thanks for your great videos. Appreciate if you can help me. I got my brace in March. I have open bite but my doctor didn't make any tests for me to make sure I don't have current habits 🙃 I used to push my tongue towards while swallowing but I changed this habit to the right way. My question is how can I make sure that it's gonna retain? My doctor seems not aware of this part. She's just working on solving the current situation as is.
I would recommend consulting with an OMT- you don't need your doctor to set this up. You can do this on your own and there are ones online who can help you. Here's more- th-cam.com/users/Straightsmilesolutionsorthosearch?query=OMT
Hey I've only had braces for almost 3 months and I used to only have an overbite and now I have a gap between my top and bottom basically a open bite is that like normal if that happens with braces. I havent gotten rubber bands or anything I just began having a gap between my top and bottom teeth out of no where which is kinda weird
Is it possible to stop tongue thrusting? If so, would braces & elastics be enough to correct my anterior open bite w/o surgery? Back story: My anterior open bite includes all incisors & stops with the canine teeth (12 teeth total). I've had an anterior open bite & tongue thrusted all my life (I'm 32yrs old & still have mamelons). I don't have a single memory or childhood photo of my front teeth ever touching. The width of my bite is similar to the video but slightly smaller. I also don't have as many gaps between teeth (just a very tiny gap between the front top 2 teeth).
Usually no- you need to eliminate the habit too. Find an orthodontist who has experience with myofunctional. If you aren't sure be sure you get a few opinions. You are also welcome to join our FB group for support- facebook.com/groups/452613991914248
If have space on upper & Lower front tooth in case open bite.. need space closure first ? Or settle to close open bite use box elastic and triangle elastic ?
They gave me elastics the other day for the front teeth it goes to 6 teeth and it gives my gums a cuts and also a blood cloth I can't even sleep at night I don't know what to do. I put cottons for my gums is that okay?
I would call your doctor and see if you can change orientation or size to avoid that ultimately. A slightly larger or smaller diameter elastic should fix that. What size and strength are you using ? It's on the bag.
What about tounge thrust? My bite is still open and they keep giving me bands but it isn’t closing. I’ve have 5/16 bands heavy set boxes on the canines and teeth next to it with a thick wire. This is my second year with braces and I’m getting frustrated with myself and orthodontist. Will it never fix?
I have a tounge thrust and my Orthodontist put an appliance in my mouth called a tongue stopper. I've had it for about 2 months now but I've had my braces on for about a year now. I do still have a open bite but today I just got my elastics on and I'm told these are suppose to help the bite close. Did they at any time give you a tounge stopper?

How does elastic maintain the bite? I mean, when bite is corrected and othodontist ask to stop wearing elastic rubber band, will the bite maintain that way? Im dying to know
Well it depends on what it was used for but often it doesn't- watch all my other elastic videos here- th-cam.com/users/Straightsmilesolutionsorthosearch?query=elastic
Hello, I just received “rainbow” elastics and can’t find much online about what that does to correct my bite and am looking for more info. My elastics now go from one bottom k9 up and behind my two front teeth to my other bottom k9 in a rainbow shape and I was told to only wear them at night. Can you explain what this is suppose to do for my smile? Thanks!
Hey everyone! Check out my journey to closing my open bite it used to look just like this three months ago no surgery braces Palatal Expander and Elastics ! ☺️
Please tell me I have already facing this condition I mean open bite 6m .. can I solve my problem with layser , crown Becoz I'm not interested in braces..
6mm isn't too much but your doctor needs to evaluate to see what was causing that and fix that FIRST- here's a video with more info that I recommend for talking points: th-cam.com/video/PTTL0a5r4SY/w-d-xo.html
Are the elastics the last step for braces? I had my braces for like 7 months I still have gaps and they gave me elastics sorry If this is a dumb question lol
I got braces in September I have an open bite but I got my elastics yesterday but the said that I would need my braces for 2 years so are they trying to charge extra for the false amount of time or will I need to have elastics for like 12 months I already see my bite is around halfway closed. Also, I have the monkey elastics 3/8 3.50ox and I have 1 rubber band which goes around all 4 of my canines in a rectangle pls help me.
Sorry, i really don't know without seeing you clinically but you can post your records at our patient-facing group here and one of our doctors can take a look. facebook.com/groups/452613991914248
Because most openbites are related to myofunctional issues (issues with airways, extra-oral habits, or intra-oral habits) and so it's a force we can't control
It really depends on the durability of your retainer but nightly only probably won't do it. You will probably relapse, yes. I recommend taming the habit. You can have a tongue crib embedded in your retainer if it is a hawley or doing myofunctional therapy.
@Mercy Fawole would you mind posting this in our FB group? We have lots of dentists who will be excited to answer you there. facebook.com/groups/452613991914248

Do molar bands cut tongue
It depends if they are properly fitted and if they have lingual cleats or not

that's a class 3 elastic to help an underbite but if you are only wearing it at night probably isn't doing much. Maybe ask your doc?
What would happen if you only wore the triangle elastics but not the rectangle ? Would the middle teeth not go inwards?
It really depends on the bite and the patient and the cause of the openbite.

Why are open bites most commonly associated with relapse?
Because most openbites are related to myofunctional issues (issues with airways, extra-oral habits, or intra-oral habits) and so it's a force we can't control
After doing treatment the teeth will not remain if the patient has a tongue thrust? Even with wearing a retainer nightly FOREVER??
It really depends on the durability of your retainer but nightly only probably won't do it. You will probably relapse, yes. I recommend taming the habit. You can have a tongue crib embedded in your retainer if it is a hawley or doing myofunctional therapy.
