Rocky George never given the respect of a guitar virtuoso. He had unbelievable speed and melody. For his contributions to thrash music, he dominated and Kerry King couldn't hold his lunch. Rocky can not only shred but switch up to bluesy rock jazz fusion influence and tear into a solo then play lead and back up. Totally underrated and never ever mentioned

I've been to over a half dozen Suicidal shows and was right up front against the rail at all of them (Except their tour with Metallica). Kinda funny but I never really paid attention to what was going on behind me.
Suicidal pits are good rough fun but when I say "craziest" I mean violent and that would have been Machine Head for me. Even a broken nose and concussion at Killswitch/Lamb of God show wasn't as brutal as Machine Head. Punk pits are usually tamer than metal ones but it depends what you're in the mood for. Last mosh pit i was in was Arch Enemy and Amorn Armarth, and At the Gates.
Rocky George was criminally underrated as a guitar player back in the 80's and 90's. His playing was fluid, clean, complex and incredibly intense. He was a staple in my daily rotation.

Their bassist plays in Metallica now. And Rocky was a real Hardcore shred hero. Some Hardcore definitely had some cultural overlaps with with the rap scene. Bunch of Latinos, blacks and white skater punks united during the 80s and 90s. Real crossover happening here. And moshing has definitely evolved during the last 40 years or so. Broken bones, shattered skulls, chipped teeth, dislocated jaws and joints. In the 80s it was nothing short of an alcohol fueled brawl with some fitting background music. 90s were hard too but the scenes had grown closer and started merging instead of fighting each other. By the 00s mosh had developed a kind of code of honor. Some unwritten ruled you should abide by especially in normal metal. Women are being protected from serious harm and molestation, fallen moshers are being helped back up on their feet, injured people are being escorted to the nearest medical tent etc. Also no karate and slam dancing in the pit. There are some of the more Hardcore and Beatdown scenes who don't respect some of these rules, but their behavior is mostly looked down upon.
For me the best Suicidal Tendencies album is "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today", killer riffs from start to finish and some of the best guitar solos i ever heard, fantastic album

Rocky George was simply on the level of Marty Friedman (Megadeth) and EVH (Van Halen). Masters of shredding. ST has not only some of the best punk songs on their first album, but they established many Thrash classics in the late 80s/early 90s
This iteration of ST was the best. Rocky George was unreal on guitar, Robert Trujillo’s pre-Metallica days, Mike Muir’s vocals, Mike Clark, R.J. Herrera on drums...so good. This is my favorite album of all time. Every song is fantastic.
ST was my best friends favorite group. Although I have been a metal-head my whole life, I never heard this band's music till now. My best friend passed away in 2017 and now I see how they influenced him. This lead singer's dress and style, my friend dressed so much like this. We had grown apart after high school, and reconnected years later. This brings him back in a way. It's bitter sweet.

Cyco Miko is actually pretty chill, he and the band hang out with fans before and after shows, punk and metal fans themselves they never forgot their roots, just some skate kids from Venice Beach area of S. Cali known as "Dog Town", now legendary in their own right for pioneering their own sound and style. "S.T. -Suicidal For Life!"
Moshing started off as "slam dancing" in the punk scene, sometimes with real brutality involved (throwing elbows, or bottles), but usually with just casual rubgy-style collisions and the occasional black eye. I hear the the DC scene was pretty rough in the 1980s and the DC guys would come up to New York and bring their maniacs with them and everyone was like "WTF is this?". In the 90s "moshing" was mostly just cooperative semi-violence that was supposed to be fun and more or less respectful (people watched out for other people) but it was always a crap shoot. I remember Green Day stopping TWICE as the first act at Lollapalooza and bitching out people in front for being assholes.

The last track is a song called Pledge your Allegiance off the How will I laugh tomorrow album. Which can out the same day as Metallica’s Andjustice for all album. I worked in a record store at the time and that day I swore I swim the lottery. HAHAHA Every concert I ever saw was from the mosh pit. Suicidal was my first tattoo when I turned 21. (1991) People are still caught off guard by that tattoo, that states I have Suicidal Tendencies. I remember listening to Suicidal Failure off their first album. (Self Titled) The blue bandannas signify the Crypts. Suicidal despite the name were a very positive band and still are putting out albums. The line up was constantly changing. The only original member left is the lead singer Mike Muir. The first album was the number one selling thrash metal/punk album of all time for a few years. Until the Stormtroopers of Death (S.O.D.) came out with a little ditty called Speak English or Die. This was a great time to be alive in that scene!!!
ST hit their stride when they got Rocky George and Mike Clark (the guitarists). Rocky's leads soar, and Clark wrote a majority of their classic thrash songs.

Interesting fact: Mike Muir the vocalist Is the brother of one of the original dogtown skaters who were the 1st to skate empty pools. There was a drought in Southern California so people were not allowed to fill their pools and these surfer kids took skateboards and broke into people's yards to skate the pools. So there's a big skateboarding influence in the Suicidal sound.
lol, just got to the end. 100% correct about what their shows were like. I first saw them in KY at "the Jockey Club" in 1984 and then like twice a year from '87 through the mid 1990s. In 1996 I got to open for them at Bogart's where I'd seen them play over 20 times. Great memories. There was a dude who would jump off the speaker stacks every show and ended up going to the hospital three or four times from that, but as bananas as it looks, the second you fell or stumbled five pairs of hands shot out to pull you up. It was a really tight scene and the adrenalin levels kept you from feeling anything until the next day. I really miss being able to do that!
I was a teenager when this came out. We were cranking Ozzy, AC/DC, then, this came out around Slayer time. Our parents and neighbors hated it. These songs would cause the most hostile basketball games in the driveway between friends. Black steel toed boots, leather jackets. We called it D Ball. Death ball. Good memories...And I loved the review.

Man I will never forget waiting for "Join the Army" to release. I saw a promo for it in Thrasher mag. It had been two or three years since they had toured and everyone in Ohio thought ST was broken up, so we were freaking out. When I went to the record store by University of Cincinnati to buy it on release day Mike Muir was there hanging out at the store. Fuggin nuts. What a great day.

Suicidal started in the early 80's as a"SkatePunk" band. They are from Venice, California (well most of them are). They have deep roots in the skateboarding world. Mike Muir's (the singer) brother, Jim Muir is the founder of Dogtown Skateboards. Their art on the boards was highly influenced by the graffiti art in the area they grew up in. They were voted biggest assholes by a music magazine at about the time their first album came out. When their second album came out, their sound had evolved more into a crossover thrash sound. Later in their career, they even introduced funk into their music, leading to the formation of the offshoot band Infectious Grooves. The guitarist, Rocky George, went on to play in other bands such as Fishbone and the Cro-Mags. Mike Clark, the other guitarist (at least at this time, he has moved on now) was part of another Venice band named No Mercy. Their singer flaked out, so Mike Muir stepped up and sang for them on their debut album (and only album), Widespread Bloodshed.....Blood Runs Red. Several of the songs on that album ended up being re-recorded by Suicidal and appeared on their album, Controlled By Hatred....Feel like Shit. Robert Trujillo, the bassist, went on to play with Ozzy Osbourne and has been a member of Metallica for quite some time now. They are still around and have actually been quite prolific, releasing several albums in the past few years. These albums have returned to the faster, more aggressive style that they were known for.

Watching you for the first time hearing suicidal and the way you enjoyed it throughout the song made me happy that you appreciate what you were hearing. And yes these guys had a sound all of their own. They made a big enough impression on Ice-T to blend into a metal band that wonderful band Body Count. He wanted something a little like them a little like Sabbath and a little like Slayer all into one. Ice-T even went as far to do a cover of institutionalized. Back in the day even up to now they're still the band that you probably would not want to fuck with and the fans too. Because like suicidal and their crazy selves their fans are crazy too. Sometimes that not give a fuck attitude can be easily lit with some suicidal jamming out and someone deciding to test you. I look forward to seeing some more of your videos in the future.

Suicidal Tendencies and Madball in Denver was one of the best shows I have ever been to! ST doesn't just earn respect from their fans, they DEMAND it. The crowd was wild, huge pits all night and just an insane amount of love in the pit from younger and older crowds. Nobody was getting hurt really, no fights, no drama just pure crossover energy! Suicidal For Life!
The older brother of the singer was a member of the Legendary Z Boys skateboarding team made famous by the movie Lords of Dogtown and the singer’s brother founded Dogtown Skateboards

I saw them with DRI and Wake the Dead (Mike Clark's band) in 2013 and that was easily the best show I've ever been to. It was at a small club and it was amazing. I even chipped my tooth in the pit and it was still the best
Gosh, it's channels like you that give me hope for the future. Long time punk and always felt that the institutions at the top survive by spreading discord among the "poor" or "others". When I came up, Punk and Rap were new and one. I'm really happy that young guns are coming up and appreciating the fight (we lost).

Suicidal broke off into infectious grooves and played with ozzy. Ozzy wanted to keep playing but wanted to run the show. They told him to get lost basically. Infectious grooves had a couple of albums but they still kept suicidal going. Some years after the bassist went to metallica. I'm an old suicidal fan from the 80s

One of my favorite songs and bands since they were punk/metal that came from the hood of Dogtown(Venice California) and the members have ties to the famous skateboarding team the Z Boys and the current bass player for Metallica

Body Count even covered Institutionalized (even thought they changed the lyrics), Ice even states in another cover that Suicidal is one of his favorite bands. Cannot go wrong with both song choices that you chose. Love both and good to hear that you liked them, and even you’re quote about the NWA of Punk makes sense, they were banned from a lot of places due to people mistaken them for gang members because of the bandanas and image
I've seen them 3 times live in my life and Infectious Groves (Muir and Trojillo funk/metal side band) twice. They were all badass shows with insane pits!

Awesome songs by an awesome band. You Can't Bring Me Down in particular. Rocky George kicks ass on guitar. Lights... Camera... Revolution! is an all time classic album.
The last track is a song called Pledge your Allegiance off the How will I laugh tomorrow album. Which can out the same day as Metallica’s Andjustice for all album. I worked in a record store at the time and that day I swore I swim the lottery. HAHAHA Every concert I ever saw was from the mosh pit. Suicidal was my first tattoo when I turned 21. (1991) People are still caught off guard by that tattoo, that states I have Suicidal Tendencies. I remember listening to Suicidal Failure off their first album. (Self Titled) The blue bandannas signify the Crypts. Suicidal despite the name were a very positive band and still are putting out albums. The line up was constantly changing. The only original member left is the lead singer Mike Muir. The first album was the number one selling thrash metal/punk album of all time for a few years. Until the Stormtroopers of Death (S.O.D.) came out with a little ditty called Speak English or Die. This was a great time to be alive in that scene!!!

ST hit their stride when they got Rocky George and Mike Clark (the guitarists). Rocky's leads soar, and Clark wrote a majority of their classic thrash songs.

that last outro song was " Pledge your allegiance" off of "How can I laugh tomorrow when I cant even smile today" Suicidal Tendencies was my fav band growing up. I remember seeing them at back yard parties. Cool reaction.
Interesting fact: Mike Muir the vocalist Is the brother of one of the original dogtown skaters who were the 1st to skate empty pools. There was a drought in Southern California so people were not allowed to fill their pools and these surfer kids took skateboards and broke into people's yards to skate the pools. So there's a big skateboarding influence in the Suicidal sound.
That outtro track was "pledge your allegiance". I was fortunate enough to be in the "possessed to skate 2012" clip. One of my all time favourite bands
lol, just got to the end. 100% correct about what their shows were like. I first saw them in KY at "the Jockey Club" in 1984 and then like twice a year from '87 through the mid 1990s. In 1996 I got to open for them at Bogart's where I'd seen them play over 20 times. Great memories. There was a dude who would jump off the speaker stacks every show and ended up going to the hospital three or four times from that, but as bananas as it looks, the second you fell or stumbled five pairs of hands shot out to pull you up. It was a really tight scene and the adrenalin levels kept you from feeling anything until the next day.

I was a teenager when this came out. We were cranking Ozzy, AC/DC, then, this came out around Slayer time. Our parents and neighbors hated it. These songs would cause the most hostile basketball games in the driveway between friends. Black steel toed boots, leather jackets. We called it D Ball. Death ball. Good memories...And I loved the review.
You're somewhat right about the NWA part because Suicidal was banned from playing LA up until about 89.

This was Suicidal Tendencies crossover album from hardcore punk to a more thrash sound mixed with punk. Should check out Possessed to Skate, Institutionalized from there earlier days, so many great songs they have in their catalog. Should check out Trip at the Brain, another classic, there bassist left to join Metallica & the former/original drummer in Slayer is now in Suicidal. ST Army 🤘
Man I will never forget waiting for "Join the Army" to release. I saw a promo for it in Thrasher mag. It had been two or three years since they had toured and everyone in Ohio thought ST was broken up, so we were freaking out. When I went to the record store by University of Cincinnati to buy it on release day Mike Muir was there hanging out at the store. Fuggin nuts. What a great day.
Theres an interview with Ice-T and he talks about how Suicidal started the Gangsta thing in music, back in the early 80's.
Yea, I was looking into that because the date of this band and the video pre-date NWA. I'm very curious to know how Suicidal and maybe the hardcore punk scene may have influenced early west-coast gangsta rap.

Suicidal started in the early 80's as a"SkatePunk" band. They are from Venice, California (well most of them are). They have deep roots in the skateboarding world. Mike Muir's (the singer) brother, Jim Muir is the founder of Dogtown Skateboards. Their art on the boards was highly influenced by the graffiti art in the area they grew up in. They were voted biggest assholes by a music magazine at about the time their first album came out. When their second album came out, their sound had evolved more into a crossover thrash sound. Later in their career, they even introduced funk into their music, leading to the formation of the offshoot band Infectious Grooves. The guitarist, Rocky George, went on to play in other bands such as Fishbone and the Cro-Mags. Mike Clark, the other guitarist (at least at this time, he has moved on now) was part of another Venice band named No Mercy. Their singer flaked out, so Mike Muir stepped up and sang for them on their debut album (and only album), Widespread Bloodshed.....Blood Runs Red. Several of the songs on that album ended up being re-recorded by Suicidal and appeared on their album, Controlled By Hatred....Feel like Shit. Robert Trujillo, the bassist, went on to play with Ozzy Osbourne and has been a member of Metallica for quite some time now. They are still around and have actually been quite prolific, releasing several albums in the past few years. These albums have returned to the faster, more aggressive style that they were known for.

Watching you for the first time hearing suicidal and the way you enjoyed it throughout the song made me happy that you appreciate what you were hearing. And yes these guys had a sound all of their own. They made a big enough impression on Ice-T to blend into a metal band that wonderful band Body Count. He wanted something a little like them a little like Sabbath and a little like Slayer all into one. Ice-T even went as far to do a cover of institutionalized. Back in the day even up to now they're still the band that you probably would not want to fuck with and the fans too. Because like suicidal and their crazy selves their fans are crazy too. Sometimes that not give a fuck attitude can be easily lit with some suicidal jamming out and someone deciding to test you. I look forward to seeing some more of your videos in the future.

Much like the legendary Bad Brains, ST changed their sound significantly as the years went on. I’ve always been more partial to their early tunes and sound, but there’s no question this song rocked.
Rocky George is the guitarist. Fun fact: the bassist (trujillo, now with Metallica) accidentally cut the tip of one of Rocky George’s fingers off. I think by shutting a car door on it but I could be wrong. Favorite band in high school in the 80’s. Check out ‘institutionalized’ from the first album -1983

Suicidal Tendencies and Madball in Denver was one of the best shows I have ever been to! ST doesn't just earn respect from their fans, they DEMAND it. The crowd was wild, huge pits all night and just an insane amount of love in the pit from younger and older crowds. Nobody was getting hurt really, no fights, no drama just pure crossover energy! Suicidal For Life!

ST is 100% influential!! Mike Muir now has the best percussionist on Earth in Dave Lombardo! Please look up their tracks: Suicidal Maniac, Disco’s out... Murder’s in, Human Guinea Pig, Subliminal, I Saw Your Mommy, Lovely, etc.
SxTx is one of the best shows you can see! Saw them two times, one of them I as actually working filming the performance.. Mike Muir was just at my side.. I'll never forget :)
War Inside my Head is probably my favourite song from them and the live version recorded in Paris in 2012 is one of the coolest things on TH-cam!

I saw them with DRI and Wake the Dead (Mike Clark's band) in 2013 and that was easily the best show I've ever been to. It was at a small club and it was amazing. I even chipped my tooth in the pit and it was still the best

Gosh, it's channels like you that give me hope for the future. Long time punk and always felt that the institutions at the top survive by spreading discord among the "poor" or "others". When I came up, Punk and Rap were new and one. I'm really happy that young guns are coming up and appreciating the fight (we lost).

At the age of 46 I am still slamming with the young kids.Suicidal is still doing it up. Still touring. You gotta listen to the lyrics. They mean something. It’s all about believing in yourself. If you can’t believe in yourself how anyone else?
Suicidal broke off into infectious grooves and played with ozzy. Ozzy wanted to keep playing but wanted to run the show. They told him to get lost basically. Infectious grooves had a couple of albums but they still kept suicidal going. Some years after the bassist went to metallica. I'm an old suicidal fan from the 80s

One of my favorite songs and bands since they were punk/metal that came from the hood of Dogtown(Venice California) and the members have ties to the famous skateboarding team the Z Boys and the current bass player for Metallica
classic old skate thrash !! they were pioneers . . . and 'impossible' to get any 'airplay' back in the day, so, sucess was difficult to achieve . . . the song "institutionalized" .... its gonna leave a mark . .
Body Count even covered Institutionalized (even thought they changed the lyrics), Ice even states in another cover that Suicidal is one of his favorite bands. Cannot go wrong with both song choices that you chose. Love both and good to hear that you liked them, and even you’re quote about the NWA of Punk makes sense, they were banned from a lot of places due to people mistaken them for gang members because of the bandanas and image
I've seen them 3 times live in my life and Infectious Groves (Muir and Trojillo funk/metal side band) twice. They were all badass shows with insane pits!

Happy to see youtube reactors picking up on ST. You picked a couple classics. ST for me (I was a huge fan at like 14) was more about their passion for their community and friends and doing your own thing not so much being a bad ass.
