Wait, from what I remember, the inciting incident for Madara leaving was when he wasn't him losing to Hashirama but overhearing Tobirama and Hashirama talk and Hashirama wanting Madara to be the second Hokage but Tobirama didn't like that and reminded Hashirama about elections being how the Hokage is chosen. So I think Tobirama being chosen as the second was the actual inciting incident from what I remember of the flashback.

So that is all you need to know of his backstory and how he joins the crew and his goal is the be the strongest pirate ever.
