I'm very glad you made this video since you are genuinely an important figure within the sky and beta-testing community for the game and this could bring a greater attention to the issue to the devs and also to players who many not care or pay attention to cosmetics.
I share much of the same thoughts as you about prices, especially about some of the solely decorative props as well as how candle farming has gotten bad. The season of Remembrance is particularly egregious to me because the focus of any season is to get the cosmetics, while they have story the story quests are weekly and farming for SC is a daily task, which just feels tone deaf when their are multiple wars and political conflicts happening front and center right now. They're not donating anything of the profit they make from that season to relief efforts or other charities and while the timing of the season could be coincidence it just feels inappropriate.
i have not problem with their charitable cosmetics being expensive IAP because its a donation but this season feels like their just pocketing off peoples suffering.
I highly suggest you check you the 'tgc critical' tag on tumblr, its very in active but has some people saying much of the same thing.
Also if you do make another video critizing tgc you might want to look into the TOS about fan art and the claims that some in game designs were heavily inspired by fanart and other similar things (without the creators premission). Essentially their TOS states that any fanart/creations you make are free for them to use without premission, and from my understanding you cannot opt out of this in any way if you want to make fanart.

This was true for the winter event too! Having to spend 120 candles on a snowman bucket was insane and 50 for the smallest of face items when a WHOLE CAPE was once 70. They are going crazy with the pricing.
edit: also for the people who love to say "you don't have to get every item!" well... if you started earlier and were getting EVERY ITEM because they were being drip-fed to you slowly... How is that unfair for the new players to also want a chance to get every item if they grind hard? But with the cost of things now it is LITERALLY not possible. Think about it: if they miss out on items this year then next year they will still have to get the items they missed now PLUS the new items that come out. It's an impossible thing at this rate!

    • @esme5722

this system with constantly introducing cosmetics and with the never-ending amount of possible ts slowly but surely been going to where we are now; new players obviously want to have all these things, the "you don't have to get every item" rhetoric might work in other games but sky is built around dressing your character up and getting more currency for future cosmetics. it has ALWAYS been a silly dress-up game, but now there's a giant divide between someone who started last month and someone who's been playing since launch. it was bad during early seasons too, i joined during android launch, started to play actively during enchantment, and collecting candles was always a struggle, but nowhere near what newer players now have. my and my friends' biggest issues were completing the realm constellations and occasionally saving up to 150+ candles for ts and some events. the amount of exclusive things you could get was relatively small, even with drawbacks like redundant wax system (had to run full cr daily) it was still doable and not too overwhelming
if i joined now, i'd quit. like it's just depressing idk. i would join, naked and broke, and as much sky community likes to say the game is all about friendly interactions and making friends it's not really true, you'll still have to go to other related platforms to find a buddy to play. and then what? as i said, sky is and has always been a dress-up game. it's about creating your avatar and grinding to get new stuff. it's a little bit sad joining a game revolving around these kinds of things and realizing that you have nothing, and the chances of you getting things you actively like and desire, be it something you saw on other players (if they're generous enough to light your candle) or some item you've seen in discord or wiki or whatever, might take months to arrive, and it's totally random every time. i would quit, i wouldn't think it was fair. i already felt bitter knowing i missed on some pants during my moth stage, i can't imagine how i'd feel as a new player now. and with the prices going up, with tgc doing things harder for average player, removing afk spots, yeah it's uh not looking good chief
sorry for this rant too. got a lot of pent up anger about this game and its' mechanics and recent changes. i'm still low-key mad they've changed the way friends' stars look in the constellation now too, like i cannot tell the difference

@@on3zt2ey9c As someone whom started about a year ago, totally can confirm, I'm so burned out from this game. I barely care about candles anymore or missing something since I know I won't have the candles for it even if I grind. It's just sad, I really only play to see one real friend that i made who gave me a season pass for Shattering, but I barely manage to see them because of timezones. And I also think they haven't been active either...

    • @on3zt2ey9c
      @on3zt2ey9c ปีที่แล้ว +21

@@artistbug7562 lmao yeah same. i have dropped the game for 5+ month periods at this point. i have two friends who i've been playing with since the very first month, and we've all been through burnouts, and all are playing occasionally, but nothing like before. the group used to be bigger, too; those people left and never came back, which is understandable. i think it's just that type of game. other than running cr, there's nothing particularly fun to do. in the past it used to be fun to explore oob, but now it's just kind of whatever, idk.
i stopped caring about candles and items probably when i collected the last ts from rhythm or the one before it, can't remember - it was either the juggler ts or the yoga ts, i honestly don't remember which one was the last to come. it just felt like some sort of accomplishment, and after that i didn't actively care about any spirits or exclusive items, and stopped buying passes, in my mind i already had anything i wanted. idk what else is there to do. i don't have any desire to play the game that punishes me for not having enough time to grind daily, i was so relieved when they reworked the wax system and when they added bonfires throughout the realms, it saved time. then they removed the afk spots, which is, well. a fun decision. but as you said even collecting those 20 daily candles feels like a useless task once some new item shows up and you see the price. it's not worth the time it needs to collect these, like cmon now

I joined consistently in season of Enchantment. From then on, it was every day for at least 2 hours. Even though I didn't make many friends at first because I love to be solo, I loved the game. 2 years later, maybe 2.5, I've thought about quitting so many times. Even as a vet, it can get very difficult to keep up with the events which seem to be coming back to back now. I cried during the first Aurora quest because it reminded me so much of my moth days starting the game. Going back and being so carefree and being kind for one another is really what we miss as you and Nasty said. I'll also be leaving feedback, but I don't know if it is too far gone already. It may be free to play, but the economy for the igc items is almost making it pay to win the cosmetics. I miss Sky from 2020.

Yeah, I've noticed a change in the Sky community over just the past year and a half (I started during The Little Prince), there probably is a more significant change for those who've played sky from the beta or even those who started at launch, but there still is a change. Yes, the prices have started to become absurdly expensive (I'd say it started around Days of Sunlight with the 90 candle tent prop) but thats just the economy. The entire atmosphere and interactions I've had have become more toxic and self-centered rather than the friendship and generosity this game was once created to nurture. Now its all about cosmetics and showing off that you've played this game longer than someone else or that you have the means to get something in-game with monetary value. People won't even stop and open the forest doors for each other, or light other people when a candle gets offered. I feel like this has partly been a result of the changes TGC has been making to Sky, but it is still sad to see.

Yeah :/ I have to say this out loud: I'm not a social type. From the beginning (I started in season of dreams) I have played alone with occasional social encounters. But now... I actually miss talking to people and making new friends. I literally run when I see someone I have on my list. And why? Because I don't have whole day to play and I gotta grind candles (which are harder to get nowadays, one candle less from my usual run so I have to do longer runs) in the time that I have to play. I still stop to help with the door, light a candle and bow but I no longer wait in the vault for people to open 4 players door, I just chibi fall because it's faster. I realised that I miss social encounters in the game (which is quite odd as for me) recently by the dragon which is so much fun where there are other players around.

I noticed something when I introduced some of my friends to this game a short while before Season of AURORA.
When they first started, they weren't as excited about actually experiencing the game as I was (I started during Season of The Little Prince). They were more concerned about getting the cosmetics to "grow up" from being a moth. It was like being a new player was something to be ashamed of.
I've been seeing this in a lot of the moths I've talked to, as well. The majority want help getting candles and hearts for the cosmetics, and not to have fun.
While the cosmetics are a big part of the game, it feels like the companionship and overall purpose of the game is being sucked away, and the new players are more stressed about something that shouldn't matter as much as it does.
I miss the old Sky... I still love to play it but it's not as fun when you *have* to play *every day* to be able to enjoy it, and not even to experience the connections the game was designed for.

As a PS5 player who started during the Season of Aurora, thank you and YES! I'm in love with the game and play every day, but I'm getting exhausted by the feeling that I HAVE to play every day in order to get candles and hearts. Seeing this new pricing it feels like I'll never ever catch up. I do feel the pressure to get better cosmetics because 1) cape and outfit envy! and 2) I've found other players are not always nice to moths. Most are, but I've had some unpleasant experiences offering other players friendship and since upgrading my cosmetics (like becoming a chibi) I've noticed less of that.

I joined during shattering, and I can confirm the "shame" in being a moth. I don't buy cosmetics I don't want and I only finished the fire trial recently because that's just how I wish to play the game. Yet, it's people will laugh if you've done Eden and you still have "basic" pants. It's not cool. I felt felt pressured to buy the aurora season pass just days before it ended, so I could have cooler pants, and stop looking like a moth. It sucks. Whilst I try my best to just play how I wish, it's hard to not feel pressured to grind for all the cosmetics. I remember during season of aurora, instead of doing the tasks, I would just make friends in prairie with my tier 1 cape and beige pants. I didn't like that season. Why should I waste my time getting capes I don't like ? Now, I just candle run all day. I barely have time to make new friends, as I need to hit 20 candles. I can't wonder around hidden forest anymore enjoying the music, as if I'm exploring a real forest. I haven't got time, I'm supposed to be saving up to buy cosmetics so I change outfits every other day :/

      Yes, this is happening.
I introduced my sisters to Sky at different times, while I have been playing on and off for 3 years (my phone couldn't keep up with the graphics for a while)
One was introduced just over a year ago, loves to spend time in the forest and prairie, and only very recently got more than a yellow cape.
The other, I introduced to Sky in December (towards the end of season of aurora). They are focused on 'not looking like a moth', and are using their time almost exclusively to get candles due to the 200 candle outfit they saw available.
It's even happening to me, I find it hard to slow down and hang out, when "I could be using this time to get those precious candles I need" - not just for my own cosmetics, but to recover the cost of sending hearts

  • @Plus1extra
    @Plus1extra ปีที่แล้ว +278

What nags me the most is how long me and I'm sure the community aswell has been with how predictable tgc is with travelling spirits. you can claim all you want that they're randomised. But you have nothing to argue against the fact that whenever a new event rolls around, where all the old cosmetics become available to buy, suddenly a super expensive spirit pops up at the closest thursday to the event. So new players who don't know, see all the new cosmetics available to them, go and spend all their candles/hearts and then when the ts or event comes along they have nothing, and that puts them in a situation where the only way they could have enough to buy the new stuff is to spend money to get candles. It honestly feels really predatory, and like it preys on new player's lack of knowledge, and how older players are all jaded and unfazed to it by now. Along with the whole collecting aspect of sky that is really pushed by the community, when I was a moth I saw all the videos of people with rows and rows of cosmetics and I thought they were so cool, and I wanted to collect everything! Now, I have a bunch of junk that I barely wear (yes some really amazing cosmetics that i adore, but also a lot of random stuff that I really didn't need but bought anyway because of this hoarding culture, and the pressure of cosmetics only being available for a limited time making you think you want them). Really think abt what you buy in sky, but tbh I think that yes it is mostly tgc's fault, but it's also the community for pushing this idealistic, nearly unobtainable goal to get all the cosmetics.

I understand controlling the ts to be weasel mask after Sky becomes available in a new console, cause its cheap for the new players, but purposely putting expensive things to happen at the same time just looks like they want to pressure players to buy candle packs.

      @JB-ew1mu ปีที่แล้ว +27

Yeah definitely not random. I've been saying this since the first few months I joined, during LP. SOMEONE SAID IT!!!!!!! Oh my god thank you thank you thank you! I’ve been so distressed about the state of the Sky economy for years at this point, especially as prices have been getting more and more predatory.
People *often* say that “it’s a free game” or “you don’t need to buy cosmetics to enjoy the game” when after your first Eden run basically the entire gameplay loop revolves around grinding for new cosmetics. New cosmetics are what drive the game, and it’s gotten to the point where playing Sky feels like an obligation or else you’re going to miss out and have to wait for something that might not even come back in the next 2 years.
I’m so incredibly thankful that you said something, it’s so impactful coming from you

I'm a 3 year veteran and watched how Sky evolved and I'm totally disappointed..the last few weeks was filled with me debating about what i truly am getting out of the game and if i should leave it altogether. The game used to be an experience, following lore, discovering hidden treasures, basking in music and being delightes in the kindfulness of a stranger. Now it's become a "keeping up with the Joneses". Everyone is grinding out to stay up to date with outfits, friendships have become "by proxy" type where if you don't benefit the other person in a way that they can elevate themselves, they then see you as a waste of time. I've been playing solo for last 1.5 years and it's been impossible to get genuine friendships, most are already deep into a clique thats filled with so much inner jokes you'll never understand. I've been told by people to join discords in order to have a better experience and what i found was even more saddening. Discords are filled with people using others to get as many candles and hearts in the quickest way possible. I see groups form around "shrine message planting" where 20+ ppl will like each other's shrine messages just to get a heart a week. ( These groups require screenshot proofs that you e cleared a shrine so they know they can "trust" you and win their friendship) give me a break. The game has become another rat race. It's so sad, the very thing that was created to let us put our minds at ease from the REAL LIFE rat race has become just that. I am genuinely debating quitting. It's not fun anymore :/

It is interesting to note the articles online regarding TGC's history as they've had to lay off multiple employees due to lack of funding after Journey, but hired more after getting money from Journey and completing Sony's Contract. They also got $160 million from Pixars co-founder. This is all for a company with less then 50 employees currently. And while they've said they're working on a new game, surely all this money is sufficient to fund it without draining Sky as a game? This has to change. (for the record, me and a few friends have played this game over 2 years, this is what we noticed) [ Also i apologize that i've basically written an essay lol! ]
    1. Growing difference between IAP and IGC prices (at first.) Now both IAP and IGC prices are insanely bad.
    2. IAP items being significantly better looking/ better use and IGC items poor looking/ poor use/ useless.
    3. They expect us to GRIND nonstop. Which is why afk spots were removed but now with current prices heavy grinding is also pointless.
    4. Insane IAP prices. You know its bad when an umbrella in sky costs more than an umbrella in real life -_-
    5. Insane IGC prices. 200 candles for swords pants, 100+ candles for a cape. -_-
What I feel is, sky should be more than a game for dress up/ flaunting outfits. Every single interactable thing has a price. It gets exhausting at some point. And now, the game is unfair to everyone: moths, intermediates and veterans alike! Many of us are in school/ college/ jobs, we are tired after a long day and we can't grind nonstop daily for candles, especially when its clearly not gonna make a difference anymore. Many of us, especially students cannot afford the insane IAP prices either!
I have some IGC item price suggestions. (Correct me if i am wrong here)-
    Pretty looking/ special Capes/ Pants 60 to 75
Average looking Capes /Pants 45 to 60 candles.
Items (practically usable/ large decor) 30 to 44
Items (useless practically/ average to small decor items) 15 to 29
As it is when an event comes it brings several items at once, not just one item. So you still overall use quite an amount of candles! But now the way things are, even ONE item is so overpriced. So voice out your opinions so they can be heard!!

Maybe even I would spend more time on it if it wasn't always about buying new stuff

Very well said! I started playing in aurora, I had no idea the prices used to be cheaper. Its really strange that days of bloom items are so expensive, theres a cap of 20 candles a day. It lasts about two weeks if I count correctly, which is too little time to get three of the items, let alone 4. And asking people to save up is unreasonable, theres also the current season, travelling spirits, making friends, and the constellations. I get making things expensive so that daily diehard players have something worthwhile to buy with their grind, but it shouldn't be impossible to get the items without buying candle packs.
Days of fortune is a good example of how things should be priced: its 2 weeks, which results in 210-280 candles if you gather between 15 and 20 candles daily. If you want to get all masks, its 255 candles. (About 60 each mask and 15 for the spells) Its a grind sure, but it's not unreasonable. I really expected other events to have similar pricing

They should increase the "max" amount of candles you are able to get in a day at this point. They have enough locations in the game that we should be able to collect 30-40 a day. Regarding paying candles to be friends: I think this mechanic does two very important things that I immediately appreciated when I started playing 3 years ago. 1) It facilitates consent and 2) it requires sacrifice. You are investing hard earned candles in that relationship. I would be sad to see those go away.
That said, the cosmetics grind is intense. I have up on trying to buy everything (IGC and IAP) a few seasons ago.

Those higher tiers are rather pricey though. 20+ candles a node. Either you sacrifice a days+ earnings or you feel guilty when your friend offers to.
One of you is likely to be spending more than the other on that friendship.
The very least they could do is have a split the bill option.
What I would prefer though, is a different currency. A currency that is exclusive to that one friendship, that goes up over time whist spending time together.
That would make the game far more about developing friendships, than avoiding people as to save up enough for cosmetics.

This problem has showed up long ago
When they introduced the rainbow pants last year, it's just a re-skin of the Jelly whisperer's pants
It was originally a IAP but changed to in game candles, which was 95
But the original jelly pants were 65, a whole 30+ for basically the same outfit but with small changes
Like for one, they're literally reusing the same model from the jelly pants and add miniscule details, which they used to make it PAID FOR REAL MONEY before changing it to in game purchases
And the changes are just them adding those cool rainbow belts to fit the theme, and also make the outfit SLIGHTLY darker (i checked and yes it is) so it isn't as vibrant
Why did they decided to reuse a model? Of course the Jelly whisperer themselves are part of the event but that doesn't mean that they need to reuse the same model but change it slightly
From the other rainbow cosmetics, they look cute and bright and pastel! While those rainbow pants are just a bit darker... why not make like a rainbow Hoodie/jacket? The other (paid) rainbow cosmetics give a feeling of casualness with the beanie and headset, so a white with rainbow accent jacket would definitely be more sought out for and would make the prices seem reasonable

"you dont have to get every item" while this is literally true, after playing though eden a couple time, collecting all the spirits and star children theres not much left to do. the only intrinsic tasks left in the game is farming for candles and buying things with them. sure there are extrinsic motivators like making friends (cost candles), exploring (many oobs removed), playing music (music sheets and instruments are cosmetics) etc etc. I know that games need to make money, especially if their free to play but insisting that people should calm down about not being able to participate in basically the core activity of the game doesn't take into account how the game is designed.
the devs could add more games (similar to the hide and seek emote), more ways to make art, puzzle areas that regularly update, races that actually have rewards for style or being fast, public chat areas, a "light all" button (please), so many things that could improve the end game loop from farming for candles and paying for cosmetics.

If you candle run efficiently, you can get more or less 20 candles in a day. That means if you start at, say, 0 candles at the start of Bloom, it would take about 11 days to farm 220 candles. That's nuts. Not to mention traveling spirits coming around during bloom too, so it'll take even longer.

And I'm trying to help my friend who recently is now even more broke because of the recent travelling spirit and bunny mask. But it's just so hard. I'm not sure if he would be interested in a rose cape. But what about any future event cosmetics that he may want?
It's just so sad to see a game that I would recommend to people that like to relax and play casually turn into something like this.
Why are they trying to encourage people to spend more money on their game when they already make most good cosmetics in app purchases anyway? Can't they let go one of their good designs for us casuals to enjoy?

THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS
How are we supposed to upgrade on friendships, share hearts and finish constellations (all being the main point of the game) if they're pricing in-game items so high?? Over a 100 candles an item? For what? So players feel forced to rush and buy candles in the store to be able to afford all these annual cosmetics? And what about travelling spirits showing up randomly? How are we supposed to know when to save candles? I try to play daily, get a minimum of 5 candles in a day just so i can have a steady candle count and also because i have grinded everyday in the past and i was this close👌🏼 to deleting the game because of burnout and annoyance. If they want to price everything to high, then make candle farming more productive and rewarding!!! Like with the bonfire in Forest, why did they change that? It was nice to have the bonfire giving off some candle light, where you can sit and idle while passively farming and maybe play some music. But no. Now you have to go and wait to burn some fireballs in order to collect light. Does everything need to be a chore TGC? Can't you just let sky kids sit somewhere for a few hours AFK while they slowly collect some light? I'm studying and working, like a lot of us, and we want to come back home and play a game to have fun and relax, but it seems the only thing to look forward to in Sky is the cosmetics, and if you were too busy in your everyday life to grind, or you just don't have a ton of cash to spend (especially players in weak currency countries), well sucks for you!! It's just expensive dress-up now. It's not inclusive and it's making players bitter.
Some recommendations to make the game less infuriating:
    1. Give more idle candle farming spots, and make the players able to collect even if afk
    2. Increasing the value of candle light. The feature they put in with the candle light value going down with every 5 candles was great, but i feel theycan upgrade it a bit. Why not make it 15, 10, then 5? If you play to complete your daily candle notches or whatever, that's 30 candles to the 15 now!!! A lot more rewarding!!
    3. Stop👏making👏small👏candle👏bunches👏 Like in the remembrance map, so many little candles spread all around, taking time to light and collect. Just make it one big candle cake for crying out loud!!!
    4. More candles everywhere, and darkness to burn, especially candle cakes. Especially in the main maps. It's tedious to travel to Sanctuary and the Isle cave challenges to collect.
    5. Maybe have extra challenges daily for normal candles? Like aside from seasonal, just have 5+ optional challenges to complete everyday regardless of Seasons.
    6. The easiest: just cut all the cosmetic prices to like max 70 candles each?
Sorry for the rant. i'm bitter and upset

THANK YOU FOR THIS! 🥰 This was so refreshing to hear you say these things. Please make more! It's validation that it's not my imagination and I'm not alone in feeling sad about the direction TGC has gone.
My favorite part is where you talked about them saying what Sky is about, yet, in practice it's really not now. Sky is first and foremost a BUSINESS. They are in this to make money. I noticed the price increases (and a change in the compassion and etiquette of the community) when it released on Switch, and when they collaborated for The Little Prince. Now they have expanded their platforms and there was the Season of Aurora -- which I'm sure cost them a pretty penny. For all the virtue signaling of TGC's mission statements amd Aurora's songs, they aren't in business for free. It takes money to pay the bills.
HOWEVER, they should be up front about this. I have firmly believed they are increasing the prices to force people to purchase candle packs. To think I used to think I payed too much playing Pokémon Go! 🤣
You CAN'T relax in Sky anymore. You HAVE to candle grind to afford everything. How can the new players possiblynsave up enough wothout spending unhealthy amounts of time candle grinding -- when they don't know enough yet to have an efficient candle grinding path?!
They claim to care about people's mental health and community, but they are killing that are every turn.
My heart is breaking for the Sky I used to know. I don't know how to fix this, but, all we can do is politely share our concerns with TGC and boycott these outrageous prices.
They will follow the money. If the community refuses to pay these prices, amd if we leaventhe game for a time, then the prices will come down as players leave their product for others.
I want it to go back to a time where we could afford to sit around and just relax and visit. How often do you see people sitting around playing their instruments fornpeople now? Instead, they do memory candles for hearts. There is no sitting down and making friends now. No one has the time, akd everyone wants payment bc things are so expensive.
Sky is moving in the wrong direction.

We might not have to get every single item, but once you've gone through eden, what else is there to do besides collect items? Dressup IS sky's longterm playability/game mechanic. Yes, please talk about the Sky Economy! I too have my personal Nit-picks and grievances with the system in place as well as the changes they made.
I’ve started playing Sky when Season of the Little Prince was about to come out. So I was a new and late lil Moff! I learned that if you hold on to your Seasonal Candles, they add to your Main Candles after the season ends. I found that useful and started grinding so I could afford to unlock Cosmetics I found appealing to me! Then I learned about Traveling Spirits, and oh boy am I cautious with how I spend my Candles.
Then I learned about how Important Ascending Candles are for the Wing Buffs as well as unlocking the Second Tiers of the Tier Trees of Spirits.
Already, I was annoyed with the tree from the beginning. I do not like that I have to unlock cosmetics I don’t want in order to buy the ones I do want. To me, it wastes the candles I have spent so much time collecting. I don’t even go on Candle Runs all that much anymore because of how repetitive it is and I would take long breaks because of them.
Now, while the Normal Candles, Seasonal Candles, and Ascended Candles especially are much easier to collect, my major gripe with the Hearts continues to grow!
Those are the hardest currency to collect in the game due to a multitude of things: 1 Trade with a friend per Day, Cosmetics or Items I don’t want blocking the second tier of Trees that cost 30 or more hearts; keeping me from getting the second Wing Buff, by far the slowest to collect.
While I’m glade the TS have hearts we can purchase while Seasonal Guides give us some for free during the season, it still bogles my mind that they are just so tiring to collect!
I really hope they can give us a better and faster way to collect this currency and fix the prices so everyone gets a chance to buy what they want. Honestly, drop the Tree and let us have the freedom to choose!

Absolutely, please make that economy rant video, Nasty. It is incredibly disheartening to see TGC's pricing changes; for a game that prides itself on social connection, it increasingly seems that spending $$$ (both in game and real) is their priority. As an older player I can easily keep up with the costs of new IGC items, but most do not have that luxury. One can argue for inflation, too, but when prices rise, salaries (ie. the amount of candles one can get in a day) should also increase. It's especially disappointing that the AFK wax places are now being removed. I remember when they were touted as a new way to play Sky without the candle grind - to focus on having fun with friends! Now it seems every new item is more expensive, it's harder to get a full 20 candles, and it feels very pressuring for those who want to get the IGC items but don't have the ability to save for everything. TGC might want to sell more candle packs - as that is the goal of these restrictive changes - but this desire is choking the entire community.
Please don't be afraid to make more critical videos of TGC. Your audience may come from the game, but you are not beholden to TGC, and as a prominent member of the community, you act as a voice for us all. Practicing kindness and compassion can still be done while criticizing parts of the game that don't serve the players - in fact, acting as a voice (and also catharsis: saying I feel this too) is key, and I for one would be very grateful to you for this service. Thank you, Nastymold.

I started this game during the Season of Aurora, and I haven't stopped playing since; but I've noticed this pattern in many F2P games: Once they start making IGC harder to get, to the point where you have to buy said currency in order to purchase purposefully inflated (currency wise) cosmetics that are not locked behind some form of subscription, that's when I know it's time to leave. Or consider leaving in the near future if change is not made. Which sucks, because this game is so wholesome and I would miss my little Skyling.

I'm sorry- 120 for the cape I just saw I want, and 100- ARE THEY NUTS?? Not everyone has time to do a daily grind, even with dragon going on, there's only so much of that wax you can get. let's not forget, the Traveling spirits that have been coming home costing between 120-200+ candles. Thriller was 125- what's next a 100-200 or more TS? Namely around Blooms?
I'm tired of having to get on, grind out my candles, just to make sure I'm on a comfy cushion for an expensive item. Trying to keep up - is already discouraging. 'Make sure you got 100+ for days of fortune, but also have a TS, but also prep for the next event, oopsies haha another spendy TS-' knock that off. It's getting annoying.
May they lower teh dang price but that's a SPIKE on pricing. 15 normal candles for the spells, 5 each is always the usual. Then 70 for the cherry, add 105, that's 175. Add 125, thats' 300 for just the capes. then for the prop, that's a total of 400 CANDLES for the capes AND prop.. absurd. Now add the spells, the 15, that's 415 total. And that's depending on if there's a traveling spirit during blooms and how spendy they'll be, and if you'll need to quickly grind out more candles for that TS, if it's a wanted one. Then it becomes 400+.

Yeah I also noticed the change.. I started playing in the season of enchantment and ended after Sanctuary, the daily grind was just so much, I'd find myself loging in ONLY to grind. I remember when I started veteran were much more generous, I did my first eden solo and a sweet vet just befriended me when they saw the struggle and held me end through it all :') After burning out I left and only came back for Aurora, but seeing the price of even the seasonnal candle outfits made me loose all want to play (you could barely get an Aurora Cosmetic unless you grind seasonals for 2 weeks!! ) Made me give up... I started playing the new season on a whim but the grind is wearing in. As a vet now I don't bother doing Eden unless I need to, and usually I'm in a hurry cause I want to make a candle run, so I don'T really wait to help new players... it's a shame because making all so expesive means you can't really be casual if you want any new "rewards" (the cosmetics), it's go big or go home... I really hurt for the new players who get thrown in that rat race :( I wish the in game cosmetics were less pricey, if I want(or can afford) to give the developer money there's the special, in app purchase cosmetic. I'd feel more inclined if it meant at least I can realistically grind the in game cosmetics, but the way I see it I can't get the "free" ones, why would I spend money on the special, costly ones?

Thank you for this video! I would love another one where you talk about this more in depth. I have two jobs and don’t make enough to save money, because teachers in my country aren’t particularly well paid. So I’m already exhausted from working from 9 to 21 practically every day. I live alone, so I have to clean my house, do the groceries, wash my clothes etc. by myself. To open Sky to try to relax and see that at this point I have do the same that I do in real life (i.e. grind just to barely make ends meet) is quite absurd. I understand they need ways to make money, but with the amount of players I would assume the Season Passes and the IAP items would cover that. Why make IGC items so expensive? My best friend quit the game for this reason…

  • @robinlmaooo
    @robinlmaooo ปีที่แล้ว +3

ive started since the middle of season of aurora and i already agree with your rant in the video. like- everything’s just become so expensive now. these prices either force us to 1. candle run and spend our time and energy to get only 20 or less candles, just be be tired and burned out, or 2. pay up to get 60 or so of those things. ive tried to focus less on gathering cosmetics and dressing up, because ive met some really cool and kind people on here and ive even found some comfort characters in sky (spirits) that i really love, to the point where i want them to come as ts not because i want their cosmetics, but because i want to see them again, give them candles to make them happy, etc. is that weird? but i feel like sky should be that way, social and more focused on healthy relationships. not just- grinding every single day.
FURTHERMORE, im sure everyone understands we have more things than sky to deal with in life. candle-running is already tiring enough. what more school? what more work? what more other commitments that may be just as, or even more draining than this? i dont think theyre listening to us enough. or maybe they understand us, but theyre taking advantage of this and using our tiredness to force us to buy candle packs to keep up with things. “oh, you dont have enough candles for this ts? well too bad, gotta go buy a bunch of candles that youll spend up immediately or give us your precious time and energy!”
im mad. more than a little mad. but for the awesome characters and those few cool people out there, who dont care so much about cosmetics and items and candles, ill stay.

I’m a new-ish player (around 5 months) and with the arrival of Days of Fortune I’ve really experienced FOMO. No, I don’t HAVE to get all the masks from past years, but the social hierarchy of Sky makes me feel like I need to cr every day just to get the bare minimum of items. As an example, I recently bought the Ox mask for 50-60 candles, missing out on this year’s mask. I don’t have enough candles to afford the rabbit mask as well as the travelling spirit’s items that’s coming soon. You’ve addressed this really well, Nastymold. Thanks for bringing awareness to this exploitation of people’s time and money.

  • @kjhgf4670
    @kjhgf4670 ปีที่แล้ว +3

even tho tcg built a community that is so unique and welcoming, less and less the game is about the social aspect of it. i just log on, grind as many candles as i can, sometimes i happen to make friends while farming, then that's it time to log off. we'll exchange hearts without ever seeing eo again, done. mostly i just want the items so i can make cute ocs and hang out with my friends, but crs and keeping up with timed events for candles consumes so much time i barely get to actually be with them. then if that isnt an economy rant by itself, theres the overseas pricing problem i rarely see people mentioning. tcg prices are straight up UNFAIR if youre not american, they just "translated" the currency value to other countries and called it a day, not knowing the american dolar is expensive as hell. so sometimes you dont even get to enjoy the same items as other people not because you didnt have time, but because an adventure pass or idk an UMBRELLA is five times more expensive to you than to others :/

Thanks for chatting about this. It made me feel not so alone. I've been playing for a year now and started during a really terrible experience with COVID and being bed-bound. I found Sky on Pinterest of all places! I fell in love with the beautiful game and it got me out of my head during the sickest time of my life. Over the last year, I've noticed the price increases and it makes me so sad to see that the game that helped me so much - and probably many others - has become a bit cumbersome to take part in. I hope TGC hears us. I'd even be okay with less number of cosmetics if it meant lower prices - in candles and IAP so that we could all participate. Hugs to all the sky kids out there feeling this way too.

I'm glad you said something, I joined during shattering and I just recently have been able to reach the goal of 400 candles for the first time in the game. And Aurora really kept me in the single digits, I literally had half a candle on multiple occasions because of it and TS. I absolutely love the game and play it every day, but now I only hop on to cr and I miss the times where I didn't know much about the huge amount of candles needed for everything because I was actually able to sit back make friends and just enjoy the game. So many of my friends are taking a break from sky because all the gameplay is cr now and it really is tiring. It's no longer a game about community if all your players are just cr when they get on. I love the cosmetics because they make each player unique and it's an amazing way of expression, but it sucks when that's the driving force of the game. Especially when it's originally a beautiful game with an amazing community where communication and friendship is worked hard for and made to be more rewarding and intimate. I already found it hard to keep up and I can't imagine how it is for the moths I adopt to do the same. Something needs to change or they'll end up losing so many players and destroy the potential for gaining new ones. And don't get me started on IAP, they are incredibly overpriced for what they are. I mean $14+ dollars on any game cosmetics is crazy to me.

I started at the playstation launch and have been grinding everyday to keep up with all these events and cosmetics! I'm eager to collect items since I have basically nothing. I do a full candle run everyday including geyser, grandma, and turtle. It's fun, but exhausting. I was disappointed when I didn't have time to earn enough candles to purchase the 200 candle outfit from the Aurora spirit :') Since the season was basically half over when it launched on PS. Overall, I still love the game and enjoy playing!

  • @snowm1836
    @snowm1836 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This just feels like we are getting too many expensive days of ____ in a short time. Days of feast snowman was 120, the new rabbit mask is 66(?) which is more reasonable, days of love wedding arch is like 100, and now this 120 and 100 for days of bloom! And not to mention season of Aurora with the 200 pants and like 50 mask!
I don't really mind the ocational expensive item as long as the price feels right. for example, the snowman had a cool function, so it felt fair. But the wedding arch is way too pricey for what it is.
All these things have been back to back, leaving no time to breathe in-between (and that's not even taking into account for travelling spirits)

I agree so heavily. Because the wax changes were made for veterans to feel like candle running is easier. But now as prices increase, the candle running repetition that made veterans stop candle running is back. How am I supposed to enjoy candle running again when I realize I need to start running to the max candles everyday like three weeks before items go out of stock ( I'm missing out on the purple cape from days of bloom so to get everything I need around 320 candles).

Sky has become so money-orientated lately. Everything is too expensive that it seems impossible to have anything left to spare.
I remember in the earlier seasons, after completing a season before it ends while people are still able to collect seasonal candles, during those spare days I would be able to collect well and truly over 100 seasonal candles. Now I feel like I cannot get as many because there isn’t as much time left at the end. Just this current season, the second node in a spirit I was collecting was 30 seasonal candles! That should be one of the last nodes in the spirit tree! It’s way too expensive now.
Even items priced with real money is just WAY too expensive. In my currency, some items are priced at $45… way too much money to spend on a game on a single item.
I don’t really understand this, TGC is getting more money with all the new people joining, meaning more things will be bought. So why raise the prices? They are just getting the community upset and are pushing more people to leave/ stop playing the game. TGC should leave the prices of both in game currency items and real money items to be cheap! It makes Sky a lot more fun and less stressful.

I’ve been feeling the same way especially cus I’ve only been playing for one year so I don’t even have a single bloom cape and it’s going to be just impossible to ever catch up. AFK farming is gone and I max have time to play Sky for ONE HOUR a day, if at all. I have classes, work, friends, hobbies-a normal life! I want to enjoy sky, I want the cosmetics, I want to play with my friends, but during my one hour I normally CR and get less than 10 candles and talk to a couple friends very briefly. I CANT AFFORD ANYTHING and I don’t want to buy candles bc I don’t have a lot of money. I’m just a broke college student trying to travel the world it’s like TGC is making me pick one. Why cant I just enjoy both… :(

So I started playing sky just at the end of the season of flight (dec 2, 2021). I found it difficult but manageable to keep up with the events and season of abyss and shattering. Aurora was waaaay harder to keep up with and so far this season seems more relaxed like abyss. I managed to get the past year event cosmetics this time for days of fortune (first time I only could get one mask) but I went from 405 candles down to 100 candles so fast from aurora and then feast (couldn't get the table this year) and now fortune. I candle run until I hit grey and sometimes I'll even do more to get one extra candle. The only way to keep up for free to play players is to skip certain items and be picky with travelling spirits. After a year of playing I thought I'd have some savings of candles but everything was so expensive from feast. In the summer I almost had 800 candles (lack of events/cheaper events and all the extra wax locations from events). I'm now almost back up to 200 candles but seriously grinding every day for a year and I am just managing okay I don't know how anyone who is new would even begin to catch up without buying candle packs (which imo are way overpriced too - in canada even more than usd.) I don't even buy a lot of in game stuff and have been so fortunate to have received some items as gifts from friends out of the goodness of their hearts :') The wonderment of sky has slightly died as they continue making items cost upwards of 100 candles PER ITEM. It's just really not feasible. I would like to see a video talking about the economy of sky from you! I look to you for content that I can trust and as much feedback as we give we don't seem to be heard even as beta testers (where we are supposed to have feedback heard regarding bugs etc before things go to live - it just feels like a test run before they shove update from beta, bugs and all, to live instead of fixing them and then updating to the most fixed version).

Edit: Also do you guys know about the art theft situation?
In short, sky has took stuff from a a fanartist, claim in their TOS they can do that, and apparently done that multiple times and never apologized and ignored any person talking about this.
