Melissa, I am just coming out from an eight year long nightmare, in which I became disabled with a spinal cord injury, lost my ability to work or live any sort of life. Standing, walking and sitting are all so painful, it’s taken every bit of joy or hope away from me. I’ve gone through it all alone, as I’m single and my family all live a couple of hours away. I’m only now, after psychological treatment for complex PTSD, realising how depressed I’ve been. But my psychologist thinks she can help to dial down my pain and if that happens, I really want to do your course to become a stylist. Just the thought of it has given me so much hope for the future! I don’t know when I’ll do it, but I know I definitely will and I’m so excited about it!!! ❤
Oh I’m so sorry to hear of your traumas, a good friend of ours fell down the stairs and could no longer walk so I know first hand how unimaginable tough that is. I hope to see you on our course at some point x
Well done that you have been through so much and still fighting to pull together a new life for yourself. My spine collapsed in my 40s (I broke it as a kid from a fall from horse, but swelling went down and bone healed, but degenerative changes, years of hard work as a nurse when I grew up and finished school has made my spine very problematic and pain all day everyday) I saw 3 specialists who just said I'd have to go on disability pension, but I retrained myself and did social work for 16yrs, and recently retired at 60, as my back became too painful to sit at desk with computer no matter what I did... but determination is really important to get on with life...good on you, I hope you are successful 😊❤
@ Wow. Well done! It’s definitely so important to have the right mental attitude. A year ago, I had completely given up on life. I rarely left my apartment, which meant I rarely saw or spoke to another human. I had more or less stopped washing, as there didn’t seem much point, and I totally believed that this was going to be my life forevermore. My biggest hope was that I’d become terminally ill, so I could quietly go. Now after 5 months working with my psychologist, I can’t believe that was me! This all started when I was only 40 and I jokingly warn everyone not to turn 40, as it’s a trap! Now, I’m 48 and I’m busy planning what I’m going to do when my pain is more under control. It’s nothing short of a miracle to me. Thank you for your lovely words of encouragement, to those who’ve commented. xx
I've been following you for a while and trying to use your styling tips in real life. Today I dressed from head to toe even though I was just working from home. I had to run an errand and I was so excited that someone complimented me on my outfit and said that I looked put together.
Love your do’s and don’t s video. Brilliant as always and spot on as a formal student of the Style Academy . If anyone is considering her courses, don’t hesitate! I have a new and wonderful career as a stylist. I’m living my best life!
I wish I could sleep like Monty!! 😆 While I find all of your videos to be very valuable, this video with you explaining "why" the looks don't work is so great! Sometimes we know something isn't right but . . . what is it?? This is so helpful! (By the way . . . I think you should have a photo take of Monty and you while you are wearing the fluffy coat. Twins!! 😘)
I’m about to turn 50. Two children and weight loss mixed with bad skin left me with a hanging apron belly. I got myself a tummy tuck just a couple months before my birthday and im only 3 weeks post op. I can’t wait to find out what my body will look like. I think I may need to get one of your zoom consultations to help me figure out a new wardrobe! You are so amazing at what you do! ❤
We’d absolutely love to help you. If you visit www.mmpersonalstyling.co.uk you’ll see all of the details. We also do gift vouchers if you wanted to hint to someone for Christmas!!
Great video as usual, my wardrobe has been steadily improving over the past 2 years and I ALWAYS have something to wear now that’s comfortable and stylish, thanks to your great advice!
Thank you Melissa for another stand out master class. I'm on a weight loss journey after some ill health and your videos have helped me enormously to understand my own body shape and start to develop my own style which has been sadly lacking for years! I am short and love any tips for dressing petite statue as it can be tricky trying to get the right proportions!
I appreciate the value options. You can choose where you want to spend money while also trying out new styles. My weight fluctuates a bit so I don't love spending money on clothing that it is important to have a perfect fit.
Thank you for the do’s and don’t content. I found the blouse and jeans and jumper skirt thing very useful. Also the footwear part was very enlightening. All my footwear is black so I’m definitely going wrong there. Thanks again Melissa 😊
Thank you for all your hard work and advice! I look forward to your Sunday videos every week. I echo the request for a petite hour glass video! Thank you for being amazing!!!
At last I can see where Ive been going wrong with my skirts! Ive got quite a few but never wear them because they felt sooo frumpy the way I wanted to wear them, Im going to try your idea with boots and a relaxed jumper, thankyou so much xx
Pulled through a hedge backward, 😂, Melissa, I love your way with words. That’s how I feel when I go shopping for clothes, but never put in those words. ❤ from Iowa
Thank you again, Melissa, for another great video. I really liked the do/don’t examples & seeing all the boots with the same outfits. A really useful way to illustrate the differences, thank you.I’ve learnt so much watching your videos over the last couple of years & they have really helped me move from a more formal wardrobe to having one more suited to my lifestyle with lots of stylish options. Work in progress still, but loving the journey! Thank you
Good to see you showing old-fashioned combos! I find Im wearing fewer shirts and blouses, and more jumpers nowadays. As well as your influence, I think it's the fact I dont need to iron jumpers 👍😂 Also, I'm so used to seeing you in lighter, flattering tones, some of the black items looked so dowdy on you!
Firstly thank you for your efforts. Last Friday I found myself thinking “the round toed shoes will not go well with these wide legged trousers” as I was sorting an outfit for a party. I still tried them on, and you were right, the pointy toed shoes looked so much better. I even used those ‘arm bands’ to show a bit of skin. 😊
Thanks dear Melissa for this Do and Don’t video. It is crazy how a wrong type of shoe or top can make the style so old fashioned and yet a simplest change can rectify that. But still I can find myself going for the wrong thing because my basics are not yet there, specially when it comes to shoes 😬 but so enjoy these do and don’t videos . And love having Monty in the background, he is so handsome and sweet 🥰🥰
Useful tips, especially those about the skirt. I just got a satin skirt and thought to pair it with a blouse but now I see a jumper is better. Thank you. (BTW, it's Dos and Don'ts 🙂)
Love seeing Monty! Any time in your videos. I never thought about the boot height and sweater length. Love that tip also with the slippers wearing the sweater longer. Love learning new ways to style outfits! You have great taste in jewelry as well! Thank you!😃
I absolutely love the barrel jeans! I bought black ones after watching one of your videos, I’ve been styling them up as you advised and I feel soooo fashionable right now!! I’ve now ordered them in blue! Been wearing a pointed flat and also a sling back kitten heel! Love love love!!
11:16 I had to pause the video to come and say - I love how deeply you love darling Monty.... Just look at that sweet boy with his head on that woolly ball. 😭😭😭 Oh my heart. 🥰🥰🥰
Fabulously helpful as always, love all the suggestions ! Thank you Mellisa 🙏 What a good caring mum you are to Monty I miss my old lab, Lilly who was well spoiled when she became a old girl ❤ xx
I wear the legging ,boots, sweater , vest combination all the time when I’m up in the mountains. I love the way you put that together. I live in the winter time in the desert and today it was 80° so I’m a little upset that I can’t wear any of my sweaters.
I’d love some more ideas on boot leg jeans as they are the best fit for me at the moment. I’m always cold so wear a lot of thick jumpers. I do attempt to turn it under and tuck it in my base layer. I’m wearing this type of outfit most days now. I have some super boots in saddle with a semi pointed toe that are the perfect length I find. Helpful video and I loved seeing Monty asleep on his cushion. 😊
Absolutely loved this video! The wealth of information is invaluable to styling ourselves. I have 2 questions. 1) when would you want to wear a black shoe? 2) how do you choose the right clothes on the hanger? Or how do you sift through all the clothes in a store to find the right ones to try on. Would love to see a video of you picking out the clothes and your thoughts as you do it. Thanks!
I do wear black boots but never with exactly the same depth of black. Instead I’d wear a black boots with a grey washed jean and only if I then had another piece of black on me to pull the two items together. As for your second question- that depends on what you need. Go with a plan, a gap in your wardrobe and only look for that piece. Or, if you’re looking for an outfit make sure everything you buy goes together so try it all on together in the changing room.
Melissa, thank you so much for all your advice! I look forward to watching your new videos every Sunday. You have no idea how many times I have forwarded your videos to friends ❤ I especially lov3d the part 1 & 2 how to build a capsule wardrobe. Also all the does and dont's videos. Shoes are so tricky and I will not be wearing black boots with dark boot leg jeans that's for sure😂
Hi Melissa😊 Du you always wear you’re jackets/coats open? It sure looks more flattering, but if I could wear a jacket open, I almost wouldn’t need a jacket. Many I have to twist my brain around and not always be so practical,(easier with less layers) but instead think thinner but more layers ☺️ You look so stylish no matter the occasion! I really want to try to achieve that! Marit 🇳🇴
You look so cute with the ear miff 🤣 - I snatched the RI trousers as it's very rare to find a waist the way you describe and yes it will be flattering for any shape. I like that the material is also fluid which is more flattetign to a curvy petite and they have a petite lenght version. Thank you.
Hey Melissa. I have learned a lot from you and I love your style. What advice would you give to someone who can't wear pointy toe shoes? I feel like every outfit pops with pointy toe shoes and that isn't something I can do. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I think this the my downfall of every outfit I wear. Thanks in advance!❤
I'd wear as close to a pointed as you can get so somewhere in between a square and an almond toe. Here's an example of what I mean...www.next.co.uk/style/su510938/am3288#am3288
Love your videos. Is the couse 20% off still in effect? Would like your help! And Monty's! I have three Rhodesian Ridgebacks and tend to wear their colors!
I’m not sure that discount code is but if you email hello@mmstylingacademy.co.uk and tell them you watch our TH-cam videos I’m sure they can find you some sort of discount xx
Thank you for including the bit about the skirt. Could you please make a video only on skirts for everyday looks? I only wear skirts and dresses for modesty reasons and it’s so hard to figure out more casual looks as well as more fashion forward looks (without compromising religious modesty). Thank you! Love your videos!
It’s too niche I’m afraid but we have a lot of clients with your needs and we help them in a 1:1 basis so please do get in touch via our website as we’d love to help you www.mmpersonalstyling.co.uk
Melissa, So glad to see this video today. Thanks for taking the time to do this for us. What do you think of the silicone shoulder pads that can be used when not wearing a bra with straps? For example, when wearing the uniglo heatech T that has the bra attached to the lining.
I love that idea. I haven't ever used the silicone ones but I hear they're good. Just make sure they're not too rounded - you want angles on the shoulder pads so a nice clean straight line. x
A thing that comes up for me repeatedly in your "winter" videos is: yes, opening the coats and jackets to show the light layer underneath definitely makes the outfit look MUCH better. However, I find it quite impractical in the winter as I get very cold where I live with the coat open like that. Plus I feel like I lose any shape and start looking very barrel-like. Any suggestions on how to still achieve a nice look with the coat closed? Thank you. BTW, I am addicted to your videos. THANK you for doing them.
If you feel barrel like when your coat is done up then I’d suggest buying a different style of coat, probably one with more structure, no drop shoulders, maybe a waist tie if that works for you. Then if your coat is done up you need to make sure your accessories and shoes are colour coordinated. All of these things need to be looked at together and not in isolation. Hope that helps x
I am still doing as you say, because everything you say works on me. My only problem is that I can't walk around with an open winter coat in Finland. I am 160 cm tall end up looking like a walking hotdog 😂 Please give shopping tips for us EU-people. Buying from UK and US is too expensive because I have to pay Finnish VAT 25,5% on top of everything.
In this Sundays video I show you how to wear a big winter coat - done up - and still maintain your style and the coat I use is from a European shop, hope that helps!
Great tips, thank you, and you still look amazing at 5am!😅 My legs are really short, I have to wear petite bottoms even though I'm not petite in height so it makes dressing/balancing my bottom half really difficult. Do you have any videos that might be able to help please? Xx
Yes, have a look at any with Antonia in (our brand manager). We have to re proportion her figure all of the time. Here’s one link for you th-cam.com/video/vrIjyfj9NVg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JJwnIeLvlg3g0FN3
I was wondering if you can recommend any nice earrings that are suitable for people (me) with non-pierced ears? The only ones i find are either very old fashioned clip-ons or designed for 5 year olds. Fantastic video yet again 👍
Great video - thanks Melissa! However I can never find the links to items. I've tried the LTK site too. Where do I look? Specifically the wide velvet trousers and black wide trousers. I know it's probably obvious but just can't find them!
Have a look where the title is on the video. Next to this you’ll either see the word ‘more’ or sometimes (depending on your device) you might see 3 dots. Click either and it will reveal the description box. The links are the first things you’ll see.
Thank you. I have two different (but very similar) tools (one in the studio, one in my house) but they both produce the same waves. So I use the GHD curler 42mm barrel and the babylis cordless curler. The key is not to curl it to the ends. I have done a video before showing how I do this. X
Very helpful video. Do you ever sleep Melissa? 😅 One question though. You wore your taupe boots with black jeans. I always thought you should wear black boots with black jeans/trousers to make your legs look longer. Am confused 🤔
No, I rarely wear black jeans and black shoes, I might wear grey washed jeans with black boots but that’s about it. Whilst technically they can make your legs look longer, you often lose the stylish look and therefore overall the outfit doesn’t look as good.
Hi Muriel, long time watching, first time writing: it's gold what you are telling us every time! I also have a question for my teenage girl 😂 Would you do one styling session for 15 year olds? My one refuses everything that would show skin (not a problem in my opinion), but in the process she's also makes herself look like she's been living under a bridge. Or is that the new look now between teenagers?😅 I'd like to help her to give her options so that she could go to a Christmas party for instance with grandma's around who would not get scared of her style choices 😅 So, things that would make her feel confident, without being revealing. Of course, I know the drill: it's a phase, it'll pass. But I'd like to know if you or someone else is giving advice for young girls (who are also have the knowledge and experience). One tall order, I realise it now. Anyhow, thank you for all the videos, I frequently rewatch and think about them. Happy holidays everyone!
Hello. Sorry for the delay in coming back to you. I had some time off over Christmas then I slipped two discs in my back! Anyway, I have a 16 year old daughter so yes, we style younger girls to but if they’re under 18 you’d just also need to be present. All the details can be found at www.mmpersonalstyling.co.uk. Thank you!
Hi Melissa. As always a great video and looking stunning. At about 17:11 you are wearing a gorgeous blouse. The bra that you are wearing is that the one from M&S that you have mentioned in the past?😘
Hello M, Just watched your basic capsule winter video when you said it was important to have cream or white/off white sweaters to break up the darker outfit, so any jacket can go over any top. So am confused by your black top? X Jackie
Love the video but I do wonder why the dark shoes didn’t go with the jeans and jumper but did go with the cropped jeans and basic top? 🙈 is it because the jumper wasn’t basic?
I was about to buy the varley half zip jumper but it says dry clean on the website. Was just wondering if you’ve machine washed it and how it came out?
It is crazy that there is such a big difference in the 2 brown boots, where one makes your leg look slimmer🤯 You can also look like you a clown in some shoes when you wear 9,5 size and 10 in sneakers and boots😅😂 I had that happen not once and not twice😅
Don't ever apologize for Monty being in the video. I absolutely love seeing him, as I'm sure do many other viewers x
Definitely! Monty is just gorgeous! Aren’t dogs wonderful!🐶🐶🐶
Melissa, I am just coming out from an eight year long nightmare, in which I became disabled with a spinal cord injury, lost my ability to work or live any sort of life. Well done that you have been through so much and still fighting to pull together a new life for yourself. Your videos are such a treat! Please don't apologise for Monty, we all love him! 🥰
Thank you so much!

I love whenever Monte is in the video!
Love your do’s and don’t s video. Brilliant as always and spot on as a formal student of the Style Academy . If anyone is considering her courses, don’t hesitate! I have a new and wonderful career as a stylist. I’m living my best life!
Thank you so much. So pleased you’re loving your new career 😊
I love the level of detail you put in all the looks. Now many things have more sense for my body and style and why some things don´t work on me. TYSM

Love that!
We love Monty. Soooo sweet. Just too early to be active.

Great video as usual. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to include us youtube followers 😊
You are so welcome! 🤗
Hahaha Monty looks absolutely dead throughout the video! 😂 You can see him thinking “What is she doing waking me up at this time of the morning?” 🤣 🐕
You’re so right!
I love your videos as they are instructive vs. just showing a haul of clothes. ❤
Glad you like them!

Wow, thank you! 🤩
Love the dog too!
Would love more videos like this!! And more accessory /jewellery videos please ❤
We’ve got some more jewellery coming in next weeks video
Firstly thank you for your efforts.

Thank you so much!
Melissa Thank you so much for the beautiful videos. What is the best jeans for an apple shape.
A wide leg, boot leg or straight cropped ankle grazer. Avoid the skinnies at all cost as they will make your tummy look bigger.
Fabulously helpful as always, love all the suggestions !
Thank you Mellisa 🙏
What a good caring mum you are to Monty
I miss my old lab, Lilly
who was well spoiled when she became a old girl ❤

Love the "what not to wear" video.

I'm 5 ft, 120 pds, with a large chest. I'm turning 41 soon, and your outfit ideas are great. Comfortable, warm, and stylish.
These videos are so helpful. Thank you so much for putting them together. They are so appreciated.

I love these do/ don’t videos, they really help Melissa! Merry Christmas ( or Happy Christmas as I think you would say☺️) 🇨🇦🎄❄️
Thank you! You too!
The long fur coat is giving Mob Wives vibes 😂
You just look so stylish in everything and that, a great advert for your brand. Monty for the win 🐕 ❤
Excellent video 👍👍 such helpful ideas and tips …please do do s and donts videos for all the seasons.
Thank you! Will do!
Melissa another great video… I love those what not to wear it looks… The point really hits home!
Love all the fashion tips and tricks. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
I make every mistake in the video, and I enjoy seeing how to style AND stay warm!
Love this video!!! Thanks so much! Great examples and advice! 😁
Glad it was helpful!

Great advice and inspiration as always. Love your videos. Happy Christmas 🥰
Thank you! You too!
You look so cute with the ear miff 🤣 - I snatched the RI trousers as it's very rare to find a waist the way you describe and yes it will be flattering for any shape. I like that the material is also fluid which is more flattetign to a curvy petite and they have a petite lenght version. Thank you.
Oh good and you’re very welcome x
Fab, Thanks Meliissa! I probably wouldn't watch your vlogs if Monty wasn't in them. 😉x
Wow! I didn’t even think that shoes could make such a difference!
Oh yes, they make a HUGE difference, as does jewellery x
Monty is adorable! ❤
He's a hairy beast but I love him!
Just make sure they're not too rounded - you want angles on the shoulder pads so a nice clean straight line. x
Monty sleeping in the background ❤ precious.
Incredibly helpful! Thank you, as always, for sharing your knowledge! ❤
You are so welcome!
Thank you for doing some lower price points to try without feeling too guilty ❤
Great tips, thank you, and you still look amazing at 5am!😅 My legs are really short, I have to wear petite bottoms even though I'm not petite in height so it makes dressing/balancing my bottom half really difficult. Do you have any videos that might be able to help please? Xx
Yes, have a look at any with Antonia in (our brand manager). We have to re proportion her figure all of the time. Here’s one link for you th-cam.com/video/vrIjyfj9NVg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JJwnIeLvlg3g0FN3
It's evening here. So nice to watch again! 🥰
The track suit with the faux fur coat was fabulous!
I would think this is also an example of high-low dressing, lol!
Absolutely!
Omg Melissa early start hun xx and long day too x sending enery to you xxx super video as always ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! x
I was wondering if you can recommend any nice earrings that are suitable for people (me) with non-pierced ears? The only ones i find are either very old fashioned clip-ons or designed for 5 year olds. Fantastic video yet again 👍
I’ve never looked for any clip ins I’m afraid, sorry.
Can I ask how you do your hair. do you use a wand or straighteners to curl it. It always looks lovely.
Thank you. I have two different (but very similar) tools (one in the studio, one in my house) but they both produce the same waves. So I use the GHD curler 42mm barrel and the babylis cordless curler. The key is not to curl it to the ends. I have done a video before showing how I do this. X
@@mmpersonalstyling Thank you that's great. I have just watched it, very helpful ☺
Very helpful video.
Do you ever sleep Melissa? 😅
One question though.
The brown kitten heel boots are fantastic!
Thank you!
Your nails are to die for.
Thank you!
Wonderful video! ❤❤
Brilliant, this is where i struggle so appreciate this a massive thank you. Can I ask if you have a larger stomach will tucking a blouse inside work?
Yes it works as long as the top is loose enough to create an upside down frown (see my ‘how to hide a larger stomach videos’.
@mmpersonalstyling going to try this thank you do much
Hi Melissa. As always a great video and looking stunning. At about 17:11 you are wearing a gorgeous blouse. The bra that you are wearing is that the one from M&S that you have mentioned in the past?😘
Yes it is the M&S bra - the full cup one, it’s great!
Look at the state of Monty. Completely zonked out...😂
Wow, 5am!! Do you ever sleep?! Thank you, useful.as always:-)
What about the thing about wearing light coloured tops for capsule wardrobe to work? X
This wasn’t a capsule wardrobe video, this was a do’s and dont’s video
Thank you
Hello M,
Just watched your basic capsule winter video when you said it was important to have cream or white/off white sweaters to break up the darker outfit, so any jacket can go over any top. So am confused by your black top? X Jackie
The black top was to show you how bad that looked compared to the lighter coloured top…
Love the video but I do wonder why the dark shoes didn’t go with the jeans and jumper but did go with the cropped jeans and basic top? 🙈 is it because the jumper wasn’t basic?
The dark shoes against a long jean doesn't work as there's not colour contrast and everything just looks duller...
@ thank you for explaining ❤️
I was about to buy the varley half zip jumper but it says dry clean on the website. Was just wondering if you’ve machine washed it and how it came out?
Yes, I wash it in the machine at least once if not twice a week!
It is crazy that there is such a big difference in the 2 brown boots, where one makes your leg look slimmer🤯
You can also look like you a clown in some shoes when you wear 9,5 size and 10 in sneakers and boots😅😂 I had that happen not once and not twice😅
A sweater is greater for dressing down skirts and trousers, but what can you pair w/them in the warmer months if you don’t suit t-shirts?
A vest top is always good 👍
So good!💖🚀💫✨💖
Glad you like it!
