  • For our final installment of the SOFLETE guide to the Army Combat Fitness Test, Doug and Christian discuss the merits of training for the two mile run. They don't agree on much, other than running is for cowards.

    So as a kinesiology grad, freaking THANK YOU for what you said at the 2 minute mark. All my friends coming out of the service with blown out knees always talked about the constant 5 mile runs, multiple times a week. It's as if other cardio doesn't exist in the military. Hell, swimming for 30 mins to an hour would be great and low impact

    Let's be honest. The ACFT was made by a bunch of cross fit officers. And want to flex on dudes with a 2 mile run after doing 5 events

    When I heard "meet me outside, we'll show you how it's done", I had a flash back - my legs started shaking and my butt hole clutched up lol. You never want to hear that from two NCOs lol

    In Norway you got different tests when it comes to running.
    At MJK ( Seals in Us)
    5km with 9kg ( backpack):
    Minimum time 25m, competive 22.
    15 km rucking: 20kg back pack and + weapon
    Max time 2.5 h
    Not sure about competive times here.
    This is done at the same day
    Fsk ( green beret in Us)
    Rucking: 30km
    22kg back pack + weapon and water + food. Total weight 28kg
    4h and 40 min
    Rectangle run
    2 sides is 15 meter
    2 sides is 7
    On 15 meter sides you gotto hit your chest
    7 meter side. Your back
    1 round is all 4 sides.
    Total rounds minimum: 32 in 10 min

    Monitoring your HR is also important. Maintaining 140-160 (can be adjusted for age and shape) for 5-10 minutes will help condition your body for this type of running.

    Also, fix your shitty stride, and get the right shoes!! When I was an instructor at SWCS, I saw a lot of experienced team guys who had been running for years with really poor mechanics. I was lucky enough to have a professional trainer help me rebuild my stride from the ground up, and even though I used to max out my 2-mile run score, it improved my running. And, if you choose running shoes based on whatever is sold at the PX, go to a real running store (if you can find one), get some expert advice, and choose a shoe that is right for you and fits properly!

    • @Innominat9
      @Innominat9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What would be good cues they taught you as to how to fix your stride ?
      I am planning on doing the ACFT soon, I am rather strong, but also rather heavy (220 lbs for 6'1) . I am having difficulties with HRP ( as they are actually different to benching I feel) and running (I haven't timed myself yet, but I don't think I will do well given my weight).
      Sorry to ask, it might help a lot. Thanks

    I just erased a long commentary on my thoughts on the new PT test. Erased it because it doesn’t apply to me anymore. One thing hasn’t changed, higher ups (officers) making changes to standards they never exceeded and setting standards that will never apply to them.

      @Mister Jane Doe back then all you had to do was situps and pushups before the run. there are a lot of cardio events and other events that challenge with minimum breaks

    The 2 mile run is such an odd event to test. It should be 1.5 miles or 5 IMO. 2 is just a weird distance. But tradition I suppose.

    • @michaelhorita6377
      @michaelhorita6377 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      R.E Factor it should be a 5k

    • @R.E.factor
      @R.E.factor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Michael Horita I don’t think a 5k is a good test distance either. 1.5 seems to be a sweet spot in terms of testing a persons cardio vascular fitness without overdoing. There are studies that point to the 1.5 being a better distance than 1 mile, 2 mile and 3 mile. And obviously that is counter to my proposal of a 5 mile run but the reason I include it is I think it’s much better test of cardio endurance compared to a 2 mile run.

    • @theslayerr970
      @theslayerr970 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ijdiaz1 don’t speak about the army when you don’t know jack shit. The max was set at 13:30 because the new ACFT has the run as the LAST event after a 3-rep deadlift max, hand release pushups, sprint-drag-carry, leg tucks, and weight ball throw. You are going 100% in all those events and after all that you then run the 2 mile. Good luck buddy. The max for the 3 rep deadlift is ~400. I want to see someone run a 13:30 after doing that weight 3 times.

    the real standard is 11:54, which is a mirrored 911, not many, officers or NCO, know much about the significance of numerology in warfare. When I went through Q course they did not adopt the standard change and stuck with sub 12min for a reason even though few achieved it
