  • Playlist to the Spirit of Christmas Collaboration with Second Chance Ohana and many other TH-camrs who are GIVING AWAY their pieces to those in need: • Giving Back, A Cabinet...
In today's episode I am refinishing 3 second hand projects that came from yard sales, Goodwill, and the curb. First, is a curbside table that gets a fresh and modern look. Second is a totally trashed wooden box that we turn into a high end custom upholstered ottoman. Third we have a very outdated Bob Ross style painting that I give a new look for super cheap!

Heard that hubby used undiluted bleach, which should never be used on wood... bcuz of what happened. It goes below surface & continues degrade the wood.
Fyi - it only takes 4 drops to make safe to drink a quart of water when out in the wildnerness... ie: germ destroying!

      Hello Desert DIY,
I’m not to sure if you know that once a month in Glendale, Az they have bulk day. I’ve found soooo many nice stuff. So it’s goes first week of each month. Everyone puts stuff on the curb of their sidewalks that wants to be picked up. You might want to check if other cities do it to. Hopefully this help’s out.

This was an outstanding video, Cory. I was touched by the glimpse into your kind and loving heart. You are a great example for your viewers and Americans in general to follow.
Thanks for your continued support of the young people growing up in the system. This group of youngsters frequently needs a helping hand in order to get started in life. Most people don't know that a huge number of individuals spend their lives in the foster care system. IMO, these youngsters are an invisible and forgotten group in our society.
Kudos to you and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

If you don't know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour please call on him now. Ask him to forgive your sins and save you. Then live for him and obey him. He loves you and wants you to be a part of God's family. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by him. I love what you did with all the projects. I think you need to call your 'oops' paint Desert Sand. It seems appropriate...
The chest almost looks like it could have been a shipping crate that someone turned into a piece of furniture. You know, people used to do things like that, because you would never waste good wood. I could be wrong, but I have a chest that was a WWII ammo chest in a former life. My husband was using it as a tool chest for years. When he got ready to upgrade, he asked me if I thought I could use it for anything. Smart man! He knew I would!
I think it is wonderful that you and your husband put all that time into making these pieces over, for someone else. Y'all show the true spirit of giving.

Your a fantastic person!! I’ve been doing furniture redoes probably longer than you are old. 🥴. Try putting silicone in those crazy routed lines they used to put on old furniture. That is if you just want to stain the piece. I don’t have the gumption to work at it like you do anymore but if I keep watching you I might get back into it 😊. Thank you for the videos and your kindness to others.

That spray adhesive is toxic. It should be done outside. Not good to breathe at all!

Cory , I have been watching your videos for a while now, and even though I don’t comment much, I must say that you both are such a blessing to others. You have such a unique and wonderful ministry…you both give of yourselves for others freely. Isn’t that what we are to do…emulate the love of Jesus, so that others see Him through us? Thank you for another great video, and I must say I did see the other video where you painted the other furniture for her and everything turned out awesome! God bless you all!

I’ve just learned about helping foster kids who age out of the system through a friend, so I was thrilled to see all that you do for some of them! God bless you! I hope to be donating items very soon, as well. (Just no diy jobs for me- I’m unable to move around like that anymore!)

May I add that perhaps felt or gliders on the feet of the trunk so it doesn’t gauge floors. And maybe a plastic tote for inside so goods stored won’t be snagged. My mother had an ironing board that opened to a square on the pointy end….wish I had snagged that. Look for one while thrifting….the covers were hard to find but I do believe she found one in the Vermont Country Store catalog…..the actual paper one.

Using water is not good for wood. A carpenter once told me, water was the natural enemy for wood. We did use the pressure hose once on our ceiling (made of old wood) to wash off spider webs etc and there is a door, with wooden veneers Stuck on, which got unstuck with the water, kind of bending a bit, and he told us that was the reason! Watch yourselves when it’s the case! 😊😊😊

FYI oops paints are tinted to not be anywhere near the original color ordered. What would stop my friend from going in right after I returned six gallons of premium paint and pay $5 a gallon for it. That being said I got bathroom paint that is usually $40 a gal for $5. I had looked at the marine board for so long that I kinda got used to the color.

What a great idea to tone down that painting. I have several that were painted by my mom, her sister, and their dad. They are all a style very similar to your painting, so now I know how they would look. Thank you for the fabulous tip. I love your videos, your voice is so soothing and your work is always inspiring. 😁

You are inspiring and have encouraged me to also help others. I would like to suggest that your seating trunk have air holes added discretely in case your babies get shut in it. I grew up with a similar size chest my grandfather made. Mom caught us using it for hide and seek before any of use were suffocated among the pillows and blankets

If you are finishing furniture for home with toddlers, maybe rounding sharp corners a bit? And furniture footies/pads for furniture on hard floors especially for renters?

You and your hubby are doing the right thing for sure. The Lord says as you care for the least of His brethren, it is as if you are doing it to Him. So, that’s why you and your hubby are blessed. You’ve got this!

I would’ve gotten a swatch of that paint color and taking it to Home Depot or wherever you got that and find out the paint color because you can’t simply paint something and not tell us what the paint color is
