This song was simply amazing, and I think it's still my favorite Geoff arrangement (Thriller fighting for top spot). This was only the 2nd of three times (as of right now) Layne has brought out his violin and earned the nickname VioLyne. The first time was Warriors (a definite must see) and the third was The Lion Sleeps Tonight (just pure fun and another must see) The sound you were asking about was Layne (I believe it was Layne) doing one of his inhailed effects/notes (note sure what it's actually called), but for the filming it was decided not to have Layne beatbox and play the violin at the same time Yes, more Voiceplay please and some of Geoff's Solo works too 😁 Thanks for your reaction 😊 Hopefully your cough will leave you alone soon
They did this on my birthday a couple years back and it knocked my socks off. I made it my birthday gift although they don't know that. You won't have any problems with their videos - they are ALL good. For the Grammies this year, they have been nominated for 2/songs/videos with Hellfire being onefor acapella, and The Way You Make Me Feel being the other 2 - first for acapella and then for R&B best performance. Should you be interested, Hoist the Colours, True Colors, If I Were a Rich Man/Girl, The Little Mermaid, Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Valhalla Calling, I Can't Make You Love Me, Tennessee Whiskey, Drunken Sailor!
I'm so glad you got to this one! It's just so GOOD, and is still one of my absolute favorites (of many, admittedly) today! I'm looking forward to following along on your VoicePlay and Geoff journey!
Geoff started doing outros when he did "Till Then" on his channel a couple weeks before this was released. And continued to do them on his channel after that. He started doing them on Voiceplay videos not long after this video. I think the first was "Drunken Sailor" or right around thst time. Geoff is the only Voiceplay member that does speaking outros. This video earned the genre Metallicapella. No one could simulate the guitar solo so geoff decided to have Layne play his violin (VioLayne). The sound you heard during the violin solo was Geoff. And a shake of the camera. Layne played his violin in a few other videos..... "Warrior" was the first and where he got his nickname VioLayne. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". And another i can't think of the name of right now 😢.
This was my second VoicePlay video l saw. I got their Wellerman version in my YT feed and liked it a lot, so l looked them up what else they have to offer. There l saw THIS and my spontaneous reaction was 'How DARE they' and watched it with the intention of disliking it as this song is a longstanding fav of mine for almost 40 years. Well, l got from 'How dare they' to 'MIND BLOWING, this is by FAR the best cover l ever heared' in one listening! That was hook, line and sinker for me, that pulled me in the VP/Geoff rabbit hole and l think l will never get back out! So many details l love about this, just a few: The minimalistic stage all dark and their black clothes paying homage to the Black album. The stunning arrangement with all the harmonies, so different and still so true to the original. The exceptional beatboxing. The stroke of genius to do the iconic guitar solo with the violin(l call it 'Death by VioLayne'🤪) And of course Geoffs voice! This rendition is still one of my favourite VP songs and for me it is on par with the original.
@JennReacts That "burp" you heard was Layne. He's the guy who played the violin. He's VoicePlay's Vocal Percussionist so he was also providing the "drum kit" you heard. I think it's produced using some beatboxing technique.
Thanks for your reaction! That sound that you were trying to figure out was an inhaled note from beatboxer, Layne. Layne has been playing violin since he was 4 years old but has only brought out the violin 3 times in his covers with Voice Play. We call him "Violayne" when he treats us to his violin playing. He is able to beatbox while playing the violin (you would love Voice Play's "Warriors" for more of Layne's violin playing while beatboxing). Legendary band, 'Chicago', saw this cover, reached out to Voice Play, and Voice Play sang two concerts with 'Chicago' last November. Yes, their arrangements done mostly by Geoff and Layne are exquisite ( Eli has done a few of their arrangements as well). Recently, Voice Play's "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Hellfire" were submitted for consideration for Grammy award nominations for Best Arrangement Instrumental Or Acapella category and "The Way You Make Me Feel" also for Best R&B Performance. We are very excited that they are getting recognition despite being independent by choice and not having a record label or contract. For something very different and stunning from Voice Play keep an eye out for their new one which should be released to the public on You Tube very soon. I won't say very much about it now but their new cover is definitely Grammy worthy in my opinion!
2025 Grammy nominations will be announced today...hoping that VoicePlay gets the recognition that they deserve. I agree about the new one coming out soon...it's great.
@@karenponchak5304 I wonder about that sound she was questioning when Layne is playing the violin though. It sounds similar to what Geoff was doing in his studio at the very end of their "Return to Sender" Loop video (in the outro)
This is still my favorite arrangement by Geoff. 🥰 And yeah, "VioLayne" 🎻... Some dislike, from the "a capella" perspective, to use an instrument , even for a solo. VP tried out versions with singing/humming it, etc. and they finally decided to take the violin, because it's the best choice for the overall impression and the whole sound of the song. I like the surprise.
i love that when VoicePlay uses "VioLayne", it's done as an extra voice, not as an accompaniment, which is how instruments should be used in a capella music.
@MtheHell And this is why I dislike "purists." It's not they're using full-on instrumentals and claiming that it's A Capella. I will always side with "what sounds right" over "what is technically correct." Also, it's not like they actually took out the vocal version of the solo. If you listen closely and watch them in the video, you'll notice that the vocal version is still being sung as background/harmonizing vocals for VioLayne. Some people complain just to complain...
Voiceplay always pays homage to the original but they always make it their own. Any weird sound will be Layne, on a separate track for this one. He's been playing violin since he was four years old. They create a karaoke track for their patrons, that's what they've been using for their outro for some time. No melody, only the harmony and beatboxing.
On the noise with the camera shake during Layne's violin solo: a good rule of thumb is that if you hear a noise that doesn't sound like it could be produced by a human voice, odds are very high that it's Layne producing it! In this case, since the beatboxing didn't stop while Layne was playing the violin, you can be pretty sure that they were multi-tracking at least his part, and Layne has no real problem with making a vocal noise (or getting one of the other guys to do that) and then processing it after the fact to get exactly the sound he wants. While this was a Geoff arrangement, I think Layne has a lot of freedom in producing his drum/beatbox tracks, and so that might have been a surprise for Geoff as well the first time he heard it!
He Jenn this was nice...if your liking that, your gone like Pantatonix - Hallelujah ( official video ) its a accapella group of 5...the have releast 460 video's ( covers ) 20,3 mln abonnees. Thanks for the nice reaction. See you 😊❤

@@JennReacts Yes, Pentatonix has a difficult contract with SME and copyright strikes and blocks are a problem with them (Voice Play is completely independent of record label or contract and easier to react to on You Tube). @ForeverDegenerate the origin of a capella music did actually have at least one instrument for accompaniment, so, technically.....
Enjoy seeing the oscillation of the song in real time.
