Not only did he get the penalty call right, but what a fantastic advantage decision before Brazil's first goal. I bet many referees would have blown the whistle at the obvious trip, but he expertly let it play out and it resulted in a Brazil goal. Great refereeing all around.

I still have a VHS recording from Swedish Television from when they first released that footage from the camera shooting B-roll footage from behind the goal. They even have footage of asking the keeper Tafarel from the mixed zone whether it was a fair penalty and he said yes, it was correctly given since he saw it just as easily as the ref did. Such a nice vindication for the ref and it was nice that it happened so quickly since he was being killed in the media for that decision.

A really good call and the referee stands on the right position to see Baiano pulling the opponents jersey. Indeed, there was a reason to have some doubts about this decision, since from the perspective of the TV Camera there was nothing to see. Besides, it was a really stupid action by Baiano. There was no real danger in this action, so that he has to grab his opponent at the back of his shirt in the 89th minute.

Wow this makes VAR truly a scary perspective. The guy behind the screen has to be very careful and professional when showing a replay for a VAR decision, even if he has to rewind something like 3 min. back. Referees will rely heavily on what is shown on screen so a huge responsibility will fall on the shoulders of the people handling replays at the WC in 2018.

Despite the evidence that was produced "two days later" ... many still view this as a terrible call - one that robbed Brazil of another WC. I didn't learn of this "vindication" until almost a decade after the match. It's so easy to vilify a referee - and nearly impossible to undo the vilification that accompanies such a high profile call. I always respected Baharmast as one of the great referees anywhere. As an American - I cringed at the controversy this call produced (so often it was referred to as further evidence that Americans had no business in the game).

Iraq defeated Brazil, Spain, and Germany in the 1980s. We were a great team. Do not forget that we were the best team in Asia in 2007, and the second best team in the Arab Gulf in 2013 Iraq, the only team in the world, won all the world championships, everything was won to the World Cup. This is not difficult. Hard work and teamwork

Should've done this with 2 referees of 2002 WC who blatantly pushed Korea over Italy and Spain.
I think one of them was caught recently with some dope and jailed for long time.

Poor Morocco 🇲🇦.. was so oppressed. It’s obviously a fixed match between Brazil and Norway to kick Morocco out of the competition. Germany 🇩🇪 learned them a lesson ❤
