    A wonderful collection of classic polyphonic synths. From some of the synths you showed I personally prefer the earlier models like the Oberheim OB-X and OB-Xa instead of the OB-8 and Roland Juno 60 instead of the Juno 106. But they're all wonderful.

      agreed - juno 6 would have been preferable & I am not so knowledgable about the ob-x series

    • @MacXpert74
      @MacXpert74 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@AndyWhitmore The OB-X is cool because it uses discrete components instead of the Curtis chips. It has a 12 db filter similar to the earlier SEM modules. It is a bit less flexible in modulation options compared to the OB-8, but it has that typical powerful sound you really only get with discrete components. The OB-Xa is more similar to the OB-8, and uses the same CEM chips, however it’s a little less precise and therefore sounds a bit warmer.

    8:55 incorrect, all of the MKS range synths are fully analog. The only difference is that the MKS-80 is the only one with VCOs instead of DCOs (which are still analog oscillators). All certainly more analog than the Prophet VS presented first in the video 😅

    Got a chance to play a CS-80 a few years ago at the Yamaha booth in NAMM. Interesting animal. Due to the size, weight, value and no midi, not really conducive to play 'anywhere' but in a studio. This is where I would use VST over a real one. I did own the MKS-80 & MPG-80 and it was great & all, I sold it. Kinda wish I would have kept it but my heart was intent on getting an OBX-a at the time (which I did). Other than my DX7 II FD, all my older original gear has been sold. I did buy re-issues of the ARP Odyssey, Prophet 5, OBX-8 and the Minimoog. Still wish they would do the Jupiter 8 but they love their cloud......

    Back in the early 2000s, a good friend of mine said to me that he thought all that any good musician would need in their arsenal was one analog synthesizers. When he said that, the one that my head went to was to the OB-8. Later on, I discovered that the OB-8 was like an undesired stepsister at the prince’s ball compared with the OB-Xa.
    Shortly behind it were the MKS-80 and (the only Sequential model that ever tempted me) the Prophet T8. All that, and I didn’t realize I already had a perfectly adequate model at my disposal, one of the unsung heroes of the 80s, the JX-8p.

      It’s a truth, Andy. My reasons for resisting embracing that model (which I still played copiously whenever my mentor would lend it to me) were that the filter did not self oscillate and you couldn’t send an external audio signal through it. Neither of those reasons is legit.

    Is it hard to find room to store all these bad boys? 🙂🎶

      Yes it is - in fact I would have a lot more synths if storage wasn't a problem - I get offerred so many great synths & I always have to think about space before saying yes or no! - Thanks for watching!!

    No, Prophet VX doesn’t belong. If it belongs because it has analog filters, the. The Emulator II+ or DSS-1 should be in that slot.

      @AndyWhitmore  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fair enough - I included the Prophet VS for the same reason I included the Juno 106 - but I take your point!!

    There are some trophies for sure,, But I would not like to try to keep up with old, failing parts, some of which are very rare, hard to find parts. If these were made today, I would no doubt acquire many of them, but I really don't want a 40 year old piece of hardware. Could you imagine the sales that would be generated if there were reissued of the Jupiter 8, OBERHEIM Xpander, Yamaha cs-80, PROPHET vs, Alexis Andromeda A6, and even a Casio CZ series board.How cool would that be ?

    • @AndyWhitmore
      @AndyWhitmore  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      whilst i agree with you - whenever they make a re-issue - they always make them too perfect -( see my minimmog vintage vs re-issue video) which - so far - is why the originals still stand up - however - the re-issues are so close now - its not funny!
