I love how Brian Blessed starts off rather calm, and quickly ends up more and more insane. Even better is how the more insane he gets, they give him deadlier weapons. He's homestly one of the coolest guys around, I can't get enough of him!
One of the guys playing a legionary works at Leeds Royal Armoury (brilliant museum, go if you ever get the chance). Taught me how to use a Medieval bastard sword. Great guy
I remember the day's filming, good fun, but left with a tyre puncture on my car. They say never meet your legends, but Brian Blessed must be the exception, everything you hope for and more :)
what are your specs? Im running a i7 4790K @4.4GHz, 16GB ddr3 1600, GTX 970 w/ 4GB GDDR5 VRAM with full settings, and mine looks just like it lol. All the coverage in commercials is done with an uber machine. Juyst expect to pay about 1500 USD to make the game look that good and run that well
I got ya - yeah when i first played the game on an older rig I wanted a refund for the game...I really do think CA is a good company, despite what a lot of people say
Mmmm, they are in the business to make money period. Whether that makes them bad or good idk, I am sure there are some people there who genuinely love making great video games but I think Sega is causing most of the problems. They seem to have taken creative assemblies "creative" license and handed them a streamlined "do it this way or else" license. The game is very arcade like, the graphical polish on ultra and extreme almost make up for it.
The footage doesn't make by the game engine you play, it made on something like movie engine, which render only the scene, so they can make it look more beautiful, with better model and textures.
Because majority of young man these days have problem with testosterone level and he does not. And young girls spend all day making themselves beautiful, trying at least.
So this exhaustive "research" about ancient artillery is the reason why ballistas in the game are rapid-fire killing machines with precision guided munitions? Well done, CA, well done ...
More like a watermelon or a pumpkin. Shoot one with an ordinary slingshot and a lead round ball of .50 cal, and you'll get the idea. Those ancient slings were deadly and accurate, launching lead pills of up to 1500 grains weight. Slam you right off a horse and dead before you hit the ground, or rip off your face, hitting the guy next to you as well.
I feel like Brian Blessed would have had a lot of fun on a real ancient battlefield, i can see him with that evil laugh as he smashes the heads of his enemies and blood on his face while still laughing like that
Regardless of the hokey nature of the video, I can't help but enjoy it. Brian is as always so enthusiastic and it seems like the whole team had a lot of fun playing with the weaponry.
@@leonfinnen5051 slings were something like situational weapons for legionaries (or last resort, depended really on circumstances,) not the one they were using always gladius, pilum and scutum. For example they had daggers all the time and loved them but main weapons were gladius and pilum.
The problem is purely programming right? I mean, there weren't huge historically incorrect things, or bad gameplay, just... a mafunction of an otherwise good system? I heard a lot of bad critic about the game, so I didn't get it yet.
Well, the AI was bad, unit models looked odd (alien faces ect) Sparta was grossly underpowered, horrible unit cards, clunky UI, family trees were missing, the way hoplites held their shields was not by just a handle but forearm strap and handle, some pretty horrible siege AI for both attackers and defenders, wrong height siege equipment for the walls it was attacking, suicidal generals charges, weak general bodyguard units for most cavalry bodyguards (legatus mainly) broken formations (testuedo, phalanx and shieldwall were useless at launch) no bonuses for holding the high ground at the start, no guard mode and unit AI blobbing. The list was huge but a lot of these points have been fixed now since the release of patch 15 and the game is now fun to play for th first time ever.
I can really see the effect of how we glorify battle. Sometimes I will watch something like this or hear some brilliant story about a battle and the strategies used and all that the soldiers went through and I shed tears, not the empathetic kind but the kind when I see splendour. Anybody else get this?

So many people whining about the game. Just shut up and enjoy it! I have had so much fun with this game because, although I know it has an array of problems, I just play it. The lack of armor on the left foot and shin always made me uncomfortable about Legionaires gear, it feels like a huge hole in their entire tactic, lucky for them most of their enemies didn't realize the advantage that could have been taken of that.
probably they did, soldiers probably improvised and put their own gold into improving the gear they already were handed out. just like modern soldiers do. American soldiers added all kinda stuff to their humvees, look at the shermans in ww2. wooden logs strapped to the sides of the tanks, and sandbags piled on top of the front armor. Anything to give and edge was useful. I dont think soldiers thinking has changed much in that regard.

Some things never change
huh

Cool. Do you mean he showed you the basics one day you were at the museum, or he was teaching a course?
rivolinho Just the absolute basics. The proper way to hold it and a few techniques from Talhoffer's manuscript. I don't claim to be a master swordsman
Fake Name Nice. Always wanted to try something like that. Will try to swing by when Im next in Leeds!
The trick was to stick em with the points end right?
Brian is getting blood thirsty

Ardisson S I agree even after 6
Brian, you magical, magical man
They should make Brian a general, beast out his stats and give his legionaries a sling each, lol

No. International.

That was exactly your point...

Probably some hairy Gauls being salty that they're the targets.
Actually, we are the barbarians, since our ancestors invaded and destroyed Roman Empire =))
Roman Empire used to pay tribute to Russia, and never in history advanced in that direction. Slavs ran circles around Romans in all aspects.
Gaul, is the present france, germany and spain. Romans are Latins and has brown skins some are white skins.

sadly, I had to give your comment a thumbs up...
