I mentor High School students in blacksmithing and knifemaking. Your videos are required homework for the kids I teach. It is amazing how much they learn.
Tell your students they're lucky! I'm fortunate enough to have some great mentors around and I've taken/paid for a good deal of courses around me and I'm now considering taking a "smithcation" (vacation) and flying out to a smithy school. I wish I would have had the opportunity to learn back in highschool.
The problem solving methods you show here on how to get the flow of the curves etc. back to how they were ( or how you want them) are golden! I learned a lot more in this one video than I have learned in quite a while from numerous other vids. Your sharing of all these tips is very much appreciated so thank you!
Love watching you work. The way you make it look so easy yet you provide all the information a novice needs to follow the same method and produce a very good knife. Have a great day. Looking forward to another great video.
packed full of fantastic in-depth info! really enjoy your content, would love to see you show more of your finished blades, start to finish, Thanks for uploading ;)
After watching all your vids and subscribe realised I was doing my kak wrong! Greetings from a Romanian with loads of SA friends! Thanks for sharing and explaining clearly boet!
You have probably heard this a hundred times... I just can't hear what you are saying when you are pounding... I am really studying your technique and comments... Oh so hard. thank you for your videos, I still learn a lot even though I can't hear very well.
Another great tutorial! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was wondering what is the total time it takes you to forge a blade to this point including forge time? Cheers!
Total time is about 35 min. Actual forge time is about 6-15 min. Here is a link to a demo i did for some of my students a while ago ... th-cam.com/video/vZ_b7z6JMSo/w-d-xo.html
Rob Kayser the ring on the anvil has very little to do with what it's made from. Make sure your nail is properly cured to a steel or wooden base. That's it.
Best bladesmithing tutorials on TH-cam...not a wasted moment!
Thank you Sir!

You have a great personality! Thanks for the helpful instructions. It's interesting how many different methods there are depending upon the smith.

Hi, how thick and wide is your steel bar? thanks
Bliksem , ek't nou baie geleer in daai kort stukkie. Wonderlike werk. Dankie Neels - Roy Sparks.
What thickness is the bar stock you're working on?
Wow, I've never see anyone draw their heel out like that. Good idea.
Im a professional coach, and you mr bru, know how to teach . Thanks so much for these!

Neels, if you don’t mind me asking, what is the dimensions of the bar stock in this video?
6mm thick x 25mm wide
Neels Van Den Berg Thanks man.
what's the advantage if tapered tang over even tang?
What is your anvil made from? There's no ring to it- is that the anvil, or just your sound processing on the video?
Rob Kayser the ring on the anvil has very little to do with what it's made from. Make sure your nail is properly cured to a steel or wooden base. That's it.
How to do a taper without horn on the anvil?
How come when I forge the blade point on my substandard homemade equipment the tip splits open?
It's not your equipment. You are forging cold and THAT is what is causing the split.
What kind of hammer? Cross pein what brand and weight?
Kenedy Brand, 800g, 100g & 1500g
Very hard to hear what you are saying
the sound needs some adjusting
Wow! That's what you took away from this?
@@NeelsVandenBerg actually it was a very interesting process and the sound improved in various portions during the video. You are a fine smith!
